I came up with an idea for a new kind of AC. I call it "young AC". It would be a mainstream or even a soft AC format, but the artists will be skew younger and at least two-thirds of the songs will come from the last 20-25 years. An example of core artists would include John Mayer, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey and Nickelback. I would experiment this format in areas where is a competing AC.
If this is or isn't a good idea, or whatever other suggestions you have, let me know.

That sort of reminds me of Hot AC, or some of the Hot ACs I've heard.
Perhaps the "young AC" station could keep the songs softer, with mid-tempo songs and ballads, going back to 1990 at the earliest; and also pulling out slower songs from the CHR/Pop chart which aren't played that much anymore.
I'm not sure if the AC chart songs from the last 15 years would have much appeal for younger people since many of the artists (at least up until these last couple of years) were older or older-skewing like Rod Stewart, Elton John, John Tesh or Don Henley.

This is basically being done already by New York's "Fresh" 102.7 FM. It is a "Millennial AC" station focusing on music from this and the last decades andvery rarely playing anything from the 80's. The artists you cite are fixtures on their format. I recall reading on the R&R website that they are considering expanding the format to other markets in the future. So far, it's working - they have taken a nearly two point bite out of WLTW's ratings.
