Uuuuuugh, not another one of these basic sad YT suburb songs. This may be my least favorite breakout since Say Something.

Love this. It'll probably continue the streak of non-US Hot 100 #1s.

Doubt that "NO" will hit the top spot. This will be there for quite a while.

I like the song and I even like how he sings it but I don't like the basic lyrics and it doesn't really live up to multiple listens. Its success isn't surprising but it being a contender for #1 kind of is.

I'm nervous for this song. The more this song climbs, the more people seem to hate it. It's such a good song to :(

I like the song and I even like how he sings it but I don't like the basic lyrics and it doesn't really live up to multiple listens. Its success isn't surprising but it being a contender for #1 kind of is. Well, for me, the underlying message is what makes up for it: Life is short. Make the most of it and don't waste or wish any of it away. Realize your talents, never waste away opportunities you earn. Even if it doesn't seem like it now or in your recent past, your life is worth living. For those of you who don't know, my favorite song of all time based off a message alone is Harry Chapin's "Cats in the Cradle." Compared to this, it has a similar message for fathers: Spend legitimate time with your children, don't ignore them. That's exactly what my father did, and sadly, I know a lot of boys my age in which their fathers didn't spend much time with them throughout their life. Some of them would go on to make bad choices too. Going back to this, the opening and closing line of "7 Years" really hurts me deep because growing up throughout my life, no matter how hard I tried, I never made any true friends, just a few good acquaintances over the years who I now rarely see or keep in touch with. To me, this is one of the deepest songs I've ever listened to and it's why I love it: because of the message. Of course, you are all entitled to your own opinions, but I just wanted to share my take on this song.

The lyrics are way better than most of the songs in the pop chart (i know it's not that difficult given how incredibly bad some lyrics are, even in decent songs).
And i like the song more and more. It started to get airplay here a little before it did in the USA, at first i didn't like it that much, but the more i listen the more i like.
And i think it's quite easy to understand why this song is so popular, musically is very pleasant (and even a little epic) and the lyrics are easy to connect for a lot of people, maybe not for teens, but contrary of what some labels seems to thing, teens are not the only audience possible.
And by the way, i love Cats in the cradle too

It's funny, I was actually coming here to post in this thread today before I saw that I had a notification that I was SHOCKED (but HAPPY) it was doing so great on iTunes (#1).
Not sure what the rude ass LMFAO comment is for. Even in my original post quoted, I never said I didn' like the song, it just didn't seem like something that would take off, but I am glad it did. It's refreshing and different. So fuck off LMFAO

Using your other example, Cats In The Cradle, that has fantastic lyrics. I said I like the song well enough, but the overdefensiveness toward it (not necessarily you JL44TM) is a little strange. Some ya'll need to relax.

This song is strange. I can't decide if I like it or hate it yet. Right now this is giving me "Let Her Go" by Passenger vibes in terms of the song and its oddly-voiced singer, but I definitely enjoyed LHG a lot more.
