I don't see anything in your reply. That was a mistake. What I meant to say was that the reason Paul Grein gave wasn’t good enough. People‘s music shouldn’t be judged or appreciated based on their skin color or origin, it should be based on content and reception. Of course that's true, but then R&B and hip-hop artists have been saying that for years as they consistently lose in the big categories to white acts like U2, Adele, Green Day, Coldplay, Beck, and Taylor Swift.

Yeah, Ed wouldn’t draw in millions. He’s popular, but he doesn’t attract a core group of fans. Pop music listeners are going to tune in whether he’s there or not.
Lorde not being invited is weird. Even if there was some sort of political drive behind her only getting 1 nom, that 1 nom is for Album of the Year. Feels a bit offensive to not offer her anything.
Having said all of that, we are all aware that the GRAMMY Whisperer is about as helpful and engaging as lint on a lollipop.

She wouldn't be the first nominee in a major category to not perform, though. And it's still possible she will be asked, especially if people are turning them down.

When was the last time someone had an AOTY nomination, and had zero outside of that?

That doesn’t make any of the previous examples any less shitty. It’s just another offensive move.

But it surely did not happen since 2010.

I think that complicates things a bit. I know when Green Day's only nomination was ROTY they didn't perform. Meanwhile, I don't think twenty one pilots performed last year despite 3 nominations including ROTY.

I know when Green Day's only nomination was ROTY they didn't perform. Meanwhile, I don't think twenty one pilots performed last year despite 3 nominations including ROTY. Billie Joe Armstrong did Present that year, so there's that. It is weird for TOP because they actually won one of their awards. And so did Green Day that year. lol It was very shocking TOP did not perform last year as they were very popular with many awards. but it seems even more shocking to me to see AOTY nominees not performing as that is the biggest award of the night and while select artists don't always perform, it's bizarre when they leave out AOTY. Especially with the whole Female power aspect going on in the media... and even more shocking to me is the fact that a Lorde performance could easily attach many of the other big General nominees. SZA and Khalid (Who are already performing, yes, but it is just strange)

if anything, lorde getting aoty nom was the political one, not her zero nominations. pop filed is purely based on vote unlike generals or other genres. so she was simply wasn't in top 5 vote in pop song, pop album or any other.
also in fact, think about the history, it's not weirdo thing. there were many artists who didn't perform with general nominations this is the name of artists who got AOTY/SPTY/ROTY nominations and didn't perform.
2017: Rihanna, Drake, Justin Biber, Twenty One Pilots, Mike Posner 2016: Mark Ronson/Bruno mars, D'Angelo, D'Angelo, Ed Sheeran, Little Big Town, Wiz Khalifa/Charlie Puth 2015: Iggy Azalea/Charli XCX, Meghan Trainor 2014: Bruno Mars 2013: Gotye/Kimbra, Kelly Clarkson(only tribute), Carly Rae Jepsen, Ed Sheeran 2012: Bon Iver, Mumford & Sons, Lady Gaga, Kanye West

I like that, except neither Maren or Eric are nominated. They couldn't get another nominee as part of the tribute? I'm surprised Keith Urban isn't part of it.

Maren is nominated for country solo performance Wow I missed that. It's an impressive nom since that song hadn't done anything at the point of voting for nominees. Does Eric Church have a nom I missed?

Lorde / SZA / Khalid DYNAMITE remix 5. Uzi vert and Julia mash up 6. 1-800 suicide awareness performance 7. Foo fighters 8. Bruno mars and cardi b 9. Childish 10. Kendrick 11. Jay 12. Little big town with Taylor swift 13. Sam hunt and marren Morris mash up 14. Thomas Rhett 15. Jason Isbell I really wish your #1 was going to happen, but it's not. I'm actually really hyped about nearly all of the performances that have been announced. The only 'meh' ones to me are Sam Smith and U2.

Pretty f**ked that Lorde is nominated for AOTY and wasn't even invited to perform. Could this be fallout from that whole "I was sick so I didnt cancel I just showed up and flailed around the stage on live television without singing and left everyone confused" thing she did?

I was actually thinking about this the other day. But still, pretty sad that she ain't performing.

Lorde should be given props for showing up, not in trouble for not doing an amazing job. Furthermore, if she was being "punished" why would they throw her an AOTY Nom when there were lots of other artists who could've been put in with good efforts this year as well.

Circle jerk aside I'm just going to say Kelly Clarkson is the true bitch being robbed here. Lorde is so pressed vocally I'm okay with her not being able to make it. Sorry cold cup!

I mean... she WAS sick. So at least she showed up and did *something* rather than cancel. I can't imagine that has anything to do with it, especially since that was at the VMAs of all places.

Kelly has 1 nom that isn't even in a major category so she isn't being robbed of anything. Julia Michaels has 2 noms in the major categories and still hasn't been announced as a performer. Chris Stapleton has 3 noms in the country categories AND is an incredible live performer and as of yet is not getting a performance slot. Ledisi and Daniel Caesar each have multiple nominations in the R&B categories and likely won't get to perform.
