A bold prediction with only being out a day, but I can see this debuting at #1 on the Hot 100.

This is awfully bad for a Max Martin song. You can't do soul or funk so don't even try, please.
EDIT: Forgot about Can't Feel My Face.. maybe there's an exception to everything

Long term, this'll be spinning in the same place as S&T and the rest of his 2013-onward singles will be: High end department store elevators soundtracking botoxed middle aged women spending their husbands money on clothes and makeup. THIS Listen to Lemonade after this song... what a difference!

This literally might be the safest song I have ever heard in my life by a top tier recording artist. He officially is "old" and making mom music now. Here comes Hot AC.

So was Ooh La La a risky single then? I think that proves somewhat of a point.. Britney released a generic, safe soundtrack single and it got treated as such yet Justin releases arguably an ever safer, boring generic song and its blown up and have people calling it a wedding classic. Besides the Sexyback era I can't think of when Justin has ever been cutting edge and has done anything to warrant this icon status besides being a hot guy.

The hype before the 20/20 Experience was insane! But part of it also ties into his acting career and him dating Britney and being apart of Nsync. He's a much bigger name than Usher is, imo.

He is definitely bigger than Usher and I know he is seen as an icon but besides the music on FS/LS, what has he done as a solo artist that is iconic.. I can't think of any videos that he has made besides "Cry Me a River" and that bc of the Britney look a like. There's no performance or videos that I can think wow Justin killed it or did something legendary. I just don't think his status is fitting really. Does he make decent music? Yes, I guess but this whole hype he has doesn't make sense to me.

Sexyback is pretty iconic. He's a good dancer. He's a great collaborator. He played a big role in The Social Network. He dated Britney. He's cute. He's a sex symbol.
That's good enough for "icon" status. More of an icon than *gasp* Taylor is.

I agree that this song is safe, but I love it :) Very light and fun, and perfect for this time of the year!
I'm hoping for a #1 debut!

This is probably my least favourite Jason Derülo song since It Girl. Does it feature Adam Levine? Uhh....

Well, obviously. Justin will go down as a legend when it's all said and done. He's universally loved and always on top. Usher is beyond forgotten. Justin's the bigger star, more successful, has the bigger career, and will be much more remembered. Usher is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things... nobody really cares about him. He took a 3-year break after Confessions and bombed. 10 million to 1 million. Worse than Breakaway to My December. Each of his albums since has flopped to a different degree. He never truly made his mark, which is why he's not an R&B legend like R. Kelly, just an R&B icon, and because he's always been a huge trend hopper, all of his hits with the exception of one are forgotten.

Usher is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things... nobody really cares about him. girl no Usher is still relevant, he had a solid hit with I Don't Mind last year, which ended at #55 on the 2015 year end chart. And is still a big artist with HUGE impact, more than Justin. I mean, you can still find Yeah being played on radio stations all the time. Plus he has recently featured on a track called Crush by Yuna which has been trending in some places. He also appeared on the remix for Chris Brown's Back To Sleep alongside Zayn.

Kelly, just an R&B icon, and because he's always been a huge trend hopper, all of his hits with the exception of one are forgotten. Someone is surely fuming right now. Gotta give credit to Spree for the setup even if that was not his intent. My own opinion is Usher is as much an r&b icon as Justin is a pop icon. Even with urban fans swearing up and down that he's 'lost it' or 'sold out' by making pop music, he pretty much is still a solid bet on that format - they let that garbage I Don't Mind go #1! So in that sense he is comparable to how Justin can usually can do no wrong for pop. The issue comes in because 1) JT is a mainstream icon and Usher never quite cemented his status like that for the mainstream despite having an objectively equal or even better peak; and 2) said peak for Usher was '97-'04, so Usher honestly just feels old in today's pop world. Justin going in a different direction post-*NSYNC and having that super long break after FS/LS has enabled him to feel 'fresh' to people even though he is really just as old. I do think Usher has lost his way a bit since 2012, mainly because his 'fans' have him very confused as to what they actually want from him. Justin has never and will never have to face the kind of dilemma that Usher found himself in. But if Usher calms down and acts like the icon that he is instead of making weird attempts at being a Snapchat thot he'll be get his dues in the end. Oh, still like this song a lot. Oh! [2] I wanted to say that I felt that Spree's comment kind of missed the point that karatekid was making, which is that Britney (you know, huge iconic superstar all on her own) released a kids' soundtrack song of arguably equal quality and got paid dust. Justin does the same thing and people bow down to it. But I believe that just came down to marketing, or lack thereof; neither Britney nor her label set up Ooh La La to be something. Justin is clearly putting full effort behind this.

Who's had more Hot 100 #1's? 9 for Usher, 4 for Justin. Who's had the highest opening sales week between the two? Usher. Who has the highest selling album between the two? Usher. Who's musical protege has gone further? Justin Bieber vs. Esmee Denters (I think that's her name??) Usher "never truly made his mark"? I'm sure even your beloved JT with take issue with you saying something so far fetched and preposterous.
