To add to the lack of women in the top 10 last week, we haven't had a woman at #1 since November. If you ignore features, the last female #1 was last August with Cheap Thrills! As I pointed out in that post about women in the top 10, 2014 was quite the opposite. Everything until March was female (including features), and everything from June to the end of the year, bar Rude for six weeks in the summer, was by a female. It will be interesting to see what female act will get the next #1, seeing as both Katy and Gaga failed (and I don't mean fail in the sense that they flopped or anything, or that they were expected to debut at the top). Maybe Alessia or Selena? Although that would still continue the featured streak. Bon Appétit? Surprise Ariana release? Taylor later in the year? Gaga jump with The Cure? It will be interesting to see
ETA: To add to that, it has been 24 weeks since there has been a female #1. The longest I could find since then (some got close with around 20 but usually with two songs with long runs) was 30 weeks from December 2005 to July 2006!

It will be interesting to see I'm betting on Taylor being the next lead female #1. Reportedly Taylor is releasing her next album at the end of the year. I mean, it's been three years since 1989, so it's very likely. I'm betting on a late August release and that'll be the next #1 for a female lead. As for now, I'm not even sure what the next #1 after TWIL is gonna be. The current Top 3 is very strong, and I feel like there's not really any competition against those three tracks. Maybe Gaga or Drake can discount their songs and pull a surprise summer #1, but for now, I'm not sure.

Idk what Bon Appetit sounds like, or how it'll do. But seeing how Rihanna released three duds and got a #1 afterwards, anything can happen. Maybe if the song is actual fun pop this time and not s**tty social activism, the song could do some damage, especially since summer is coming. And summer has always been a good time for Katy.

Beyonce has been doing social activism for years and it has worked, not for KP in my opinion. I'm the minority though, and a lot of people seem to like Perry's shift to "purposeful pop," but I like tasteless Teenage Dream era Katy Perry better.

I think that Chained To The Rhythm is an amazing sounding song and an utter failure of a social message at the same time. Putting its "social purpose" aside I like everything about it.
I feel like "Despacito" might be a contender for #1 after "That's What I Like", especially if they do some promo for the Bieber version.

I have a love/hate relationship with the song. As for Despacito, I don't like the song, but if it reaches #1 it'll be very interesting. We haven't had a Spanish #1 since 1996.

She could finish at #1 when the competition starts to fade (BBMAs) Oh well, I almost forgot.she doesn't care about promotion anymore. Let me dream.

Well, it looks like iSpy broke the #4 curse.
In all honesty, even Kendrick's social activism on Humble. works better than that.

The BBMAs this year will be interesting.
TØP could release a lead single from their next album then.
Abel could preform Reminder or False Alarm. Both could be great summer smashes.
Rihanna could do that, too.
But none are confirmed to preform... Yet.

Unless Lady GaGa finally makes an impact on Spotify, she's not getting a #1 anytime soon. Well that actually applies to a lot of solo female artists which are not doing well there lately. I wonder if Taylor Swift will go back to Spotify with her next release, Spotify has just gotten bigger since 1989's release.

Not quite sure what you mean by this time period, as there were numerous female #1's during then: Beyonce's Check On It, SOS, Hips Don't Lie, etc. Whenever Taylor releases her next single, a #1 is in the palm of her hands. Even If it's not on Spotify, the inevitable high sales numbers, YouTube views, and eventual airplay might be enough to propel it comfortably to the top.

Happy to see Ed falling properly in airplay now! Bruno shouldn't have too much issue getting to #1 in airplay given he's still got a lot of room to grow on certain formats (Ubran/Urban AC/HAC/AC).

Well, it looks like iSpy broke the #4 curse. What #4 curse? How did it break it? The last two songs to peak on #4 fell off the top ten in two weeks. iSpy isn't... It's actually gaining. It's on #6 not because it's falling, but because other songs are gaining faster. When radio will catch up, it may end up being bigger than during it's original #4 run.
