#9 as an official peak isn't that bad. Oh, bull. This becomes the biggest song in the country for multiple weeks, punctuated by consistently being one of the top sellers and the top-streamed song, and the best Pop radio will give it is #9? Really?

It also hasn't even reached 70 days on CHR yet. When was the last time a top 10 peaking song (top 10 on CHR, that is) died this quickly?

I haven't cared enough to look at the full lyrics just yet I decided to do it now, since I'd eventually do it at some point. Oh well, fuck Work when Kiss It Better & Needed Me are official singles now .....even if the vid for KIB was underwhelming.

Probably because it sucks. We disagree on that point, but even if we didn't, whether anyone thinks the song sucks or is the best thing out there (or even somewhere inbetween) is not a valid basis for judging a song's chart performance.

Really?Probably because it sucks. If it sucked, why did it smash without enormous pop support?? I think things like streaming, video views, and sales always tell the true story moreso than airplay. Befuddles me how a song like Hands To Myself is smashing on pop radio but has mediocre sales, streaming, and video views.

Because it fits pop radio much better. The audience isnt feeling it though, as evidenced by the songs numbers outside of Top 40 radio. The interesting thing is that Rude Boy and What's My Name are both similar genre-wise to Work, yet performed much better on pop. So I don't think it has anything to do with Work not fitting the format.

Yeah a #9 peak for a song this big is not a good showing on Pop, but on the whole, this is still going down a bigger hit overall than My House, Stressed Out, or Hands To Myself.
Video just crossed 200M views.

Video just crossed 200M views. Yea I'll give you that, but it won't be a bigger hit in the long run than Stressed Out. I think this won't get very good recurrent airplay at all once it's finished. It's too of the moment.

Eh, no I'd say this will still be considered a bigger hit in the end than Stressed Out. That's like saying that Wildest Dreams was a bigger hit than Hotline Bling (which this is sorta the spiritual successor to). There's a lot more than radio that goes into the scale of how big a song is considered.

The song wasn't really pop-friendly to begin with. It got as far as it did because of the artists involved.

This should have at the Least peaked too 5 on pop but hey what's 4 spots behind top 5 ? This will go down as one of the biggest hits of the year.

Because it fits pop radio much better. Based on...what? Based on it being a pop song tailored for pop radio. Work just "works" better on rhythmic/urban, its not very pop-friendly at all imo.

It also hasn't even reached 70 days on CHR yet. When was the last time a top 10 peaking song (top 10 on CHR, that is) died this quickly? I think the last time was "FourFiveSeconds," which peaked at #6 in 39 days and peaked in spins in 54 days. Before that, "The Hanging Tree" peaked at #10 in 44 days.

Still doing well but seems like Rihanna's dominance at top 40 radio (in which anything she releases goes top 3) is over for the time being until she goes back to releasing super catchy bops.

That was never the case though. If radio wasn't feeling one of her singles, they were never hesitant to let it flop. Every album has had at least one single miss the Top 5: Music Of The Sun: "If It's Lovin' That You Want" (#8) A Girl Like Me: "We Ride" (#32) "Break It Off" (#6) Good Girl Gone Bad: "Shut Up And Drive" (#11) "Rehab" (#17) Rated R: "Russian Roulette" (#21) "Hard" (#9) Loud: "California King Bed" (#19) "Cheers (Drink To That)" (#10) Talk That Talk: "You Da One" (#19) "Talk That Talk" (#24) "Birthday Cake" (#41) Unapologetic: "Pour It Up" (#40) "Right Now" (#15) "What Now" (#21) Last Year's R8 Singles: "FourFiveSeconds" (#6) "Bitch Better Have My Money" (#43) "American Oxygen" (#34) Anti: "Work" (#9) In fact, if you compare that to her songs that have made the Top 5, the "flops" win out 19-16.

Well at least it peaked at the same spot as Hard did, and Hard is one of my faveds so. Also, I only just realized that Shut Up And Drive & You Da One were never top ten :'(

I'm surprised "Shut Up & Drive" didn't have a higher peak on pop. It seemed like the type of middle-of-the-road radio single that would've done well there even without the sales to bolster it.
"Umbrella" not going to #1 there will also always be a surprising chart statistic.

You Da One was seriously such a waste of a single. Sorry, I know there's some people that like it, but after We Found Love it felt like such a buzzkill and the chart performance shows it.

They got greedy. Had they waited a few weeks more, a month at tops, it would've done far better. WFL was too strong. Same with Roar was too strong. Love Yourself is too strong now.

"work" is a lead single after the longest absence of her career.

And really Four Five Seconds was the first single and Work is more like the single #4. I know they're trying to pretend those three singles didn't exist, but let's be real.
