Calvin Harris was interviewed by Nick Grimshaw in Los Angeles for BBC Radio 1 and he described the track as being the result of going in a more cinematic direction. "I try to fuse real feeling, emotion and texture - the sort of thing you feel in rock and pop - and making that in dance, because it felt like dance was a little bit 2D. The end effect is you have something that is more emotional, and sounds that conjure memories." And he said the following regarding Rihanna. "She's got that iconic voice, she's an icon within herself."

THIS is the Rihanna I love. I bet pop radio will be bending over backwards for this track. It's definitely a song of the summer contender, along with SML by Adele. I'm stoked I finally got to hear Rihanna on another track like this!

It's probably a bit better than We Found Love tbh.
I predict something like #1 on pop, #5 on HAC, #21 on rhythmic, #6 on the Hot 100.

It's good. The instrumental isn't amazing and the drop is pretty meh, but I like the verses and Rihanna sounds great :)
EDIT: Did some filtering, definitly sounds like Taylor in the pre chorus "baby, this is what...".

I miss the days when dance DIDNT rely on drops. Such a basic technique

Better than WFL and WHYB. Her voice is as angelic as ever and it doesn't resemble their previous colabs at all. Rih at her best as per usual.

I'd like a lot more if it's chorus were stronger than the before one

I love it! It isn't as epic sounding or probably trying to as "We Found Love". Which is fine. It has more of a vibe like Calvin's last hit "How Deep Is Your Love" which I also Love. On this track Rihanna isn't giving us much of her accent technique which can come and go track to track. I guess I can see why people think Taylor is on the track. Is she? I'm not sure if it will be the song of the Summer for me I think that goes to her just released track with Drake.

I think it's a bit basic, but it could be a hit à la "What Do U Mean?".
Is it officially his first single?

Same here. Not blown away by this, albeit it's not a bad song by any means. I only listened to it once though.

Ok so this isn't revolutionizing dance music but it is catchy pop fodder with Rihanna sounding great and I love it!

BTW this isn't anymore basic than WFL was and we saw how that did.

I think it's a bit basic, but it could be a hit à la "What Do U Mean?". Is it officially his first single? I thought I read an interview where he said that he is more interested in just dropping singles. Something about him regretting not releasing a song just as a single instead of tying it to an album. Anyone recall this? I've yet to hear anything about an upcoming album. As for the song: The "you you you" part is such a solid hook for me. It's not in your face - but it's tasty. I'm into it.

I was expecting more from the clip, but this is too generic for me. Maybe it'll grow...

I listened to this first thing when I woke up this morning. As a huge Calvin Harris fan, and a firm believer that We Found Love is one of the greatest pop songs of times, I was underwhelmed. But I was overwhelmed by We Found Love at first too.
Since then, I’ve heard This is What You Came For a dozen times *with headphones in*. That made all the difference. I now have my summer anthem.

First listen, I just thought it was okay. On subsequent listens, I liked it more and more. Then I listened to it on my car stereo, and damn I'm in love with this!

It might grow on me. I liked How Deep Is Your Love, and without Rihanna, this would probably perform similarly. The 2014 Ibiza House sound thing is a bit tired, and I hoped he would at least throw in a bit of a twist. It will smash, but it is very paint-by-numbers.

Love it. It's up on all streaming services from the get go and the official audio is on youtube. I think this has a high chance at debuting top 5, if not at #1, on the Hot 100.

LOVE the verses. Don't care for the chorus at all, though.

I like this a lot. I don't looooove it like I loved "We Found Love," but they're different enough where there's no need to compare.
I agree that it's a little basic. But, when Rihanna doesn't do basic people complain. So here's the very straightforward pop song you've all been waiting for, so just enjoy it!
Generally speaking, it's a shame that Pop ran the dancepop thing into the ground a couple of years ago because I really do like acts like Rihanna and Usher doing everything from pure pop to ratchet soul. It's refreshing to have so much music from Rih out right now that's all over the musical spectrum.

Interestingly enough, many people here also called We Found Love basic when it premiered...
Anyway, I listened to this twice at 6am and the pre-chorus/chorus has been stuck in my head since.
It's going to be HUGE. :'(
