Justin Timberlake - Mirrors (#15 in France ; #2 in the US) Never ever heard it anywhere here. Shakira f/ Wyclef Jean - Hips Don't Lie (#1 in France ; #1 in the US) I still can't believe it's her most successful song. I always felt like Whenever, Wherever, Underneath Your Clothes or even Objection were bigger hits. Katy Perry - Hot n Cold (#2 in France ; #3 in the US) I Kissed a Girl was still huge when this song came around so I guess that's why I don't remember it being that big. Were you living under a rock when these songs were around? Especially HDL. That song is the definition of monster hit.

to be fair he lives in france so maybe they weren't as big there Other than "Mirrors," each of those peaked the same or higher suggesting otherwise. Also, this thread is specifically talking about the Hot 100, so it's very US-centric. Hard to talk about how a song felt in the US when you don't live there. Anyway, an actual good example of what this thread is asking for is a song like Daya's "Hide Away." Peaked at #23 on the Hot 100 and had pretty good longevity. Yet for the longest time, I just kept forgetting it existed. No one was taking about it, no one seemed to think it was the next best thing, Daya herself was essentially a non-existent entity in pop culture. Yet the song just kept gaining little by little until it hit its peak. So odd. It was the most non-event hit I've ever seen! Lucky for her, though, as it let to a collaboration with The Chainsmokers, which is currently turning into a smash! Her second single also is getting some attention despite her literally gaining like 7 fans from "Hide Away."

Hips Don't Lie was like the biggest WW hit of 2006. Either that or one of Nelly/Justin's singles. Edit: according to Mediatraffic, it indeed is! www.mediatraffic.de/tracks-2006.htm

Not to mention Shakira is generally a bigger star outside the United States.

"Black & Yellow" by Wiz Khalifa immediately popped in my mind. It didn't feel like a #1 hit. It just felt like a moderate one.

Baby I - Ariana Grande (#21) I'm surprised it made such a peak, probably just had good debut week but fell down fast. I only ever heard it at Dunkin Donuts a couple of times

The kind of song that debuts high and immediately drops.
So this year... Summer Sixteen, that song by Kelly Clarkson.

Pretty much anything by One Direction. I'm not saying they didn't deserve success, but they've had quite a few songs that debut in the Top 10, then plummet afterwards and then their chart movements tend to get erratic (see: Live While We're Young, Best Song Ever, Story of My Life, Drag Me Down, Perfect).
And yet, Sirius XM Hits 1 absolutely adores the band, because the three singles from Made In The A.M. dominated the station even through most of the first half of 2016, and Drag Me Down and Perfect both made #1 on the Weekend Countdown (the former on Halloween 2015 and the latter on January 23 and March 5 of this year), and History peaked at #2 there.

Black Eyed Peas - "Imma Be" I have a #1s playlist - all 1055 Hot 100 #1s in order - although I usually play it on shuffle. Today Imma Be came on and I was like, wait.... really? Ohh yeahhhh. That did happen, didn't it. It just sounded so... like an utterly forgettable and minor blip... in the context of songs like That's The Way Love Goes, Paint It Black, Open Your Heart, The Tide Is High, Dreamlover and even I'm Too Sexy. Cuz I'm Too Sexy was a phenomenon, and sounds ridiculous in an impactful this-is-a-hit way... as terrible as it may or may not technically be. Imma Be just sits there like a poser at the cool kids' table at lunch. So yeah, I agree.

I Don't Mind(#11). I don't know if it was pure streams, but I never heard this at all on radio or hear about this getting good sales I heard the song all the time on the radio. I'm surprised it didn't crack the Top 10; it probably would have if it had a video.

- Far East Movement - "Like A G6" (#1) - This hit #1?!?!?! - Aloe Blacc - "The Man" (#8) - I'm surprised this cracked the Top 20. - Rihanna - "S&M" (#1) - I heard this somewhat on the radio, but it never felt like the biggest song in the country.

- Far East Movement - "Like A G6" (#1) - This hit #1?!?!?! - Rihanna - "S&M" (#1) - I heard this somewhat on the radio, but it never felt like the biggest song in the country. Far East Movement was pretty much everywhere in 2010 with that song. So while some number ones didn't leave much of an impact, I think Like a G6 did. S&M was also in 2010-11. I might have heard the song a bit less, but I do remember it, particularly some of its lyrics which could have several interpretations. For me, I'd say Watch Me, Hit the Quan, and Nasty Freestyle. Never heard them on my radio and the only time I heard them was either on the video countdowns or actively seeking them out on Youtube.

Everything Has Changed by Taylor Swift. I had also thought 22 was a huge hit at the time, but I never even knew there was a fourth single released until I started following the charts since I never heard this.

^ Agree, but you are in the wrong thread.
I think "Latch" by Disclosure and Sam Smith #7 and Bobby Shmurda's Hot Boy #6.

^ Agree, but you are in the wrong thread. I think "Latch" by Disclosure and Sam Smith #7 and Bobby Shmurda's Hot Boy #6. Oh lmfao you're right. I think "Lights" by Ellie Goulding never felt as big as its peak and I was shocked in finished so high on the year-end charts. Love on the Brain really didn't feel like the big hit its Hot 100 peak suggests. New Rules is a weird case where it felt like a big hit until you looked at its sales and streaming numbers.

For me: Fight Song (#6)- The song felt big. But nowhere near #6 big. Like maybe #8 - 9 big but that's it. Cheerleader (#1) - I never heard this song at all during its peak Post To Be (#13) - Not a very memorable song that didn't age very well.

I always thought that Too Close was number 1 for like 13 weeks or something. That song was HUGE and it still is. Yeah I actually would have expected it to be even bigger than it was. I remember it being EVERYWHERE and people basically consider it a classic r&b song now. LMAO I didn't realize I was responding to something that was 2 years old RIP embarrassing I am still leaving it up though.
