I wasn't aware of an adds date, but the song is at #35 with a +52 bullet and has received 3 adds this week (according to Mediabase). This could be top 30 shortly.

Maybe I need to listen to it more, but this doesn't strike me as AC material. But then again, if a song like Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" can be, then I guess "Say It Right" can too.

The thing with "Say It Right" is that without Timbaland's upbeat instrumental, it really would sound like a ballad. Take away the instrumental, and Nelly's acapella would make "Say It Right" a slow ballad. So I say it fits... definitely more than "Hips Don't Lie" which I see top 30.

I am still shocked that HDL managed to get some AC play.

I knew "Say it Right" would cross over to AC sooner or later. It certainly has more AC-appeal than a song like Daughtry's "It's Not Over", which has more of a hard-rock feel. "It's Not Over" is rapidly moving up the AC chart, and holding at #1 on the Hot AC chart.
Also, as of lately, the top 3 songs at Hot AC always cross over to the Top 30 on the AC chart - very slowly, but surely.

Does Billboard's AC chart go by spins or impressions? Because Say It Right is top 20 in impressions for the first time. It had a Billboard peak of #22. I was wondering if it reach a new peak now.

Aw, oh well. Now she's up to #21 in spins, so hopefully she can hold that until Sunday and achieve a new peak. It's weird how she's finally picking up spins now. She's been sitting in the 20s for almost three months now.

"Sweet Escape" is the exception; but how many regular AC stations spun "Rich Girl", "Hollaback Girl", or "South Side"? Even "Cool" struggled to get the attention it deserved on this format. As for Justin, he still has yet to crack the top 30 as a solo artist away from *Nsync.

I can't believe how well The Sweet Escape is doing. It seems way to upbeat for AC. Hopefully, 4ITM will have similar success. Where did Cool peak?

This song enters the AC year-to-date top 50, at #50, for the first time this week. Not bad, considering this only graced the top 20 for a little while. Talk about a sleeper hit! (But I guess on AC, every song is a sleeper hit.)

(But I guess on AC, every song is a sleeper hit.) What's your definition of a sleeper hit? Its AC chart performance is rather stagnant, but the song itself is upbeat and excellent. It's still on my personal top 10 chart after 21 weeks, and I still haven't burned out on yet quite yet. Best song Furtado has ever done, and my #1 favorite song of '07 so far.

A sleeper hit is a song that quiet success (meaning a low or insignificant peak) that has such amazing longevity that its overall success rivals that of more noticeable hits (top 10, top 5, #1, etc).
My favorite example of a sleeper hit is How To Save a Life on the United World Chart. It has been charting for 43 weeks so far, never hit the top 10, peaked at #15 for 7 nonconsecutive weeks (which is pretty strange), and yet it is currently the 13th most successful song on the chart this year.
But, it's somewhat ironic to call Say It Right a sleeper hit on this chart because, well, the AC chart moves so darn slowly! Say It Right has been sitting between positions 20 and 30 since March (four months so far). It randomly loses and regains its bullet. But most of the songs around it have had similar patterns.
For a song with such a low peak to make the top 50 most played songs of the year would not mean much for the AC chart, but if that happened on the pop or rhythmic chart, that would be pretty amazing.
