Just like "The Greatest," I'm in love and obsessed on first listen. Also, the "oh I oh I oh I oh I oh I" part reminds me of "No Diggity." I really like this on first listen. I can see the recent Sia comparisons, but it retains a more singer-songwriter vibe too. It actually reminds me of a modernized vibe of John Mayer's dabs into full-pop territory on Heavier Things back in the day. I was thinking more along the lines of a modernized Waiting for My Rocket to Come, but essentially, yeah.

This is going to smash harder than "Castle On The Hill" but with strong sales and being available for streaming, I can see them both debuting in the top 15.

Sorry if this was already answered, but I'm not going through 4 pages of comments. Which single is being promoted to Pop Radio?

I don't like it, but i didn't like it Sing at all at first listen, so expect to get used with more listens. Anyway, i think it's going to be a big hit for Ed.
And i think he is on the big leagues now with Bruno and Justin

Sorry if this was already answered, but I'm not going through 4 pages of comments. Which single is being promoted to Pop Radio? Apparently this one. It's off to a faster start on iTunes and Youtube as well.

Also, the "oh I oh I oh I oh I oh I" part reminds me of "No Diggity." THANK YOU! I told Codex that the song sounds like an old rap hit, but couldn't quite remember which one. It's funny considering he has a well-know cover of the song.

Sorry if this was already answered, but I'm not going through 4 pages of comments. Which single is being promoted to Pop Radio? Seems that Atlantic is pushing both, based on the service notice I got earlier. "Check out these brand new singles from Ed Sheeran, "Castle On The Hill" and "Shape Of You"
Please note that both these tracks are considered to be of equal importance and we encourage you to add both! A double A-side as it were."

Totally irrelevant, but Jamaican radio has been eating this song up all day. Haven't seen this level of immediate airplay since Hello's first few days.

The only format I see "Castle" doing better on is Triple A now that Hot AC is just a slower Pop format. But that's probably the point. To not completely turn off the fans who want that sound from him.

I personally prefer this song to the other, but both are absolutely fantastic, and while I do get "The Greatest" vibes from that beat, I don't see it as watered down at all, considering the lyrics have always been where Ed shines for me.

I am a little surprised that this seems to be polarizing...I really liked it on first listen. I don't necessarily think about whether a song is a "step in a new direction" for an artist, or shows growth, or whatever. Maybe in the long run I think that way, but I just know I like the sound of this and the flow of his lyrics over the track. Which yes, does kinda sound a little reminiscent of Don't Wanna Know now that people are saying that...

Is that the highest WW daily total ever?

I wish people would stop making mashups of this and Cheap Thrills, it's E major not A major, The Greatest would be much better.. Anyway, still has a huge lead on iTunes in a lot of countries.
United States: 1. Shape Of You (1.0000) 2. Castle on the Hill (0.8384) 3. I Don't Wanna Live Forever (0.1642)
United Kingdom: 1. Shape Of You (1.000) 2. Castle on the Hill (0.9181) 3. Rag'n'Bone Man (0.1390)
Ireland: 1. Shape Of You (1.000) 2. Castle on the Hill (0.9658) 3. Rockabye (0.1254)
Australia: 1. Shape Of You (1.000) 2. Castle on the Hill (0.9219) 3. Play That Song (0.2214)
Canada: 1. Shape Of You (1.000) 2. Castle on the Hill (0.7844) 3. I Don't Wanna Live Forever (0.1129)

I don't see a comparison between Shape Of You and The Greatest Also I really like the song it's simple but catchy.
On a Side note: I need an Ed Sheeran and Dua Lipa collab in my life they would sound great together.

THANK YOU. I wish bedroom remixers had an inkling of basic music theory before attempting to create horrific discordant mashups where the keys don't even match.

On first listen I was a bit hesitant to say I liked it, but now I'm really feeling this song! Nice, catchy song that fits in with the current trend with its tropical house influences.

I don't see a comparison between Shape Of You and The Greatest I like this song, but you cannot deny the similarities between the two. The audio is pitched up for copyright reasons on YouTube, but you get the gist.

Also, I think it was a MAJOR mistake in not having an established female vocalist (Rihanna would've KILLED) for this part
Say, boy, let's not talk too much Grab on my waist and put that body on me Come on now, follow my lead Come, come on now, follow my lead
It would have still been mostly Ed so people wouldn't think he needed to rely on other artists for a hit (he doesn't) but still had enough of a feature vibe to make it more exciting and fun. Just my opinion. Still love the song overall though.
