"Needed Me" has potential on urban. "Never Ending", "Consideration", "Kiss It Better" (where is the hook?), "Love on the Brain"? No no no no. They're either not strong enough, or not radio-friendly enough. I can see Never Ending smashing. People said Stay would not be a hit but look what happened there.

It might be another #1 for her in the US but globally the song is struggling, which is a first for Rihanna. I really hope she doesn't lose her global power, it's been stunning to watch over the last 10 years. Did "What's My Name" do well fer her internationally? Not that it was the lead single from "Loud" but, it's kind of similar to "Work" more than a lot of her other lead singles. It did ok. Went #1 in the UK after she performed it on X-Factor. I agree with the comment of this being an "American" album. I don't really hear any international smashes aside from possibly LOTB or Never Ending.

Why has this gone from #9 to #2 in the past 24 hours? It's pretty much always been #2 with its combined versions, and now the single version was deleted.

I always suspected the US understood the essence of Rihanna more than other countries. She may sell more and chart higher elsewhere, but it's the pop smashes that they really like. ANTI sounds like a very American album, same thing happened with LDR and Ultraviolence after the success of Born to Die. It's very easy to understand, there's no tradition of urban sounds in other countries (with the exception of UK). Very popular hip hop and rap artist are almost unknown in Europe (with some exceptions). Anyway i doubt Work will go further than 45S which was a polarized song that didn't pave the path for the reception of her following songs but it ended being a hit by itself, with a high peak and a long chart run. I expect this to go further on the hot 100 than on the pop chart. Anyway, she is going to need more than one top 10 hit if the album sales continue to be so low. Of course even the greatest and biggest have their lows in a long career. It's easy to forget because she is very young but she had a decade of hits behind her

Not really, it underperformed in most of Europe. In Spain and Portugal it barely got airplay. Only girl was the single, and it was a success. S&M was the other hit of that album. Anyway, What's my name is a way better song that Work. Work is only getting more attention here because it's the first Rihanna's single in a long time (since 45S, i never heard Bitch better have my money or American Oxigen here) and the reactions were mixed and that being generous (i think if it was a song from a less known singer it will probably be vanished from airplay by now)

This really needs a youtube video it could go #1 on billboard. That fake video Work had 11 million views before it was taken down. if Zayn went #1 she can too.

Rihanna's entire career she's had a mixture of hits and flops in every country, US or non-US it's been like this. There is not one single country in the world where she's never flopped. Not one. She had a flop in many countries back in 2005 and she's still here today in 2016.

With the video and Grammy performance, this is going to be a contender for #1. It's already a sliver away from #1 on iTunes when you combine all the versions and has topped Spotify in the US & UK, as well as France. She won't be the only one for certain, but at the very worst this is still going top 3 at least.

I say the video the Friday after the Grammys WITHOUT exclusively being on TIDAL. Just have it stream simultaneously there and on Vevo like the BTS video a couple days ago.

Timing is of the essence right now with this; it's slaying on iTunes and on Spotify and she has the Grammys coming up. They better not release the video in like April or something! >:(

When you have a long career it's obvious it will be highs and lows, but nobody recovers faster of a big flop with an smash hit than Rihanna

Is she even singing "Work" on The Grammy's? She should at least do a part of it since it's her current single (a lot of people would like her to perform a medley; Work could be in there), but nobody knows at this point.

As bad as I think this is, I'd still love to see her get that 14th #1! Gut is telling me her team 'may' finally returning to classic form. Song is def. picking up on US iTunes (as others said not doing much w.w.). There's very little competition for now so they obviously waited until the best possible time to do what they're doing. I think it's def. possible (once the video drops) and airplay is in/around its peak for this to squeak at least week at #1. My House is def. red hot now but I don't think it's strong enough to hold off Rihanna if the video is super on point and if they add a tweaked up/improved new radio mix would only help. Imo the worst thing about the song are the lazy, congested and repetitive vocals (seems to be the #1 complain people have).

I'm calling this to be #1 on hot 100 for about a month. With the Grammy performance on the way& the video coming out within the next week or so, it's impossible for it not to

Adele is also performing (I believe). No doubt they're gonna start pushing WWWY. I may be in the minority but I'm just not feeling it or hearing this 'smash' others are. Hello positively was a pic. perfect first single. Everything about it was on point (the song, video, timing etc..). WWWY def. sounds like a top 10 but not #1. Very bland and nothing really that stands out. i just feel like its Rihanna's time again for another #1 song. Again, absolutely not one of her best lol but I think streaming, video views and just enough sales/airplay will do it.

I think this is second tier Rihanna song status. It's obviously not going to be We Found Love or even Diamonds, but it's not Hard or Cheers either. It'll sit next to S&M, Take A Bow, Where Have You Been, ... it's ground she's covered before, but not a total retread either.
Rihanna's event song this "era" is Bitch Better Have My Money regardless of how it faired on top 40.

With the Grammy performance on the way& the video coming out within the next week or so, it's impossible for it not to She is not Adele or Sam Smith, a live performance has way less impact if you don't deliver a big performance. But not even a great vocalist will be able to give a memorable performance of a song like this one. The grammys will give a push to the sales, but i doubt it will be enough. If she gets that number one it will be due to streaming, so if she release a video that week she will have a shot at being number one
