Intriguing art.
It seems that they are sensitive to the fears of this being another snarky song and are taking steps to mitigate that.
Perhaps radio will get behind this one. After all, not everyone fishes, but everyone has had a Sierra at some point in life.

Interesting cover art... I wonder what kind of video this song could get (if they ever release one).

Be still my beating heart!! Maddie Marlow is definitely a good-looking gal, but I swear Tae Dye is one of the most beautiful people I have ever seen... I fall in love a little bit more every time I see a picture of them. That single cover is absolutely flawless! As far as "Sierra"'s chances go, I share the concern that it may pigeon-hole them into a sassy-girl mold. But I also don't think it is too late for them to change that perspective with subsequent singles. This song may not do as well as I would have initially thought, considering the fact that "Shut Up And Fish" stalled out too low, but I do still think it will do well enough to keep their popularity up. I am disappointed this came at the expense of "Waitin' On A Plane", but honestly anything left on the album would sound good on radio, and I will just be happy to keep hearing these two on the radio regardless of what the song is

After all, not everyone fishes, but everyone has had a Sierra at some point in life. MR Perfectly said. I felt this should've been the single instead of "Fly." BUT, I get trying to prevent the "novelty" niche label. Then they release SUAF and then this... most will view them as novelty only. I feel they should've released a strong ballad going into the Fall / Winter season instead of SUAF, but it didn't happen. I'm afraid they'll get no broad play on this one, but it won't be because I'm not spinning the crap out of it!

Interesting that tonight's Billboard update (in the "Going For Adds" section) lists the label for "Sierra" as 'Dot/Republic Nashville'. Not really sure if staffers from both promo teams will be working the song to radio, or what.

This song is actually really good and I'm glad it's being released to radio. They got the fiddle and steel guitar. I'm glad they are releasing a song about bullying because that's one thing not needed in this world.

It's not about bullying per se, but Sierra is clearly the "mean girl bully" subject and the song is the girls getting their comeuppance. It's nothing more than a cathartic, fantasy approach to bullying.

It is absolutely about bullying.
If you dont see that then you don't get the song.

Why? Because they have a platform?
Apparently , what Sierra did was factual. M&t are fighting back in hypotheticals.
How can they be the "bully"? They are fantasizing about their nemesis getting their comeuppance .
Dont turn an anti bullying song into the victim here.
Please.

Matty005 The same argument was made against Taylor Swift's, "Mean."

Idk how "Fly" did, but I was so disappointed when that was a single over this. (I still can't remember how it goes.) "Sierra", however, is one of the best songs on the album (maybe only #2 to "Girl in a Country Song"?) I really hated "Shut Up and Fish", but I think this is a great choice for a summer single.

I also didn't like Shut Up And Fish, and if it was up to me, I wouldn't have released that at any point. Now, Sierra is a great song, and I hope it does well. Hopefully SUAF was a weird small bump in the road to success lol

I see this song as mostly about Karma, in the sense that people will get what they deserve if they treat everyone else like trash. Calling out bullies or people that mistreat you isn't bullying.
I can't wait for the music video!

"Sierra" is showing as the third most added song on Mediabase this week with 27 adds on impact day (31 stations total).
"Shut Up And Fish" got 40 adds on impact day, with over 50 stations total.

"Sierra" climbed 16 spots to #58 on Mediabase this week.
I've really enjoyed their vocals on all their singles thus far but there's something innately infectious about their harmonies on this song, with these lyrics.

Great article in Billboard last night as "Sierra" is the profiled song this this week's, 'Makin Tracks.'

Who cares?
This is bmlg/dot/republic. Anything less than big jumps on the charts that actually count don't matter.
Here's hoping they can push this past "Shut up and fish". If not, they are in a precarious situation.

I can't be the only one who is shocked at how fast this song is moving since it's the 4th single from this album. What do I mean? Well last week "Sierra" gained about 700k in audience and this week Maddie & Tae look to gain 700k to 800k in audience, I just find it shocking since "Shut Up & Fish" really doused their momentum. I'm not complaining since I love this song but I am left confused that with this chart clog it seems like Maddie & Tae are doing the reverse of what I expected so far and is moving rather well.

Well, it sounds like it didn't. ;) In most cases it would have but I guess radio really loves Maddie & Tae (which they should) since 8 times out of 10 usually when a new artist has a song die in the teens or 20s the followup won't do that well (Charlie Worsham, Jana Kramer, Sheryl Crow, Hunter Hayes, Raelynn, A Thousand Horses, Danielle Bradbery). But I guess this might be a Dan + Shay where the song that miss the Top 20 "Show You Off" and "Shut Up & Fish" don't matter and the following song gets too the top "Nothing Like You" and who knows maybe "Sierra" can manage that. You won't hear me complain if it does.

I hope this one moves fast and peaks decently, they both deserve it. Also, where's the music video?

I hope this one moves fast and peaks decently, they both deserve it. Also, where's the music video? Well the song JUST came out, so it is not unusual that we have heard nothing about a video yet. In fact, I would not be surprised if we don't get one, since it's a 4th single coming off of a non-eventful 3rd single. However, I do hope I am wrong, because this song could make for such an excellent video!

Hm. How is this faring now? Seems it had a strong start but hasn't shown up on Mediabase top 50?

Hm. How is this faring now? Seems it had a strong start but hasn't shown up on Mediabase top 50? MR It moved up two spots to #52 this week. The early research is concerning, too. Look for a slow climb for this one. The heavy competition from the onslaught of new high profile release won't help either.
