I was expecting double that for Maxwell. Also, who knew Blink-182 had such a loyal following?

Maxwell has been out of the game too long.

Regardless I expected more for Maxwell. I mean its not like Blink 182's 2011-2016 gap short by any means.

Wow! I thought Maxwell would deliver, but that is still pretty solid considering he hasn't really done any promo or has any hits on iTunes/radio

Ech at Maxwell's numbers. I know urban ac artists aren't as popular as they used to be, but I was expecting at least 100k from him. Maybe with the good reviews his album can sell well in the long term and go at least Gold?

Maxwell has been out of the game too long. There were 8 years between albums when he last released one and he cleared 300k. Between the lead single kind of flopping and sales in general being so poor I didn't think it would do even half the last total, but 100k seemed reasonable.

To me he was the urban version of Barbara Streisand, just quietly and without much hype releasing successful albums over the years with his loyal fanbase always saying we got you each time.

He's an R&B artist in his 40s, so it's not surprising he's getting little airplay outside of Urban AC (he's actually doing better than I expected at Urban), but I still expected at least 75k. He always sold extremely well for an R&B artist who never crossed over, and seemed to have a very devoted fanbase. This makes me wonder how a new Sade album would do.

I'm trying not to be so disappointed in Maxwell's numbers but I can't help but be really bummed out :( Mainly because it's so mystifying - I didn't expect him to match the 313k opening of BLACKsummers'night, but I also was not expecting the drop to be this severe, as I didn't take him to be that reliant on urban for sales and the lead single is #1 on UAC right now. Was I wrong? Has he just not done enough promotion to make more of his fanbase aware that the album is out this week? I'm stumped. I thought he was our male Sade, able to disappear for as long as he wanted because his fans knew whatever he returned with would be solid.

Some of it could also be that his lead single was probably the weakest one (for him) yet. I do like it but can't help seeing the slight decrease in quality. Although imo the worst of Maxwell is still superior than errrbody else. However his singles really arent what sells his music, its the fact that he always brings great music and quality work all the time. In general with the climate that we have in 2016, quality is less seeked out and desired by most people so this shouldn't be too surprising?

Not surprised at Maxwell's numbers. The album market has plummeted massively since his last release and he doesn't have as much support as he used to with the changing landscape of Urban/Rhythmic radio since. Still, he's an Urban AC staple and as long as the album churns out a few more Urban AC hits which crossover slightly to Urban then I can see the album doing ok.

Woops that's disastrous for Maxwell (down 80% from last album). Weird that older r&b acts suffer when many veteran rock acts do very well
I start to think that Janet's Unbreakable was indeed a success right out of the gate. Shame the era wasn't handled very well after.

Why are we looking at Maxwell's 2009 numbers?
It's not part of this decade and the music business has changed completely since then.

Blink's last album was Sept. 2011, less than 5 years.
Blink also had an EP out in Dec 2012. It sold 120+k and sold into 2013 so they'be been around.
Their greatest hits album has been a steady seller the past few years.
Maxwell all but disappeared.

Their greatest hits album has been a steady seller the past few years. Maxwell all but disappeared. The group also featured a major shake up with a lead member leaving. I think it is pretty incredible they are doing upwards of 135,000 in 2016. I was always hoping for a soft 100,000 but I thought it was a long shot. I was gonna settle with 75-90k but this is great. The band was still gone for 3 years and the EP was not even promoted and was just a quiet digital release.

It looks like BMG’s Blink-182 will bring Drake’s unprecedented run at the top of our Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) chart to an end. Indeed, Blink shows even greater momentum as the holiday weekend reaches its red-white-and-blue peak. Let's take a look, based on early sales, at the alt-rockers' formidable new set and 7/1's other top debut, which also happens to mark the return of a veteran act: self-described "progressive-soul" artist Maxwell. Blink-182 (BMG) 135-145k SPS, 125-135k albums Maxwell (Columbia) 55-60k, 50-55k Speaking of returning figures from the '90s, one possible VP contender for Donald Trump, according to reports, is Newt Gingrich. We don't really have a joke about this, but it kinda makes its own gravy. Happy Fireworks and BBQ (or air conditioning and bong) to you and yours. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=301775Wow, 145k for blink now!?!?!?
