Kelly doesn't need to move around to captivate me. Her vocal prowess is enough for me. Who she is as a person just solidified my stanmanship.

I am most definitely team Medicine. I know you guys are gonna drag me (in this bitch) but I do NOT hear a hit in Heat at all. It's like a generic Neon Trees/Kings of Leon/Imagine Dragons song that you hear on WPLJ while you're at the dentist. So...a hit? Also, we all know Kelly's performances of a song tend to improve the more she does them - feeling like she's done Heat more, and thus we have that amazing performance. I also don't think it's fair to compare a fan made video of Medicine at a concert to a highly produced, well-produced staged performance of Heat, coming to the conclusion that the latter translates better live. Let's see Medicine get that kind of production and attention and then decide which translates better live. I saw her perform the full set live in person, at iHeartRadio, and Heat tore the roof off. Medicine did not. I'm judging them on equal footing there. I dunno... I just think she's not selling her uptempos.... if she's just gonna stand there with the mic and bounce around, then she's not really gonna captivate anyone... Here you are. Off you go back to 2003.

Airplay on Hot AC formats is kind of the goal...

“Invincible” had Hot AC hit written all over it. Imagine her releasing “I Forgive You,” catchy but unremarkable, over “Stronger.”

I get the arguments that "Heat" is more commercial and easier to sing live. That said, I get way more excited when "Medicine" comes on. Kelly's most impactful singles haven't been ones that blend into the pop landscape; they're the ones that stand out with some "oomph" ("Since U Been Gone," "Because of You," "Stronger," "Piece By Piece").
"Medicine" is just a much more interesting song to me. The bass line is funky, the pre-chorus and chorus hooks are absolute fire, the bridge breakdown is unlike anything she's had in a single before, and she slays the ad libs at the end. If she raises the "didn't get me high, never got me lit" part up an octave when she performs it live, it would probably translate much better as that's the only part where it really loses momentum in her performances of the song so far.
I don't think "Heat" is a bad single choice. But if "Love So Soft" failed to make the splash necessary to launch this era, I'm not sure how another linear uptempo that's easily forgotten in the grand scheme of her catalog is going to save it. "Medicine," "Meaning of Life," and "Whole Lotta Woman" would make for far more memorable singles.

I know the two songs aren't even remotely similar, but I get 9 to 5 feels during the first verse, first line of Heat - especially the way she rips into it, in the Cracker Barrel performance.....and that is in no way a slam - I friggin' love 9 to 5 :).

I get so lost in that wall of sound in Don't You Pretend. It's positively glorious.

Im team i dont care what she releases as singles, i have an ear orgasm to the album. I wont be involved in discussions over what single appeases some pulse person over the next pulse person tastes. I like what i like! and its basically the entire album
you bitches fume and heave-ho over the difference of two or 3 great songs all day while mama coco enjoys her earbud and meaning of life cd.

Yeah...some people are PRESSED in here. Like, seriously, save your nails.
We're gonna support any damn single she chooses even if it wasn't our pick.

Kelly's most impactful singles haven't been ones that blend into the pop landscape; they're the ones that stand out with some "oomph" ("Since U Been Gone," "Because of You," "Stronger," "Piece By Piece"). The last minute of Heat has more "oomph" than any equivalent minute on Medicine. And you mentioned four songs that are all strikingly and notably dissimilar to one another...while trying to create a common thread. "Medicine" is just a much more interesting song to me. Which is fine, but this continuous reach (particularly from those who are not you I should note) to make the subjective into the objective is tiresome. "Medicine is the new Bodak Yellow meanwhile Heat won't make the Bubbling Under Chart/Medicine cures cancer, Heat causes it" etc. etc. I don't think "Heat" is a bad single choice. But if "Love So Soft" failed to make the splash necessary to launch this era, I'm not sure how another linear uptempo Love So Soft was mid-tempo at most. Medicine shares more in common with it, by almost every metric, than Heat does.

Entertainment Weekly recently ranked the 25 best albums of the year, and Meaning of Life came in at #21. I suspect this is the first of many year-end lists she'll find herself on over the next several weeks.

I definitely think the big hit from the album will be Heat. But with all The Voice promo coming up, I’d almost love for I Don’t Think About You to be the single. Imagine her slaying that on live tv! It would also make more sense to have a slow song for winter and a song called Heat for summer. I never got into Medicine.

I don't hear a hit in "Heat" either, mostly I find the end of the chorus annoying, but it's been talked about as a single for quite a while so who knows. Then again, I've heard some people actually suggesting "Whole Lotta Woman" should be a single and I, just, no, please, Lord, have mercy. I don't think this album has much chance for success anyway, so I guess it doesn't really matter what they choose. WYCTL is the only thing I'd feel certain has potential. Everything else is just by personal preference for me.

Beauty of her being a coach on The Voice, is she can have multiple performances when she gets to the live shows. Singles, covers, deep cuts etc.

Do we have any idea how many of these Cracker Barrel performances she did? I assume we aren't getting another Nashville Session until it's timed with the single release, but the CB ones have been just as good. Hopefully there's a few more CB ones to come, as well--maybe she even did a song there that they didn't cover for the NS set. greedy.mp4

"Rocking and Stockings" features four performances of new music from Clarkson's recently released eighth studio album "Meaning of Life," including her latest hit single, "Love So Soft," as well as "Meaning of Life" and "Heat." It also includes Clarkson's new holiday track "Christmas Eve." From his 2016 holiday album "Glow," Eldredge performs traditional classics, including "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" and "First Noel."
