To all y'all people who have been shitting on Queenlicia's vocals lately, that live performance was nothing I didn't see/hear from her during the GoF tour with Miguel. I think she is mostly off on televised performances and occasionally on album but I was expecting excellence and she delivered on SNL.

Her voice was on point during the Set The World On Gire Tour because she worked with a vocal coach. So...her voice isnt great like it was 15-10 years ago, but if she has a vocal coach and stay on her range she still sounds good!

This is just so good. I was going to say it's her best single since "Unthinkable (I'm Ready)," but I think I like this better than that. Maybe since "No One" then?

If radios dont support this song it will flop. And it will be such a shame because It's a really good song. The best first single she has released since You Dont Know My Name imo.

Outside of TSWABH and LYNSMA, this is my favorite of her singles, first or otherwise. It gives me everything I need and even things I didn't know I needed.

Alicia couldn't get this to chart on the Hot 100 even with an SNL performance? I love the song and still have hope, but there's no excuse for someone of her caliber to bubble under the chart with a lead single and prime promo. Not a great sign.

#50 on RHYTHMIC. (Building chart)
Impacting Rhythmic radio May, 24th.
9th most added on Rhythmic with 5 adds.
She will have to work to get a hit in the current Itunes/Streaming market. She's a mainstream female R&B/Soul artist. It is not 2009 anymore. Top40/Pop radio won't touch her if she doesn't bring something substantial to the table.
Her last Pop hit (Girl on Fire, 2013) reached #10 on Pop Mainstream, and #15 on Rhythmic.
With Urban and Rhythmic radio, she can still score huge hits as an R&B artist.
She was due for a re-invention. She did it. We just need to give it time.

I'm sure she'll perform it everywhere though, Alicia is one of those artists that books every spot she can.

Shouldn't have this gone up on iTunes after The Voice performance? It seems it didn't have a major effect. Ugh.

Alicia never had an instant hit tho. Well no one said this should debut at #1 but it couldn't even debut at #91... I'm sort of in the middle on this. It is potentially concerning, but I'm not in total doomsday mode yet. She hasn't been a must-watch-for name in a few years now, the single was put out with almost no hype or big announcement at all, and had no first-day airplay deal. Typically when people get big Hot 100 spikes from SNL or Voice appearances, the single was either already in the iTunes top 100 (wasn't going to be the case b/c hardly anyone knew she even had a new song out) or it had some radio presence already in place (not the case because she didn't have that hourly deal to give her a quick boost). I.e. there is a kind of 'layering' promo strategy that Alicia isn't doing for whatever reason - she is building from ground zero in every metric at the same time, so it's going to be a slow crawl to whatever her peak is. If she and her label** put their full weight behind this and remain committed to it then it should do all right in the long run, but I am a bit worried about her label not putting forth any money toward an airplay deal, as that makes me wonder if they are going to put a lot of effort behind this overall. I don't think she's ever used them before though, so maybe that isn't anything to make a big deal. There isn't much in the way of TV promo during the summer, but she can still do radio interviews and the morning shows (GMA, the Today Show, Live With Kelly, the View) and I'd be very surprised if she wasn't at the BET Awards. Also, there might be a couple of weeks left to squeeze in some late night performances before those shows all go into reruns. **I'm personally more concerned about the fact that her label is RCA than anything else. Them mofos stay finding ways to fuck their r&b shit up, but hopefully they will do right by Ms. Keys.
