Man I wasn't fully prepared for the song much less the song-video combo! SO good. Like I teared up on that 2nd verse! Please SLAY radio.

"Holdin' Her" got 13 adds this week including Cumulus and KILT in Houston (CBS radio). A huge add week for this song for sure.

"Holdin Her" is actually starting to take off a little bit. Chris Janson has gained a little over 1 million in audience the past two weeks. I can definitely see this being one of the songs that survives the onslaught of new releases, its selling pretty well and the Top 40 is now within reach.

I've already commented on this song, but as a husband and a father of two daughters, I hope this song continues to take off.

I'm starting to really warm to this song which I tried to avoid at any cost. The composition and the instrumentation is just too good to be ignored. :) Have honestly my utmost problems with the lyrics (not so much with the message itself, but still). It's just so straight in your face and I don't like to know about artist's personal lives and dragging kids into it is just nothing I can stomach. It's all rainbows, and God Bless & pink unicorns, etc. (And that video...) I believe a more poetic and figurative approach and narration (even heavily Christian leaning) would have given the song a stronger punch and even deeper meaning. Just my thoughts. Don't slay me.

trebor, my husband heard the song before he knew any of the context behind the song, and he said "I feel like this is one of those songs that I should like, but it's so specific that although I can relate to it, I also can't." He now knows that it was written specifically for/about Chris' wife and daughter, and said he can relate to idea of holding a wife and daughter, but the specific lyrics still take him out of the song a bit.

I love everything about this song but the lyric..
"that's when I saw her for the first time, right around last call."
Last call is what, 2:00 am in most parts of the Country. You don't see her in the bar/poolhall before that? lol

I like that line. Never been anywhere at last call, but it just symbolizes how down he was.
He met her for the *first* time at *last* call. Surely she was there before that, but he was so blinded by the lifestyle he was living, maybe he didn't even notice her. At the very last moment, her appearing to him was like a whack in the face. Woke him up and changed him to a new man.

Props to Chris for still being able to see straight at last call! Sorry I couldn't resist lol.
Never thought of that line so deeply until now haha.

Last call is also a kind of "make your move" time as well. It's either now or never.

"Holding Her" cracks the MB Top 40 at #40. Which means CT40 spins coming Chris's way which will really help this song even more.

OK question for you. Is it the specificity of the lyric or the truthfulness that makes it difficult to relate?

This song is one of my favorites right now but I do think that radio has raised this as high as they want too.
Since the start of the month "Holdin Her" has lost about 40 spins and close to 800k in audience. So this song is on life support at this point it seems.
On Billboard, Josh Turner is for sure going to pass Chris Janson this week (they were less than 40k between each other) and it won't be long before Trent Harmon, Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley and Jason Aldean all get ahead of Chris Janson (once the slowdown stops they'll be back climbing).
I love "Holdin' Her" immensely but with a lot of fast moving songs below it about ready to get ahead once the slowdown is over (and new music from Rascal Flatts and Lady Antebellum both of which I full on expect to get iHeartMedia debuts). This song is one that I expect to soon give up.

I simply don't like this song. I've tried to get into it, but can't and it's unfortunately proven to be a station changer for me. The melody just doesn't work for me and the beat gives it a really generic feel. I'm not saying it's a bad song per se, but it's just not for me and selfishly I am ready for radio to move on from it.

"Holdin' Her" wounded up losing 250 points this week on MB along with 77 spins so the end is very near for this song and I assume that this and High Valley's "Make You Mine" will both be leaving soon as both songs are very old and it seems like radio is not very intrested in converting either song any further.

Ad for "Holdin' Her" in Country Aircheck tonight. It would be easy to say, "well, they just want a top 20 peak"...I do think they would like that to happen but more than anything, and you can say this about numerous singles this old, the label wants this to stay in its rotation as long as possible. Promoting this song for another couple weeks is always important for labels -- it keeps the artist's name out there; it can help increase sales/streams; plus Janson's next single is likely from a new album, and who knows when that drops, or how long that takes to reach a mass audience... Yeah, this song isn't top 20 yet, but they'll sacrifice a couple more weeks of promotion money to keep this song and artist's airplay alive, because the exposure is what they're paying for. Unfortunately, continuing to promote songs like this (and "Make You Mine" -- both Warner Music promoted) hinders others they're promoting, further down the chart like "How Not To", "Love Triangle', "Yesterday's Song" and "Missing." Warner separates them by a few different promotion departments, but this is a huge reason why the charts are so unbelievably slow these days. I was out with friends tonight after our local radio show and I showed my one Country music friend (who literally pays zero attention to the charts, lol) the latest Billboard Airplay chart and he said, "47 weeks?!?!...Holy sh*t" for "If The Boot Fits." Even the average fan who pays no attention to radio promotion thinks this has gotten out of hand.

I was listening to "Outskirts of Heaven" on the radio tonight and the thought crossed my mind that I wonder if either that song or this one would've done a bit better if they didn't have to compete for airplay at the same time? I think it's been pretty widely established/accepted at this point that they sound very similar, and with them moving up the charts at the same time, I can't help but feel like perhaps they would've both done a bit better if they weren't out simultaneously, because we know country radio PDs in today's climate can't be clamoring to fit both of these neo-traditional-leaning slow-tempos into their playlists, which they've had to do for most of the past year, lol.

That's an interesting thought. It's possible, even if it isn't intentional I suppose. I think both Chris' and Craig's would've seen slow climbs up the chart anyway, but radio programmers definitely do not want multiples of these sorta throwback sounding singles on their playlists, even though that sounds incredibly unfortunate.

This song if it holds off Dan + Shay and their current single "How Not To". I do think that once this hits the Top 20 on radio this song will go. Then again "Make You Mine" is still going🙄
I do believe that the Top 20 will be the maximum that both "Holdin' Her" and "Make You Mine" will get.
Hopefully the next couple of weeks finally see both of them leave as I am so sick of this song in particular as I have heard this song at least 3 times today alone.

This one is finally done. Lost at least 100 spins for each daily update on Monday to Wednesday, including a -214 update today.

I'm glad this made the top 20 at least because this one is so great!
Odd how "Lipstick", "If He Ain't Gonna Love You", "Outskirts Of Heaven", "Baby, Let's Lay Down And Dance", and this all fell within a two week period! "Roots" & "Make You Mine" are also looking weak so maybe it'll be a full 3 week house cleaning we've been needing.

Today's update was bad but the label ran another convert ad in Aircheck's email yesterday and the song has gained 23 net spins the past three days. Maybe they throw in the towel mid-week here but tomorrow and Friday will tell us for sure.
