His best single to date and this is coming from somebody that typically dislikes his music.

Damn, already #1 on iTunes.
I like this. And I'm glad to see they're just calling this a rerelease of Illuminate rather than starting a new era.

I take back what I said about them missing out on Lights On and Three Empty Words. This is FIRE. This is definitely going to be a SMASH, I cannot see this missing the #1 on Pop especially when this is more on trend with the current sound AND if Stitches & Treat You Better got there!

I like it! It's definitely better than Treat You Better and Mercy.

I bot confused why it hit #1 on iTunes as its listed as the opening track off Illuminate on both Spotify and Wikipedia until I figured it WAS a new song. And it's pure fire - no wonder it's at the top

I like this. It's like he went and covered "drive by" by train and "good girl" by Carrie Underwood and put his twist on it. Shawn you've redeemed yourself my friend. Very catchy and a contender for song of the summer.

After the first listen, I just find it okay. I'm sure when I hear it more, I will warm up to it.

I really like this one, sounds a lot like Ed Sheeran Potentially could become his best song imo This is also very fitting for Spring/Summer

I liked it but I didnt love it.Of course its more upbeat than others songs in the album and it might have a good response because of Summer time too...well I hope to start feeling this one lol.

I low key like this. Reminds me of the 80's karaoke classics a bit.
I still think "Mercy" is by far his best single of the three this era though.

The guitar on this is really good.
I think this might be my favorite from him so far.

This is actually really good! I like how he tests new ways of singing (I guess is how you would describe it?) with his voice in the pre chorus and chorus. Although I loved Stitches, I feel a lot of his songs sound the exact same with the guitar and his vocals never really changing, but this sounds different and unique but at the same time obviously Shawn. Hopefully this can be a big hit! Stitches was played non stop here until last summer when they replaced the constant spins with Treat You Better, which even today is still on all the time. Hopefully they will now replace it with this, especially seeing as I was never that fond of Treat You Better

I feel like he hit the rock bottom with "Treat You Better" and since then he can only improve because it would be hard to release a single more cringeworthy and unlistenable. I disliked "Mercy" but I still thought it was an improvement. This song isn't still on the same level for me as "Stitches" or "I Know What You Did Last Summer" which I both really liked, but it is a huge improvement and a step in the right direction so I could be able to like his material again. This song actually sounds like it has a catchy melody. Not perfect by any means but I absolutely support this single, I want him to go back into this more upbeat direction, leaving ugly, unpleasant ballads he can't pull off, behind. I am aware this is an unpopular opinion. Sorry.

How come no one told me about this? Come on, it's his best song, even the cringe lyrics couldn't ruin the great melody. The instrumentation is so simple yet amazing.

Most of the time I don't care about the lyrics all that much unless there too vulgar. All I heard was a catchy upbeat song that reminded me of another rockish type song from the late 90's-early 2000's. His upbeat songs may be unpopular opinion on here but in general his upbeat songs are the only ones that do well. In my opinion his cd's are ok but sound alike and I personally wouldn't give them a second listen if it wasn't for his upbeat songs.

In my opinion his cd's are ok but sound alike and I personally wouldn't give them a second listen if it wasn't for his upbeat songs. I think it has all to do with the narrative of the song, he adopts a knight in shiny armor attitude (which frankly doesn't suit him at all) but comes as being selfish and douchy (which doesn't suit him either). There's a big disconnect between what he want to say and what he really says. To be fair, what surprises me about the original post is that he finds Stitches that great, because i thought people who hated Treat you better were the same that hated Stitches. In my opinion Mercy is his best single by far. Anyway he is in the good path, he stablished himself, his songs top 10 or not have long chartruns. Frankly it's really amazing he was able to do it given how much his lable messed his chances with the (non) release of Life of the party and the faliure of Something big

Frankly it's really amazing he was able to do it given how much his lable messed his chances with the (non) release of Life of the party and the faliure of Something big "Stitches" has awful lyrics imo. I like it because it has catchy melody and upbeat production. English isn't my native language and thanks to that while listening I have bigger tolerance for bad lyrics, but even if you ignore the ego and douchiness of "Treat You Better" (even though the "any girl like you deserves a gentleman" line still makes me cringe every time) that song is still unlistenable. In the verses he doesn't sing at all, he just speaks/mumbles through them, and in the chorus he oversings resulting in that "BETTAH THAN HE CAN" line which is easily the worst part of the song. I mostly dislike "Mercy" because it shares that ugly and unpleasant vibe of "Treat You Better". I just think that he doesn't have charisma to pull of this kind of music. The biggest problem is that it's hard for me to sympathize with him and that's what TYB and Mercy expect from the listener.

I finally took a listen to this. Treat You Better remains his best single with ease (I agree on the late 90s feeling in it), but I do get the point of this, especially as a new track to tack onto the album, and it does sound like it should be a Summer hit as Shape Of You recedes.
I'm glad it's not a full reversion to Stitches because his 2 most recent singles showed definite growth and development from that, but it does serve as a worthwhile missing link. Hopefully whatever makes the next proper album will move forward though and not further back.
