"Watch Me" just won't die. It looks like it will be repeating on the year end chart, even with the new recurrent rule in place. "See You Again" is also another stubborn one that refuses to move.

No chance WWWY will be around radio four months from now. Perhaps AC, but Pop and HAC will have moved to 3rd single by then easily. WWWY will get one big boost at Grammys, but radio may be dropping it by then - it's audience at Pop has stalled. Streaming services really should be in place by now for the single and if a concept video was in the works, I'd think we'd have heard some rumblings.

Those two One Direction songs (What Makes You Beautiful and Story of My Life) had good airplay that helped them to have longevity. I think they are really just seen as teen-centric act so they struggle to have bigger success outside their fanbase. Bieber now has successfully transitioned beyond the teenybopper/twitter-trending obsessed fanbase he has

Can I just say that I like the recent posts here about When Were Young/Adele 'issue' regardless if I agree with them or not as the discussion is generally sensible without the need to be catty/hostile with each other. I respectfully think you may be underestimating the machine behind Adele and the fact that the single is just starting to get properly worked within the last week.  While it may or may not smash on radio and be in heavy rotation 4 months from now, that doesn't mean it won't be big overall and/or be very much alive and active in other forms... like streaming and have a nice long chart life beyond radio.  16 weeks from now is nothing for a big hit that is promoted properly or has streaming appeal these days.  I respect your bold and finite thoughts here, but they seem rooted in what is the norm or successful for big acts, rather than what is still very possible for an artist with this rare kind of broad, mass appeal... and bonkers sales to provide $$ budget.  As for hearing rumblings about a video... we didn't hear rumblings about Hello.  It was kept under wraps until they were ready to tease it.  Who is to say WWWY wasn't possibly already filmed around the same time as Hello?  I lean on the side of thinking her team is really on top of their game given their track record, so until this single fails because they don't give it streaming and/or a video, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.  Radio would be ill-advised - in my opinion - to give up now, because if Columbia goes streaming and it hits big post-Grammys, radio has just lost out unless they were to reverse course.  Wise to stay in the game for a couple more weeks, no?

The fact that radio hasn't collectively put this in heavy/power rotation yet is potentially in WWWY's favor.  It's not exactly an ear worm - it's more of a grower. They've been spinning it on their own free will because it's Adele with no proper push from the label, and it's sitting right outside the top 10 and seems to have a hit a wall. However, had it been in power rotation already it would be peaking, and the label's timeline for the single would be completely messed up.  Instead, it's been helping sell the album and we have what is now a familiar song that still has a lot of room for growth at radio. This could very potentially be ideal.  Radio may even be like... ok guys... we need something more at this point before we can get behind it 100%... and that's exactly what is about to happen.  It's not the instant radio smash some of us think it should be before writing it off, but that doesn't mean it's testing negatively, either, and there may be more to the story underneath what seems to be radio being over it already... programmers and labels do work together from time to time. <wink> Plus, some songs just need that special moment to properly launch them and make a connection, and this one has a potential Grammy moment in just over 2 weeks.... and still possibly a special concept video that will turn us all into sobbing fools. Who knows. There's a big picture plan here. A timeline. For comparison, this Justin Bieber 2-3 singles smashing radio at the same time thing... it's great.... and since he already made and released all these videos at once and has streaming availability across the board... it's a bit of a free for all and the label can be on auto-pilot and follow the lead of public demand. It's a nice strategy that has worked for him.  That's not how Adele or her team seem to roll, is it?  She's an exception to almost everything these days, isn't she?  There's clearly more than one formula for success... and I am aware there are no guarantees, to be clear.

I don't know.... smash, medium hit, or relative flop - streaming and/or concept video or neither.... I can't wait to see what happens here.  I understand the raised eyebrows and the curiosity and the thinking that this is all very peculiar or flat out not good, even if I don't fully share these feelings - at least not yet.  And ultimately, this isn't about who ends up being right or wrong, it's about letting it play out beyond the early airplay its been receiving up until less than a week ago.  I also don't think it's nearly as doom and gloom or mishandled as some of us are implying, and the possibilities here far outnumber the "no chances" imo.

One other quick note on my optimism... I've taken note of WWWYs iTunes performance each time the song was performed... and its always gotten lots of love. And this last time, via Carpool Karaoke - combined with healthy airplay exposure - it spiked and has stayed around the top 10-15 since.. which is consistent with its current airplay. This suggests to me that there is solid consumer interest and with power rotation at radio, streaming availability, a good video and a solid performance at the Grammys... the sky is potentially the limit.

They could really put it on streaming outlets tomorrow to counter any negative radio updates.

They basically have to make the decision: more sales of '25' (see '1989') or chart performance. Radio is starting to slide. Grammys are still 2+ weeks away and that boost may not even be enough to get it Top 20. Grammys on Monday night, sales week end Thursday, so not a full week. It's not a terrible song - I just think they may have assumed that radio would just play anything by ADELE

^ Yeah, i'm thinking any streaming and/or video they have lined up need to happen prior to the Grammys - if not tomorrow, next week. And maybe that's the plan anyway. I'm sure they've been sticking to plan as long as they can - but it's time for them to start showing their hand (or playing a card, lol) anytime now.  It'll be interesting to see what they do.

To be fair, radio is playing it - a lot, even... and it's not exactly radio friendly.  It just needs to establish a connection which i still think a strong video and/or performance can provide... even if radio doesn't go ALL in.

Adele was relatively new when SLY came out, and she'd never had a big hit ballad. I fear this could suffer from "been there, done that" syndrome. Presume the sonically different "Send My Love" should be next?
