She is not Adele or Sam Smith, a live performance has way less impact if you don't deliver a big performance. But not even a great vocalist will be able to give a memorable performance of a song like this one. The grammys will give a push to the sales, but i doubt it will be enough. If she gets that number one it will be due to streaming, so if she release a video that week she will have a shot at being number one You must've forgotten her 2013 Stay performance. Stay is a totally different song. It's not only way better than work, it's a song that it's perfect for Rihanna's voice, it's all in her range and let her shine and connect with the emotion. Work is catchy and that's all. She could try a flashy performance and sometimes that works too (Madonna's legendary performance of Vogue)

Love this but I can see why she would do Kiss It Better.

That's fantastic. I would love to see KIB get a big single push, even though I know nothing had been confirmed about the possibility of it even being a single yet.

It makes sense for her not to do work. It is pretty polarizing and a Grammy performance isn't going to change that. It might slightly spike for digital downloads but a Grammy performance of work would be a waste. The song is going to do what it will do. There is still the video to help. It is smart and her team knows it to do kiss it better for a mainstream audience.

Plus I can't see her standing on the stage singing "work work work wurowro work see me do my wokr work work work wwuwuwor work work work" for three minutes. It would be much better to KMB

I'm pleasantly surprised how well this song is doing so far. I was not expecting it to have the legs we've seen so far, but I do also think it's a grower. I like it a lot more now than when it first premiered.

People would still hate on Rihanna and call the song a flop if this made top 10.
Some people just need to accept that this song is smashing its way up to the top.

Thinking Out Loud did that last year& still didn't get #1 But it was number 2 for 8 long weeks (it only didn't reach number one because Uptown funk was the smash of this decade). Work didn't have the characteristics of a song that would benefit of a grammy performance, it's not flashy enough, it doesn't bring emotion to the stage or will get a brilliant performance, not even a combination of Madonna and Adele could make that song shine live. So performing other song is a good idea, it will get her a good test about the potential of the new song

45S was not a flop by any means (and Work doesn't look like one either), but i think both have some things in common, both were very divisive (not divisive in terms of pulsemusic, because everybody is bipolar with Rihanna's releases here) but divisive in general. And i think both won't get near to top on pop, and be more successful on the hot 100.
I think the problem with 45S (and probably with this too) is that everybody is expecting a We found love smash as lead song of every album, Diamonds ended growing on most people but 45S continued being divisive by the end of its chart run (45S would be way better without Kanye)

It all has to do with standards and expectations. When you are as successful as Rihanna has been, the expectations and standards for success are extremely high.Katy and possibly Taylor are the only two other pop girls who have these insane sometimes unreasonable expectations. Reminds me so much of Mariah in the 90s.

Rihanna pulled out of her Grammy performance apparently due to illness.

It happened with We found love, with Only girl and with Diamonds, but not with 45S

Rihanna's Drake-assisted "Work" enters the Hot 100's top five, rising 7-4 in its third week. The song is Rihanna's 20th top five Hot 100 hit, making her just the eighth artist to hit that milestone.
Here is an updated look at the acts with the most top five Hot 100 hits: 29, The Beatles 28, Madonna 26, Mariah Carey 24, Janet Jackson 21, Elvis Presley (whose career predated the Hot 100's 1958 launch by two years) 20, Michael Jackson 20, Rihanna 20, Stevie Wonder
(Among artists with the most Hot 100 top 10s, Rihanna ranks in a tie for fifth place.)
Partly powering the ascent of "Work," the song zooms 41-4 on Streaming Songs (15 million, up 222 percent) and 16-1 on the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart (13 million, up 209 percent, becoming her third No. 1 on the tally), with the track's arrival on Spotify, which accounts for 47 percent of its overall streams, heavily pushing its rise. "Work" also charges 20-13 on Radio Songs (63 million, up 23 percent), winning the Hot 100's top Streaming and Airplay Gainer awards. On Digital Songs, the single rises 3-2 (113,000, down 27 percent).
"Work" also leads the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for a second nonconsecutive week.

Amazing! And someone predicted "Work" would fall out out of the top 10! I think this will eventually peak @ #1.
