They're using the same strategy for 25 that they used for 21. Singles are released like 6 months apart each. The flaw in that plan is that 21's second single was huge. When We Were Young is dead.

Wow @ Adele at #9. Where is single #3? From comments at UKMix, promotion is done. Another single may be sent to radio, but don't expect a video or promotion. Stupid!

m.hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=300555Wednesday, April 6, 2016 A RACE FOR #1 ON SPS CHART: CAN KANYE AND SCOOTER STREAM TO VICTORY?The latest indicators suggest that Kanye West is on track for about 100m streams this week on The Life of deleted (G.O.O.D./Def Jam) and if download sales from his website are reported and certified and are sufficient to make up the difference, he could overtake Chris Stapleton for the #1 spot on the HITS Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) chart. Those big streaming numbers, of course, come primarily from Spotify and Apple Music, where deleted has been the #1 streaming title since ending its TIDAL exclusive and going wide. The announcement coincided with news that Kanye had added Scooter Braun to his management team. Will Braun, who worked his multi-faceted mojo to shepherd Justin Bieber to an impressive chart victory after a fierce sales battle with One Direction—and launching a massive sales story for Biebs that continues to this day—work that same mojo to bring Kanye a win? Stapleton's Traveller (Mercury Nashville) is a lock for #1 on our Album Sales Chart. Will Kanye rack up the numbers to overtake the Nashville breakout on the SPS side, and become the first release to do so almost entirely with streams? Stay tuned.

So TLOP is elegible even if his website doesn't report sales figures?

Wow @ Adele at #9. Where is single #3? From comments at UKMix, promotion is done. Another single may be sent to radio, but don't expect a video or promotion. Stupid! Wow. I'm all for Adele being an albums artist and doing however little/much promo she wants to do but ending promotion for an 8x platinum album less than 5 months after its release? With multiple hits waiting to be released? They could surely be creative with music videos without working Adele too hard. I've said many times before how huge of a hit this era has been and I obviously still believe so but it is disappointing to think it could be over already. I guess the tour is still pushing it.

^Maybe after an 11 million selling album in the USA, the label only expected 8 million total sold for the followup?
They easily reached 8 million so they are done.
Adele won't have to film any more videos or do any of the usual promotion at all.
I think they are making a mistake.

After the album's sold over 8.5 million copies, I'm wondering if it would really be worth it to spend more money on promotion? Sales have peaked long ago, so I'm thinking that subsequent singles would only fuel maybe about 1.5 million more sales. This is peanuts compared to the 7 million from its first few weeks. How much of a return would they get from promotion at this point? Getting started on the next album might actually be a better option here. Don't forget, 25 has already sold as many copies as around 1.5 years of 21's lifespan.

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=300588Friday, April 8, 2016 KANYE MAKES HISTORYKanye West is officially the first artist to have an album go #1 with a number based entirely on streaming from the major outlets. There were some paid album downloads for The Life of deleted from the G.O.O.D/Def Jam star’s own website, but the overwhelming majority of the 90k+ earned came from streaming services, including Apple Music, Spotify and Tidal. This unprecedented strategy was crafted with Kanye by new manager Scooter Braun, Steve Bartels and Team Def Jam. Meanwhile, Ye can also be seen atop the iTunes singles chart, thanks to his collaboration with Drake on “Pop Style.”

If Katy Perry can get 5 singles out of Prism, which I believe is around 1.5 million albums sold, Adele can get at least a third single and stay profitable.
Also, two diamond albums in a row is no small feat and she's the only one that can do it currently.
About Kanye, his ego doesn't need the boost of being the first artist to go #1 on streams alone. OK numbers considering the messy release I guess. Hopefully Drake and Beyoncé don't follow this trend and just release their albums the traditional way.

So Hits is saying Kanye's album *sold* 25K copies (no one figured this was selling more than 5-10K), resulting in a clear-cut victory over Stapleton.
Wow.

People Underestimate kanyes power. This release was all crazy like Rihanna's but both have shown they are still massive stars and with a more traditional launch they would have shown much better numbers instead of fragmented sales. Kanye is a nut anyways but the album is surely a success for what he intended. Rihanna's album is a monster and don't even try to tell me it's because of streaming changes and singles. The album is FIRE and hot. I mean yeah it is because of the new rules but if this album came out 5 years ago it would yield similar results

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=300593Friday, April 8, 2016 THIS CHART BELONGS TO KANYE deleted Becomes First Album to Hit #1 Based Almost Entirely on Streams With around 100m streams for The Life of deleted–which translates to roughly 65k SEA (Stream Equivalent Albums) and 90k SPS (Sales Plus Streaming)–G.O.O.D/Def Jam megastar Kanye West has officially become the first artist in history to reach #1 with a number based almost entirely on streaming alone. See our full SPS Chart, which Kanye has impressively dominated, here. Although there were some paid downloads from the star’s own website, the overwhelming majority of the number earned came from streaming services, including Apple Music, Spotify and TIDAL. Meanwhile, Mercury Nashville’s Chris Stapleton soars to #1 on the HITS Album Sales Chart with 59k for breakout set Traveller (#2 at SPS with 73k), following a huge look from the ACM Awards, where he scored six wins. FYI, Traveller was released nearly a year ago and first saw a significant sales spike after a jaw-dropping and insanely reactive performance of now beloved ballad “Tennessee Whiskey” with Justin Timberlake on November’s CMAs. It’s safe to say that the man behind the beard is having a damn good year. Three new releases follow Stapleton. At #2, Crush Music’s Weezer appear with 43k, while TWENTY88—a collaborative project between G.O.O.D/Def Jam’s Big Sean and Artium/Def Jam’s Jhené Aiko—debuts at #3 with 40k. And Warner Bros. rising star Lukas Graham bows at #4 with 37k for his debut album, as smash hit “7 Years” approaches platinum status. The Danish band is in some solid company, considering they were virtually unknown just a few months ago. As for the remaining debuts, Big Machine’s Cheap Trick land at #11 with their 17th studio album, Bang, Zoom, Crazy… Hello–just a week before being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—while Mascot’s Black Stone Cherry hits the #14 spot. Even excluding Stapleton, the ACMs sparked serious consumer interest, as can be seen throughout the chart. Gaither’s Joey + Rory go #10-7, 19/Arista Nashville’s Carrie Underwood soars #48-19 (up 128%), MCA Nashville’s Sam Hunt jumps #32-29 and Valory/BMLG’s Thomas Rhett goes #38-32, while RCA Nashville’s Chris Young and EMI Nashville’s Eric Church re-enter at #37 and #39, respectively. We’re sure that seeing those numbers feels almost as good as the bottle of Advil did after the Vegas-based awards show. The country community may have been celebrating this weekend, but the passing of Merle Haggard certainly left a sudden pang in many hearts this week. As fans of the late country icon and songwriting master mourn, his 40 #1 Hits (eOne) re-enters the chart at #40. Streeting this week are albums from Dualtone’s The Lumineers and Reprise’s Deftones.

Don't forget, 25 has already sold as many copies as around 1.5 years of 21's lifespan. Plenty of albums have a lot more singles/videos and sell less than 1.5 million total, so Adele selling that off 1-2 more singles would surely be worth it financially. Seriously, it doesn't take much at all to push a song to radio.

How many track streams does it take for an album to crack the BB200 on streaming alone?

Bonnie Raitt's holds have been impressive (on the pure album sales chart, not on the SPS chart)
