I expect Zayn's single to skyrocket in airplay now that his Hot 100 #1 is published. Crazy he's still below the top 75.

Zayn Malik's "Pillowtalk" became the 25th song to debut at number one on the Hot 100. Eleven of the previous 24 debuts fell from the top spot the following week.
In order by biggest drop in their SECOND chart week:
#1 to #6 2004 Fantasia "I Believe" 2010 Eminem "Not Afraid" 2011 Britney Spears "Hold It Against Me"
#1 to #5 2009 Britney Spears "3" 2010 Kesha "We R Who We R"
#1 to #4 2012 Katy Perry "Part Of Me"
#1 to #3 2005 Carrie Underwood "Inside Your Heaven" 2006 Taylor Hicks "Do I Make You Proud" 2015 Justin Bieber "What Do You Mean"
#1 to #2 1995 Michael Jackson "You Are Not Alone" 1995 Whitney Houston "Exhale"
Will Zayn Malik set a new benchmark or will "Pillowtalk" fall somewhere in between? What about the possibility of holding on to the number one spot?

They don't look at Billboard and suddenly go all in on a song because it debuted at #1 - they need to get a sense from their audience along with other factors. I'm not saying it won't potentially be a radio hit, but it's not going to suddenly skyrocket.

Actually, once songs prove to be big hits out the gate, radio usually plays catch up. You seem to be reading "skyrocket" to mean I've implied the song will be Top 10 in airplay next week, which is not the implication. But the song is certified as a big hit and its big opening will ease the minds of many PD's who have been on the fence. It'll certainly climb faster than it has been.

I doubt it's gonna hold on to #1 next week. Sales and streaming have cooled, so that lack of 150+ radio AI is really gonna show.
Also, wow, the radio's been starting to cool on Bieber lately as well. I think Love Yourself might already be peaking. It took some losses on pop radio, so this doesn't bode well.

Ok, I guess I took your word "skyrocket" for what it actually means. I stand by what i said though, that a big debut does not mean a big radio hit, or ultimately even a big hit at all. Ask Britney Spears after Hold It Against Me. It's going to take time, and I see this having more of a steady climb rather than a race upward after this initial buzz. There was a big curiosity factor at play here, and its huge debut was a direct result of curiosity and his star power more than it was about the song itself. Radio programmers know this. While it may climb faster than it had been in its first week, there's no guarantee its going to become a big radio hit, that's all.

But since you're bringing the dictionary into this: It will rise very rapidly in comparison to other songs on the chart. It will!

Well let's not forget that PILLOWTALK is On The Verge at pop (and possibly rhythmic too). So it was going to move pretty quickly regardless.

I expect Zayn's single to skyrocket in airplay now that his Hot 100 #1 is published. Crazy he's still below the top 75. Well if the song would've gotten the same treatment as say hmmm "Work" which got 154+ adds from the get-go it would be a different story. The day radio becomes fair across the board we would see a more real representation of what's popular.

Predictions: Rank | Song | Sales | Airplay | Streams | Points | 1 | Love Yourself | 95 | 140 | 15.0 | 37,000 | 2 | Stressed Out | 95 | 140 | 12.5 | 35,000 | 3 | Sorry | 55 | 135 | 17.0 | 33,800 | 4 | My House | 140 | 75 | 10.0 | 31,400 | 5 | Hello | 65 | 110 | 11.5 | 27,800 | 6 | Work | 100 | 65 | 10.0 | 26,000 | 7 | PILLOWATALK | 80 | 25 | 15.0 | 23,900 | 8 | Me, Myself & I | 60 | 55 | 12.0 | 22,200 | 9 | Roses | 50 | 85 | 9.0 | 21,600 | 10 | Adventure of a Lifetime | 90 | 45 | 7.0 | 20,300 |
* This week's rankings seems pretty clear.... but there might be minor variations from this. * Love Yourself should return back to #1, while Stressed Out and My House should move up to #2 and #4 respectively. * PILLOWTALK will definitely get at least one more week in Top-10. Same for 'Work', though I think it will remain for many more weeks now. * Summer Sixteen will drop out of Top-10 and will be replaced by "Adventure of a Lifetime" which should easily get #10, or maybe even #9, if it has more sales and streaming. Will revise later.......

Quite surprised that Billboard didn't mention Justin Bieber dominates top two spots of Airplay chart.

I hope Hands To Myself can return to the Top 10. I really want her to get another Top 5 but it's starting to look a little too competitive for her to get that high

If Twenty One Pilots is smart enough then do a remix and put the original on 0.69 then I don't think there's anyway it's not #1 next week

Stressed Out needs to hurry the hell up and get number 1 already! Adele is coming, Rihanna is "working" her way up the top 10. Flo Rida (also deserving of the number 1 spot, but I would like it to hit #1 after SO) is also posing a huge threat.
UGH! PLZ DON'T LET ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS BE BLOCKED OFF! (Thinking Out Loud is my favorite song, and it got blocked by UF at this same time of year -_- This is too much of a coincidence.)
I am predicting Stressed Out peaking at #2. Adele's WWWY will come and snatch the #1 just as SO passes LY. (A month ago, I predicted this to happen. But I thought it would happen on the 2/27 chart.)

I pretty much lost hope for Stressed Out becoming #1 a long time ago. It just doesn't have the youtube power, and it's never been able to pull ahead of Love Yourself on really anything. It's probably gonna pass Sorry, but Love Yourself is out of the question. My guess is that its gonna get in a week or two at #2 before My House and Work (and maybe WWWY) take over. However, I do think the song might stick around for the 52 weeks due to it being pretty consistent in everything, and still having a lot of radio and streaming inertia, and it looks like youtube might catch up too, though far too late to make an impact on the top.

I'll be annoyed if Adventure of a Lifetime climbs to 11.
