Well I heard about this song for the first time today earlier on this forum and since then I've already heard it 3 times on the radio!! Is this getting a radio deal or does radio truly love him that much?! it's a good song, except that horrid backup singer 😂😂😂😂I can't handle that part, I start cracking up when it's a serious song!! It's having a natural climb up the charts. Nothing out of the ordinary. I am shocked to see you not like Rhiannon Giddens but different tastes for different folks. Which does ask the question. What do you guys think of Rhiannon Giddens as a whole based on this song and what you have heard of her voice?

What do you guys think of Rhiannon Giddens as a whole based on this song and what you have heard of her voice? Honestly, I think she has an excellent voice, but it sounds super out of place on this song. The way she sings just a line or two is so awkward, and her style is so diva-ish that it is just not a smooth transition at all between Eric's vocals and hers. Her background vocals are awesome! It is just her individual line on the radio version that I dislike. That being said, I have only heard this song on the radio while I am trying to fall asleep, on my crappy nightstand radio that is super scratchy, so I should probably listen on the internet with headphones before I put my foot too far in my mouth! ;)

Her vocals don't bother me, but I think I would like the song better if she wasn't on it. Doesn't ruin it for me, but I feel like her part is pretty unnecessary.

I am so glad I am not alone in finding Rhiannon's vocals out of place on this song.
At least one of my local terrestrial stations is obsessed with this song and already has it in high rotation - I am not exaggerating when I say I've heard KAW more in the past three weeks than I ever heard Different For Girls (which I didn't hear on terrestrial radio until it was top 10, even with his tour stop in Charlotte). I know Eric's a local guy but I'm already getting burned out on this song, and super fast.
I hope it can have some sort of social impact but I'm pretty much done listening to it for a while.

Eric really wanted her to be featured. So they added her on that verse. But her bgvs certainly should've been enough.

I feel like this has gotten off to a much faster start than Record Year did.

I feel like this has gotten off to a much faster start than Record Year did. In terms of the MB Top 50. Eric is at the 32 day mark. "Kill A Word" has about 30 more spins and 20k in audience more , so it is slightly going faster but it's pretty much evenly paced with "Record Year".

I apologize if this has been covered, but is there two versions of "Kill A Word"? I swear XM The Highway plays one version where Giddens has a small part by herself, and one where she doesnt. Maybe I am just losing my mind, that's always a possiblity with me.

Is this why Giddens is credited, but not the other nobody singing BGVs?

Yeah that's why this 2 time Grammy nominee 1 time winner Rhiannon gets credit.

Picked up the acoustic album from Red Rocks at WalMart this morning. (Not on iTunes)
Amazing. Highly recommend it to everyone. Includes several songs from Mr Misunderstood and covers of Piano Man, Danny's Song, Troubadour, Willin', Like a Rock, and the closer is a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", which I'll be listening to for the next week nonstop. Just incredible.

When I first read the title, I was like... who is Rhiannon Giddens? Then I did a search on Google Images and I legit got excited lol. I love the Carolina Chocolate Drops! Years back I discovered their cover of "Hit Em Up Style" by Blu Cantrell and was obsessed. She has a great voice and pulled off some nice vocals during the live performances I saw of the cover. Anyway, I think she's the best part of this song and I actually love her part and wish it was more prevalent. Otherwise, I can't say I really like this, simply because the song doesn't really do anything for me.

No Listening Party for Mr. Misunderstood: On the Rocks, Live and (Mostly) Unplugged, it comes in at #4 country and #57 top 200 with 9000 sold. Congratulations, Eric Church!

If it was up to me, I'd release Chattanooga Lucy next. That song, while not exactly radio friendly, has huge potential. He's got nothing to lose. If he releases Chattanooga Lucy next and it flops, you follow it up with the sure fire smash Round Here Buzz. Though, if I'm a betting man I'd say it'll be Knives of New Orleans, which is a gem.
Hopefully this one can hit the top of the charts!

Sucks that this song doesn't look like a future chart topper, but man the tour looks great.
First show was in Nebraska last night. 3 hours, 2 full sets and performed a total of 37 songs. Will be incredibly disappointing if Eric doesn't win Entertainer of the year.

The Highway played "Round Here Buzz" this morning. I was thinking for sure they'd let Kill a Word last for a while, to see if maybe it could catch fire considering the strong and extremely relevant message to the song. But looks like I may be wrong. I bet if Kill a Word ended up being a #1 smash then they'd have gone with something not so radio friendly like Lucy or Knives as the next single. (Assuming RHB is next which I'm sure it is). Round Here Buzz is an easy smash though and would be shocked if it didn't go #1. Then I would imagine they'd follow that up with an up tempo like the 2 I mentioned above.

The label is still promoting it so it's not over yet. I'll explain later how this song is doing

I'm totally here for "Round Here Buzz". Should have been a single already. Easy #1 in my opinion.

The Highway frequently plays what are planned to be the next singles, weeks in advance, so the fact they started now with "Round Here Buzz" is no surprise. They did briefly play "Kill A Word" when the album dropped in late 2015, along with "Three Year Old." "Kill A Word" still has life left in it.

This song does still have some life left in it as Eric Church & Rhiannon Giddens have gained 335 spins the past 12 days. While the past 12 days they have gained a little under 2700k in MB audience. Nothing outstanding but it is evident that the song still has life left in it

"Power Up" ad from EMI Nashville in Country Aircheck tonight. UMG sent out a "Power Up" ad tonight for "Dirt On My Boots" as well. Pardi's is a contender for #1 (more like a lock), while Eric's...maybe. I do think this can get higher but it's already racked up 22 weeks charting on Billboard and this song, while I adore it, seems like it can wear on listeners/programmers alike. EMI might be pressured into getting this to peak sooner rather than later, we'll see. EMI wants top 10 conversions though.
