I'm not really surprised this has had such a long run. Aside from "Hello," most of her singles haven't been huge smashes right out of the gate. Wasn't "Rolling in the Deep" released in December before finally hitting #1 on the Hot 100 5 months later in May? I understand she was at a different stage in her career then, but I guess her singles will always just be slow risers with low burn rates. That's not necessarily a bad thing if she wants to continue collecting a stack of memorable singles in her catalogue.

Adele is one of these few acts who have longevity as their middle name.

Just get to #1 for f**k's sake so it can go away already. Geez, 5 months for a single by a massive artist to peak is utterly ridiculous. This feels prehistoric at this point. If every single from her takes this long to peak in the future she'll easily get her 5 year between albums wish just by releasing 6 singles or so. The single was released in mid-May, so it's been three and a half months. And literally only one song that has been released in the past four and a half months has hit number one ("Can't Stop The Feeling"). So this isn't unusual. "Ride" started impacting radio at the start of April and JUST hit number one. "Cheap Thrills" was released at the end of February and took a long time to get to number one and stuck around for a while. It's a cute narrative that you're spinning, but it's pretty standard these days for the biggest hits to make a slow march to the top. The ones that jet up ("Can't Stop The Feeling" and "Hello") are also quick burners and their year-to-date radio impact suffers as a result. This single is doing exactly what it needs to do.

Not a fan of this slowdown. The threshold for #1 is weakening, this needs to be picking up +200's right now.

It may be weakening, but even if today's updates continue...
7 days to beat Sia 3 days to beat twenty one pilots
15 days until Major Lazer beats this

Fine, 4 months to peak then. Point is that's way too long for any song to be climbing really, let alone one by a huge established superstar. And maybe it wouldn't be so bad if it had lingered below top 20 for ages, but it seems like its been in at least medium rotation for forever now.

I'm not a huge fan of this particular song but I like the idea of not every single out there either crashing right away or, worse in my opinion, becoming "instant hits" only to burn out just as quickly and becoming forgettable hits in the grand scheme of things.

This song is great for Adele. She really only has 5 recognizable radio hits (RITD, SLY, SFTTR, Hello, and now this). She's obviously not in need of any radio hits for general success and notoriety, but having hits that people can recognize will only diversify and solidify her legacy down the road.

I honestly hear RHI and WWWY as much, if not more, than all of those listed (minus this one, of course) on the radio. She may not always peak high, but all of her 21+ singles have some good longevity.

They don't play "Chasing pavements" on the radio anymore? Or did "Rolling in the deep" smash so hard that it sent her previous biggest hit that won her a Grammy for best new artist into oblivion?
Not saying that I prefer CP over RITD or anything, I just thought it was also pretty big on the radio

Chasing Pavements didn't chart on pop. I think it only made #21 or something on Hot AC. Probably hit the top ten on AAA though.

I'm happy this has done well only for the fact that another single can get sent. I'm still waiting for the monster that could be "Water Under the Bridge".

Ok, this was a fantastic summer song from her but summer is over and now I'm waiting for this to die so they can move on with another single. "Water Under The Bridge" would be a great choice and pretty much everyone demands it and if they don't go with this song I'll be surprised, but there are other decent Fall ballads on the album like "Remedy" and "All I Ask".
I know it's unlikely but I'll be rooting for "Sweet Devotion" to eventually become a hit. They need to release it at least as a single, that chorus is a waste as an album track.
