Slightly off-topic, but how the hell hasn't Body Moves by DNCE crossed over yet? It's currently #2 on the Dance Club charts, so it's not like it's not popular. The song is amazing, and I really want it to chart.

Interesting that radio is still looking at digital singles sales instead of streaming numbers: hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=304539UMG and WMG are employing the strategy of sale pricing iTunes singles at $.69 for a limited time to increase airplay, because radio programmers continue to closely watch the iTunes charts (Sony has also done so, but far less frequently). This gambit has some hypothesizing about a possible parallel within Spotify when the service begins to offer the paid-tier only option. Specifically, will it be possible to move a single from the paid tier to the free tier in order supercharge the streaming number, and then move it back to premium again once the goal has been met? Streams measure how often people listen to particular songs at home and at work—a relatively new measuring stick, and an increasingly important one. Concurrently, the iTunes charts have assumed a decreasing value as streaming becomes the primary mode of experiencing music. At some point, one would expect the gatekeepers at radio to get the message and begin to study the biggest Spotify playlists as well as iTunes in their decision-making.

Yeah, they definitely need to be paying more attention to Spotify than iTunes for today's biggest hits.

I think it's really interesting that labels are looking at ITunes instead of Spotify. My gut reaction was "look at Spotify! That's where people are going to listen to music". However, I think labels are looking at this purely as a money making decision. Labels make more money off of digital sales vs spotify streaming so why not put their efforts into the songs that sell well. I don't think that the scales have tipped yet where streaming makes more money for the record labels than digital songs. That will happen in the future but right now it makes sense to tap into the market where they can have larger capital gains.

I don't even think radio looks at iTunes because there have definitely been songs that sold well and still got limited airplay.

The song is amazing, and I really want it to chart. It's long since peaked on pop. It peaked at #28 on the pop airplay chart back in mid-November. Fell off early December. And usually, songs peak at #1 on Dance Club after they've flopped, so that's not a good sign. There's like a new #1 every week and 90% of them are flops.

If I'm not wrong, if Closer is #5 or #6 in this week it'll jump to #15 of the decade. If it's #4 or higher, will dethrone Dark Horse as 2010's 14th biggest hit and enter GOAT chart. Impressive.

How do you think, US will accept 'Rockabye' as a next hit or not?

The results used to be tabulated by surveying a bunch of DJs across the country. I'm not sure if that has changed but it certainly does NOT represent much.

How do you think, US will accept 'Rockabye' as a next hit or not? It's #25 on Top 40 radio. But, it's Hot 100 position...

^So which is better?
#51?
or #25?
What makes a song a hit nowadays?
The Hot 100 position?
Or the radio position?
Then we have to add in the streaming component.
The charts are too complicated. LOL

LOL The original question was if the US would accept it as a hit (it's been huge on several countries already, including the UK where it's been a multiple week #1). The way it's performing on radio, iTunes and streaming would seem to indicate that yes, it's going to be a hit. #51 and still increasing, with one of the biggest bullets on the Pop radio chart seems promising. Also a hit is a very subjective concept, but I'd think it's a song that had a good chart run with a high-ish peak and/or longevity.

Rockabye is top 15 on the Canadian Hot 100, and top 10 on Canadian iTunes. I think that's a good sign.

Rockabye is most likely to perform very well, only situation I can say that could stop it is like if it suddenly went down on airplay which happened to This Girl last year But that's a rare situation so I think all will go well
