Well no one said this should debut at #1 but it couldn't even debut at #91... I know but... No One (BU:115) 71-15-16-12-8-4-4-4-3-2-*1*-1-1-1-1-2-2-2-2-2-2-5-4-4-5-8-11-13-17-18-18-15-21-24-26-29-31-44-44 #BB100 That's not a good comparison at all. No One debuted from just airplay (the BU position was from about a day I think, if not less than that) and then jumped into the top 20 after going on sale. It was probably the most out of the box hit she had. I think it wasn't a good idea at all to just toss this out there without any prior notice, especially after a long absence and even longer since her last big Urban hit. Even GOF had a use in a commercial prior to its release.

Alicia Keys's "In Common" Video Is A Midsummer Night's Dream "This video is about celebrating our individuality, and how in the brilliance of our uniqueness, the magic of it all is at the core, we are all the same." This new video for Alicia Keys's "In Common"—the airy first single off The FADER issue number seven cover star's forthcoming album, is midsummer night dreamy. Shot in black-and-white, it finds a glowing Keys draped over a fire escape, watching while a troupe of dancers tangle their dewy limbs in the streets below. "This video is about celebrating our individuality, and how in the brilliance of our uniqueness, the magic of it all is at the core, we are all the same," she told The FADER. "We want the same things. We all want to experience love, the freedom to be our truest selves, to love whomever we want and to be accepted and celebrated for all of our nuances and so called imperfections that make us, us." www.thefader.com/2016/05/20/alicia-keys-in-common-video-premiere

I echo. Great video. Captures the song. Would have loved more actual dancing though.

Perfect video. Proof that minimal can still create an intricate mood and atmosphere.

Honestly radio deals don't work for songs that are going to get Urban and UAC only airplay. Those panels have very few iHeartRadio stations and the rest doesn't operate like that. This is not a CHR hit.
The video is cute and here she goes with the explanations and preaching.

The video's not bad, but it's not overly exciting or rewatchable. And not that videos like this don't have their place, but once again for the first single off an album after a while away, with the last project not hitting the same heights at her core format that she usually had, is a $50 budget video really the best way to go? And just dumping it out there with no effort to hype it up prior is still a bad strategy.

Beautiful video celebrating both NYC and diversity. Also, I can tell she is REALLY feeling this song, from the way she moves to it. Still in my top 5 Alicia songs.

The vocals are perhaps growing on me. If anything I'm curious to hear this album.

I know marketing-wise just casually dropping the video might not be the best idea, but selfishly I'm all for it. I'm so tired of everyone's announcements and countdowns.

Great video! Captures the mood of the song perfectly. I love the stylized use of the fire escape and fire hydrant. Really pops against the neutral background.

I don't really have strong feelings on the video. Not bad at all, but I have no desire to watch it again.

This is not a CHR hit. The video is cute and here she goes with the explanations and preaching. I kind of feel differently - I agree that an airplay deal for urban/UAC formats is pointless, but if they want this song to make any kind of impact on the Hot 100 they need to at least try to get some CHR play. Because she has been gone so long a CHR deal was probably the only way she was going to get that format to give her a real chance. I'm not entirely willing to dismiss this as not a CHR hit yet b/c I remember thinking GOF was going to go nowhere and it ended up reaching the top 10 on CHR. I don't think pop listeners are averse to AKeys, they just aren't checking for her. Edit - the video could have been elevated from good to great by filming the exact same scenes in an actual NY street instead of in a studio with a few token props. Not sure why she (or RCA) decided to be so obviously cheap about it. They didn't even bother giving her a backdrop. ??? It is nice, but probably too understated to make an impact for streaming purposes.

I'm kind of disappointed that her label isn't doing much regarding radio. It is doing decent but this should be doing "No One" numbers. The promo is not helping because people don't know the song. She is not young anymore for these kids to care

Idk with a CHR deal the song might've just crashed and burned and deemed an immediate flop.

Almost everyone love this new song but it is not doing good...a lot of people hated Girl On Fire (me too) and it was a hit single. Wtf is wrong with people?!

The problem I have with the song is that while it's a solid track w/ a nice hook it doesn't go anywhere for me. The song comes across innocent and safe but it doesn't make me was to be like "omg I need to listen to this today". If it comes on my playlist I'll play it but probably wouldn't repeat it. It's just kinda...there.

Goes for official RHYTHMIC adds today, May 24th.
The song is doing poorly out of the gate. That is a fact as of today's Billboard charts. Digital and streaming wise it is a disaster. Urban radio is not latching on to Alicia as hard (and instantly) as they used to.
This will gradually (slowly) catch steam.
"In Common" will blow up in a few weeks though. Just hang on.

I expected Urban to be slow to warm up to any new AK song that doesn't have a popular of the moment artist feature on it. When was the last time she had a top 10 airplay single on Urban Mainstream? Was it Unthinkable? Where did GOF peak in terms of Urban mainstream airplay? All those Mother other/Poppy-like songs AND her supposed home wrecker scandal did her a disservice to that format and audience. She's basically a new artist to them. She will have to work really hard to win back Urban. I think this song will end up being a hit (not sure how massive yet), but it's going to take a while. So she may not want to launch the album for another 8-10 weeks, lol.
