I wonder why she recorded MOL with her backup singers. It would be better to only have her vocals on the songs. Sometimes I don't know if Kelly sings it or the backup singers.

I love that they are on the whole record, they are incredibly talented and I feel like they are an important part of the album and the era.

Jessi Collins, one of her amazing background singers, talks about it in this interview. Basically Kelly wanted to steer away from the "pop way" of recording on MOL which is doing nearly all their own bgvs. And she wanted the bgvs to sound like their own section. Personally, it's absolutely one of the top things I loved about MOL.

After reading into Taylor Swift's recent story, I was wondering what the case was for Kelly? I assume that RCA owns everything she recorded while being signed to them and now she owns everything that she's recorded since being signed to Atlantic Records. Could someone enlighten me? :)

That looks to be the case.... everything being everything recorded for Kelly Clarkson projects, excluding the soundtracks and special recordings like the Hoda song.

On that note, it's a testament to Kelly's reputation in the industry that her rebuttal towards the claims Clive made about her in his memoir a few years ago went virtually unchallenged (besides Clive himself, anyway) whereas Taylor seems to be facing an uphill battle with her own impassioned letter about Scott Borchetta.
Even the My December debacle (which I contend is one of the messiest pop girl eras ever) and the "Already Gone" / "Halo" drama only helped solidify her brand and earned her some cred in the long run. We'll have to wait and see what effect (if any whatsoever) this latest feud has on Taylor.

I mostly agree, but think her RCA output post-MD, all of which was as decidedly more radio friendly, has all but erased the memory of her rage against the machine.

I have a tendency to listen to the current album usually until the next comes out. So I was utterly struck, in a good way, when my iPhone went on random the other day and I started listening music from all of Kelly's past albums. What treasures.

The Clive/ My December drama also occurred before the era of social media dominance. You didn't have artists and industry pros jumping out left and right on Twitter and Instagram to attack or defend Kelly or Clive in 2007. By the time Clive's memoir came out, both his and Kelly's stars had faded a little. They were nowhere near as prominent then as Taylor and Scooter are now.

Funny enough, after reading the initial "Clive hates MD and gave it a humiliating showcase in Vegas" post that was made on the old Velvet Rope forum (where all the drama started smoking), it was this weird little site called twttr where I could find the only other mentions of the Vegas shenanigans made by some Sony UK execs. I can remember trying to figure the site out back then and then trying to explain what it was to some people. Who knew it would become what it has today? lol

I see that's from back in January. That was around the time when I saw a couple other posts like that on instagram and twitter saying something similar. I could never find them again after the initial time seeing them.
This should mean we'll get the album by at least 2022. ;)

I don't have any particular sound/genre I want for Kelly's next album. I'll take whatever as long as the songs themselves are well-written.
Her pop/rock songs have obviously been her most successful, so I can see why Atlantic would want that since Meaning of Life didn't really land. But she's also run the pop/rock sound into the ground and doesn't really exude the image for it anymore. And if her days of massive commercial success are behind her, why limit her to just one genre?
(But I'd still bop to "Since U Been Gone - Part 11")

I’m here for whatever because I love Kelly. I just want it to be good! However, I would rather them focus on well written and produced songs than worrying about Pop hits. Kelly could release the the best song of her career and CHR would likely ignore it for the most part. She’s too old and doesn’t have the image. Sad but true. Just release great music and continue selling out tours. I guess Atlantic can’t be blamed for trying to get in one last big seller with her show coming up and also the Voice. The exposure is there.

What happened to the more R&B infused route they mentioned some months ago? Her voice fits R&B so well I wouldn't mind a cover album of some of her favorite R&B/Soul records.

I hope she goes back to the pop/rock sound from my favorite albums from her (Breakaway, AIEW & Stronger). The whole R&B/Soul vibe she was going for with MOL didn’t really stick with me personally. If her mainstream commercial success is a thing of the past, then at least make the music that made us KC fans in the 00s to start with.

Probably in the minority but...I'm okay with her going back to pop/rock lol. She just does it so well. And realistically it's her best shot at another pop hit, which I still think she has one or two left in her tbh.

I don't necessarily think that poprock is the key, but a very strong production. AMLT, BOY, AG, MKIA, S(WDKY), CMB and PBP were big / huge hits and not poprock.
She has huge potential, but I believe that her next material has to hit as hard as Demi Lovato's Sorry Not Sorry or a hit song by Bruno Mars / The Weeknd / Sam Smith in order to finally win over the general public. I think people would've been more open to Bad Reputation than Love So Soft f.e. even tho the latter was crazy good.
Btw, I sometimes wonder how the public would've reacted if they released songs like I Want You, Tip of my tongue, Honestly and Take You High as singles aka several missed WTF THIS IS KELLY?-opportunities.
