#40-#31Now we go into the top 40 songs of 2016!#40: If Love Was A Crime - Poli GenovaWeeks: 15 Peak: 1 (1 week) Points: 1,815,750 Notes: Here you go Leo ✔! This was my favorite song from Eurovision 2016 (although Amir's "J'ai Cherché" wound up higher on the YE chart due to its longevity), and I was very happy when it finished fourth (My favorite performance and who I wanted as the winner was "1944" by Jamala, but this was my favorite as a song). Although the song is primarily in English, the Bulgarian in the song adds a nice touch to the song. I loved it so much that it even knocked off Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling!" from the summit to reach #1, and if knew how much I love JT, you would know how difficult it is to knock off JT from #1. The performance: #39: We Don't Talk Anymore - Charlie Puth feat. Selena GomezWeeks: 25* Peak: 6 Points: 1,865,700 Notes: I really like this song because of the breezy tropical house in the track and also its subtlety, especially in Selena's part. This became Charlie Puth's first top 10 as a lead artist. I feel like I like tropical house songs that are more toned down, like this one and Jonas Blue's rendition of "Fast Car" (or even "What Do You Mean?" but that one is more upbeat, even though I think it has a more somber vibe) but don't particularly like very upbeat tropical house ("Cheerleader"). #38: Middle - DJ Snake feat. Bipolar SunshineWeeks: 23 Peak: 1 (1 week) Points: 1,884,900 Notes: While "Let Me Love You" was the bigger hit of the two in the real world, I prefer "Middle" so much more. I like pretty much everything about the song, especially the vocals which I think fits in pretty well with the song. This became DJ Snake's second #1 after his collaboration with Major Lazer, "Lean On", went #1 last year. #37: I Got The Boy - Jana KramerWeeks: 21 (charted for 11 more weeks in 2015) Peak: 1 (1 week) Points: 1,890,150 Notes: I didn't really get into this song until around when it peaked on country radio. It's such a good traditional-leaning country song, and I'm glad it became another success for Jana, especially after everything after "Why Ya Wanna" didn't fare too well. This song was part of the big string of country #1s at the beginning of the year before Mike Posner's "I Took a Pill in Ibiza (SeeB Remix)" took over. #36: Rough - GFriendWeeks: 12* Peak: 1 (1 week) Points: 1,903,500 Notes: This was one of the biggest songs, if not the biggest, song of South Korea in 2016. GFriend is quickly becoming one of the biggest K-pop groups, and this along with their single before this one, "Me Gustas Tu", helped propel them to this position. I like that the song is catchy but at the same time has a slightly sad feel to it. I think the lyrics match up really well with the vibe of the song, and that along with its catchiness had me hooked. #35: New Romantics - Taylor SwiftWeeks: 21 (charted for 1 more week in 2014) Peak: 1 (2 weeks) Points: 1,944,600 Notes: This was Taylor's seventh and last single from 1989, and it set a new record of 7 consecutive #1 singles from one album on my chart. However, this was her least successful single from that album probably because I had Taylor fatigue from playing her songs so much from late 2014 all through 2015. Also, I didn't like it as much as her other singles to begin with, which was that way from when I first listened to the deluxe edition of the album back in 2014. I wasn't too big of a fan of the shouting chorus, but I grew to like it in the end. It does feel good to shout the chorus out while singing along to this song! #34: Different For Girls - Dierks Bentley feat. Elle KingWeeks: 29* Peak: 4 Points: 1,983,450 Notes: After a decent-sized hit with "Somewhere on a Beach" on my chart, he returned with this song which I absolutely loved. This became his biggest hit so far on my chart, even eclipsing "Drunk on a Plane". #33: Russian Roulette - Red VelvetWeeks: 14* Peak: 1 (1 week) Points: 2,005,000 Notes: All the songs from here on out all earned 2 million points this chart-year. The first song I'm presenting on this countdown that did so was K-pop group Red Velvet's "Russian Roulette" which came out in September. On top of it being catchy, I was drawn to this song because of the music video. The music video's very colorful and looks very bright, but the darkness in the music video where the members try to kill or harm each other. I love the contrast between the darkness in the music video with the song itself too! #32: Hands To Myself - Selena GomezWeeks: 22 Peak: 5 Points: 2,025,600 Notes: This is up there with "Same Old Love" as my favorite Revival single. I really like Selena's vocals in her songs this era, which I feel is more subtle than her previous stuff, and I think style suits Selena pretty well (I also do like and want more stuff like "Come & Get It" though). #31: 7 Years - Lukas GrahamWeeks: 23 (charted for 1 more week in 2015) Peak: 7 Points: 2,037,300 Notes: I first listened to this song when it was taking off in Europe after I had become big in Sweden, and I thought it was a pretty good song. Songs like this one or One Direction's "Night Changes" makes me realize how fast time flies. I didn't actually like the sound aspect of the song, but the lyrics made up for it.

Great round of songs, but nothing can compares with Poli Genova. I loved the song since it was released, and the first teasers of her presentation was a little disapointed for me. I asked why she's wearing a light dress, but when the final performance was come, she looked gorgeous and great Also in the final, when she starts with a smile, that moment!!!! THAT MOMENT OMG!!!! Pure love

#30-#21Now we're looking at songs that were really big this year! #30: This Girl - Kungs vs. Cookin' On 3 BurnersWeeks: 32 Peak: 4 Points: 2,157,900 Notes: Along with Jonas Blue, Kungs was another artist who made it big on my chart this year, with both of them having multiple platinum-certified hits this year. This song was his first hit on my chart, and it was certified double-platinum. The trumpet drop is very infectious, although I feel like he's overused it so much now ("Don't You Know", "I Feel So Bad") that it's starting to sound not as fresh as when I first heard this song. I was actually surprised when this became a decent sized hit in the US, but I'm happy that it did and I wish it could've been bigger! #29: NAVILLERA - GFriendWeeks: 13* Peak: 1 (1 week) Points: 2,188,200 Notes: GFriend and TWICE were the only K-pop acts to net two #1s on my chart this year as well as have two songs on the year-end countdown. This reached #1 right after "Rough" did, and it actually dethroned "Rough" to become #1 back in October. This was the first time an artist replaced their own song at #1 since Taylor Swift reached #1 with "Blank Space", sending "Shake It Off" down from the summit down to #4 in late 2014. It's a very energetic track but still different enough from their previous single "Rough", and I loved this song because of that. #28: Too Good - Drake feat. RihannaWeeks: 27* Peak: 5 Points: 2,191,950 Notes: I think Drake and Rihanna have chemistry together collaboration-wise because the 4 collaborations they've done were all awesome! After "Work" I expected a Drake featuring Rihanna collaboration and I was waiting, but it came so soon and it did not disappoint. Similar to "One Dance", the beat was what made me really like the song. #27: Lush Life - Zara LarssonWeeks: 46 (charted for 12 more weeks in 2015) Peak: 2 Points: 2,211,000 Notes: This became one of my favorite summer songs ever. It's just perfect! The Now I've found another crush The lush life's given me a rush Had one chance to make me blush Second time is one too lateis so catchy! It had originally peaked at #7 in 2015, but re-peaked this year at #2 behind a song that she was featured on ("This One's for You" by David Guetta), and the longevity allowed the song to go triple platinum! I haven't really been a fan of her stuff after this and "Never Forget You" like "Ain't My Fault" and "I Would Like" but hopefully she comes back with more stuff that I like! #26: Out Of The Woods - Taylor SwiftWeeks: 20 (charted for 5 more weeks in 2014) Peak: 1 (1 week, had one more week at #1 in 2014 when it was released as a promotional single) Points: 2,248,350 Notes: I loved this song so much! When it came out as a promotional single back in 2014 , it debuted at #1, dethroning Sam Hunt's "Leave the Night On" which was massive at the time. It earned enough points in 2014 that it was #93 on my 2014 year-end chart. This became the first song ever to appear in 2 nonconsecutive year-end charts (2014 and 2016). The repetition of "Are we out of the woods?" and "Are we in the clear yet?" I really liked and the "good!" at the end of the chorus is very fun too. #25: Night's On Fire - David NailWeeks: 43 (charted for 19 more weeks in 2015) Peak: 5 Points: 2,262,450 Notes: This song first charted in August 2015, but it took forever to take off and reached its final peak of #5 in July. It actually looked like it peaked at #11, but it had another surge and reached the top 5. I was sad when this stalled outside the top 10 on country radio and didn't go #1 like his previous lead single "Whatever She's Got" did because he's one of the artists I actively root for. #24: Setting The World On Fire - Kenny Chesney feat. P!nkWeeks: 20* Peak: 5 Points: 2,278,650 Notes: After "Noise" stalled at #28 o the weekly chart, I was excited but nervous at the same time with his collaboration with P!nk. I'm glad this turned out to be a great song because I realized that I like Kenny Chesney's music more than I thought I did. I think Kenny and P!nk complement each other pretty nicely! I listened to his new album, but some of the songs ("Trip Around the Sun" and "All the Pretty Girls" especially) I really liked, so I'm looking forward to what will come this era. The next single "Bar at the End of the World" doesn't sound bad either. #23: Make You Miss Me - Sam HuntWeeks: 40 Peak: 1 (1 week) Points: 2,300,100 Notes: One of my favorites from Montevallo, this became his 4th #1 from this album ("House Party" was the only one that didn't reach #1, peaking at #5). It was a nice change of pace after 4 consecutive uptempos. I know Sam's new material is still a little bit down the road, but I'm really excited for where he's headed next! As a fan of both country and top 40 music, I'm really intrigued by how he blends these genres together. #22: Very Very Very - I.O.IWeeks: 9* Peak: 1 (3 weeks) Points: 2,332,500 Notes: This was one of the two monster K-pop #1s towards the end of the year (the other one is still ahead in this countdown), but it only had 9 weeks count towards this YE chart, so it ended up in this position, even though it's impressive that it was able to be here in the countdown with just 9 weeks' worth of points. This is super catchy, and I just couldn't get it out of my head for at least about a month. #21: J'ai Cherché - AmirWeeks: 31* Peak: 4 Points: 2,347,650 Notes: With a catchy pop song that is in both English and French, this is the highest-ranked song on the countdown from songs that competed in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. I prefer the Eurovision version to the original version, so I have that video below this commentary. While this wasn't the song that stood out to me (this debuted at #13 behind 5 other Eurovision songs), this one had longevity, and Amir now has a second hit (which just hit #1 on my weekly chart!) on his hands, which is a difficult thing for Eurovision stars to do. The performance: * denotes that the song is still charting.

#20-#11Onto the top 20 songs of the year!#20: Stay A Little Longer - Brothers OsborneWeeks: 21 (charted for 1 more week in 2015) Peak: 1 (2 weeks) Points: 2,376,000 Notes: Brothers Osborne was also one of the acts that made it big on my charts this year. They were one of the several acts who had multiple #1s (the others being Taylor Swift, Sam Hunt, TWICE, GFriend) this year, and both songs they sent to #1 were pretty big. I didn't really like their previous single "Rum", but this one I loved it from first listen. The guitar outro in this song is really cool too! #19: Youth - Troye SivanWeeks: 26 Peak: 2 Points: 2,384,000 Notes: I didn't really expect to like this song when I first listened to this song because it was moving up top 40 radio at that point. Super catchy song, and the lyrics kind of resonated with me because I'm the kind of person who worries about the smallest things. Sometimes it's nice to let go and have fun, and that's okay! As much as I wanted to push this song to #1, there was just too much competition at the time, and this one ended up getting the short end of the stick, being blocked from #1 by Alan Walker's "Faded". #18: From The Ground Up - Dan + ShayWeeks: 41 Peak: 4 Points: 2,390,550 Notes: I was in love with this song after a few listens. I've always liked Dan + Shay's material (I wasn't really on board with "Show You Off" but still), but this one took my feelings towards them to another level. Now I'm actually looking forward to new material from them! This became their first top 10 since "19 You + Me" peaked at #7 back in 2014, and became their biggest hit to date by far. #17: Fire In The Rain - Måns ZelmerlöwWeeks: 31* Peak: 1 (1 week) Points: 2,417,850 Notes: This is the highest ranked Eurovision related song in this countdown, and it comes from last year's winner and one of this year's hosts, Måns Zelmerlöw. I think I like this better with "Heroes" tbh... His performance at this year's Eurovision was interesting though, people appeared on hoverboards... The performance: #16: Die A Happy Man - Thomas RhettWeeks: 27 (charted for 11 more weeks in 2015) Peak: 1 (2 weeks, spent 1 more week at #1 in 2015) Points: 2,455,800 Notes: Thomas Rhett was on a roll since "Make Me Wanna" hit #1 up until this song (and then "T-Shirt" peaked at #29 and "Vacation" didn't chart at all), having had 3 consecutive songs that went to #1 ("Make Me Wanna", "Crash And Burn", and then this song). This sweet song ultimately spent three weeks at #1 and racked up over 3.6 million points, of which he earned 2.45 million in the 2016 chart year. #15: Dibs - Kelsea BalleriniWeeks: 25 (charted for 22 more weeks in 2015) Peak: 2 Points: 2,559,900 Notes: This was the song that made Kelsea Ballerini really big on my chart. "Love Me Like You Mean It" was good, but didn't help Kelsea win me over as an artist. This fun and lighthearted track made me really like her and check out her whole album! It got held at #2 for three consecutive weeks behind Taylor Swift's "Out of the Woods" and Carrie Underwood's "Heartbeat" and never reached #1, but she got her revenge when her next single, "Peter Pan" reached #1 later in the year. #14: Work From Home - Fifth Harmony feat. Ty Dolla $ignWeeks: 25 Peak: 4 Points: 2,573,700 Notes: They became big with "Worth It" from 2015, and this only made them bigger. Although "Worth It" peaked higher (#2 vs. #4), this one had a slower burn rate for me. This came out a little bit after Rihanna's "Work" came out, and I was worried that it would be overshadowed by it, but this turned out fine and did really well! #13: Heartbeat - Carrie UnderwoodWeeks: 27 Peak: 1 (2 weeks) Points: 2,583,000 Notes: The melody is what I love about this song! Also, I think Carrie and Sam Hunt's voice go pretty well together. I actually didn't know that Sam Hunt did background vocals for this song until when I saw it somewhere I can't remember... I like it so much that I would put it in one of my top 3 favorite Carrie Underwood songs... On country radio, it became Carrie's first Billboard #1 in over three years! #12: Closer - The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey Weeks: 21* Peak: 1 (1 week) Points: 2,612,550 Notes: I didn't really like this song on first listen, but it grew on me tremendously and became my favorite The Chainsmokers song. Love the drop, the "Baby pull me closer in the backseat of your Rover..." to the "we ain't never getting older" part just sticks in your brain! It barely missed out on making the top 10 on the YE chart, and actually if the chart cutoff was two weeks later, it would've made the top 10... #11: Work - Rihanna feat. DrakeWeeks: 23 Peak: 1 (1 week) Points: 2,613,900 Notes: When Rihanna released this, my honest reaction was like "What in the world is this? All she says is 'work'..." but it got stuck in my head after a while! It took over a month for it to reach the top 10, which is rare for a Rihanna lead single, but it went all the way to #1 in the end. This one had a dancehall influence, and Rihanna never ceases to amaze me with her versatility. She can do songs like "Take a Bow" or "California King Bed" to "Umbrella" to "We Found Love" or "Where Have You Been" to this. I think it's one of the reasons she's been so successful for such a long time. * denotes that the song is still charting.

Wow I had no idea there are so many all-girl K-pop groups out there. I guess it's a bigger thing than I knew it was! The ones I listen to are the more successful ones, so there are far more than the ones I have here! I feel like girl groups are a pretty big thing in East Asia (at least what I've seen from South Korean and Japanese music which are the East Asian music that I listen to, but for some reason I like South Korean girl groups but not Japanese ones). However, one of the groups I have on the YE list, I.O.I (with "Very Very Very" at #22) is a group that will only last a year and is disbanding next month :'(

#10-#6I'm going to divide the top 10 into two parts and this is part 1!!!#10: 21 Summer - Brothers OsborneWeeks: 39 Peak: 1 (1 week) Points: 2,765,550 Notes: We begin today with Brothers Osborne again! I loved listening to this song outside this past summer (it's such a great song to listen to outside on a sunny summer day). Nostalgia is an interesting thing to make a song about, and I think it fit very well with the overall instrumentation of the song, and takes the song to another level imo. It's a very pleasant listen, and I recommend listening to this song if you haven't already! #9: CHEER UP - TWICEWeeks: 17* Peak: 1 (2 weeks) Points: 3,018,600 Notes: This year, we had 9 songs that got over 3 million points. One of them was a K-pop song by a relatively new girl group called TWICE (they debuted in October 2015). At first, I really loved the way the verses and the bridge went, but I thought the chorus was a bit boring. However, I got over that and became obsessed with this song. This was one of the songs that really pulled me into K-pop. It probably will be a staple on my chart from now on because of the K-pop explosion this fall. #8: Perfect Strangers - Jonas Blue feat. JP CooperWeeks: 27* Peak: 3 Points: 3,049,500 Notes: I was in love with this song from the moment I heard it and I didn't really get sick of it either. It had a relatively lengthy stay in the top 10 as well as had longevity within the top 30. This longevity helped the song rank in this year's top 10 songs even though it didn't reach #1 on the weekly chart. In fact, this is the only song in this year's top 10 that didn't reach the summit on a weekly chart! As for the song itself, I think it's a great summer song! #7: This One's For You - David Guetta feat. Zara LarssonWeeks: 27 Peak: 1 (3 weeks) Points: 3,103,050 Notes: Football/soccer songs tend to make it big on my chart, and this one followed suit. I love the song's anthemic feel and Zara Larsson's soaring vocals. Listening to this always pumped me up for watching EURO games, and I think it was a pretty good choice for the EURO 2016 theme song. Coincidentally, the last football/soccer song that made it really big also was #7 on a year-end chart; Shakira's song for the 2014 World Cup, "La La La (Brazil 2014)" featuring Carlinhos Brown, was #7 on the 2014 year-end chart with 4.338 million points. #6: Cold Water - Major Lazer feat. Justin Bieber & MØWeeks: 21* Peak: 1 (2 weeks) Points: 3,298,500 Notes: I feel like I like this song way more than a lot of other people do, and I don't know what it is about this song, but I love it! I just think the drop is really catchy, and while I think "Lean On" is the better song, I sometimes like this song more than "Lean On" (it flips from time to time). While I was looking up the song for images to use on this countdown, I finally found out that Ed Sheeran was one of the co-writers of this song, which I didn't know until now! * denotes that the song is still charting.

#5-#1Now for the grand reveal... The top 5 songs of the year!#5: Peter Pan - Kelsea BalleriniWeeks: 41* Peak: 1 (2 weeks) Points: 3,952,050 Notes: We begin with a country song again, and this time it's Kelsea Ballerini's "Peter Pan". I absolutely love this song, and it became Kelsea's first song to hit #1 after having come close twice with "Love Me Like You Mean It" (#3) and "Dibs" (#2). It is already her biggest hit and is on course to become her first quadruple platinum hit. #4: Think Of You - Chris Young Duet With Cassadee PopeWeeks: 47* Peak: 1 (2 weeks) Points: 4,011,600 Notes: Chris and Cassadee's voices go really well with each other, and this duet was very well executed! Chris Young definitely has won me over with the I'm Comin' Over era. His single choices have been great, and all of them were very good songs! This is the highest ranked country song on this countdown, and it ties Brett Eldredge's "Beat of the Music" for the highest rank attained on a year-end countdown by a country song (that is not from Taylor Swift). #3: Faded - Alan WalkerWeeks: 50* Peak: 1 (4 weeks) Points: 4,083,150 Notes: This is the biggest song from an artist who charted from the first time this year. I listened to this song when it was #1 in Sweden for the first time, I liked the song from the get go. As a result, it debuted at #8 on my chart at the beginning of 2016, which is really rare for an artist's first entry on the chart unless it was fueled by a movie etc. It slid down the chart in the following weeks, but it rebounded and went on to spend a total of 4 weeks at #1, which is the second longest reign at #1 on my chart this year. #2: This Is What You Came For - Calvin Harris feat. RihannaWeeks: 33* Peak: 1 (1 week) Points: 4,189,500 Notes: I remember when this got released, I was really excited to hear it and was slightly disappointed in the song. I tend to like harder drops when it comes to EDM stuff, but this one has a very soft and mellow drop. However, with repeated listens, I became super obsessed with this song. I like Rihanna's vocals during the verses, and I came to really like the drop as well. When it first came out, I liked their previous collaboration "We Found Love" better, but now I like both pretty equally. Each of them has its strong points, but they're so different from each other, so it's kind of hard to compare. #1: Can't Stop The Feeling! - Justin TimberlakeWeeks: 32* Peak: 1 (5 weeks) Points: 4,891,500 Notes: Aaaaaaaand the #1 song of the year is Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling!"!!! It debuted at #1, and was one of the only two songs to debut at #1 in the 2016 chart-year, with the other one being Zayn and Taylor Swift's "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" which debuted at #1 on the last chart week of 2016. Then it stayed in the top 2 for 9 weeks, and has not fallen out of the top 40 up to this point. This becomes Justin Timberlake's second year-end #1, with 2013's "Mirrors" wound up at #1 on the 2013 YE chart, narrowly beating out Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble.". It is the only song to come close to 5x platinum this year (which this song should reach in the coming weeks), and compared to the #1 song last year, Ellie Goulding's "Love Me Like You Do", it got significantly less points (4,891,500 vs. 6,353,100). While this song wasn't anything new tbh, this was a feel-good song that lifts you up. I feel like "Happy" and "Uptown Funk!" were in this vein as well, but CSTF was more to my liking than the other two, and therefore became a big hit on my chart! * denotes that the song is still charting. Thank you for following this countdown, and please check out my weekly chart if you have time! The link to the newest chart at this point is pulsemusic.proboards.com/post/5963029/thread!

How dare those chumps pick this as Worst Song of 2016! Yeah, I don't think CSTF is a bad song by any means. I saw that you had it in your year-end chart too :) I wonder what their reasoning was behind it...

I guess they found CSTF to be really repetitive or something. But anyway, glad it's the number one on your year-end! I love that song; it's so fun! :)
