So I like watching album reactions on YouTube and not a single person reacted to this. Probably because her fans are actual adults with better things to do with their time than make those type of videos lol. Anyone who says they are devastated by her voice get over it and enjoy the album and be grateful! It has some gems like Who's Gonna Be Your Girl, and I'm Alright is great. Don't focus on the differences, enjoy her lower tone and the cool new productions!

I see people are commenting on her voice. Did she have some sort of vocal issue? What's causing the vocal changes?

I see people are commenting on her voice. Did she have some sort of vocal issue? What's causing the vocal changes? She developed Lyme disease and dysphonia which affected her vocal chords. She'll never sound the same. She'll have the disease for the rest of her life.

If you watch any of her new interviews she explains what happened...in a nut shell - lymes disease did some damage. She knew she had it before, but its not common to attack the vocal chords, so tgry didnt make the connection til much later. Shes been dealing with it since her greatest hits and has talked about during her docu-series on the OWN network.

Oh, wow. I had no idea. I haven't listened to the new album yet, but I'm so sad to hear this. I knew she mentioned not wanting to sing anymore a few years back, but this is so sad to hear.

I actually think her voice has more character on this album. Don't @ me. I mean, she legit belts at the end of Poor Me. Also, this album has KILLER production. Why are the best songs on the deluxe though?? No complaints though. As some have said, the mere fact that it exists is a miracle in and of itself but the material is REALLY strong and she is responsible for all of it. Even the packaging is beautiful and I love the pics of her. Ageless beauty. This album is very strong. I actually think it's her best work because there is no campiness. I never really was that into that part of Shania's persona, anyway, so I don't miss the humor at all. I give this a solid A. 1. Because Of You (the You're Still The One of the album, clearly and @ the ultimate troll job she did by putting it on the deluxe) 2. Let's Kiss & Make Up (reminds me so much of the material on her Up! Blue album, which is my favorite of hers) 3. Where Do You Think You're Going (a masterpiece and those lyrics..whew...she also sounds fantastic) 4. Life's About To Get Good 5. Soldier (would be a great single with an epic video) 6. All In All 7. We Got Something They Don't 8. Roll Me On The River 9 . Poor Me 10. You Can't Buy Love 11. Swingin' 12. I'm Alright

After some time with the record, my highlights are Where Do You Think You’re Going, I’m Alright, Swinging With My Eyes Closed, and Poor Me. While still nothing touches past material for me, I must say the melancholy in WDYTYG is flawlessly heartbreaking.

This album doesn't even come close to touching her collaborations with Mutt, but it isn't a disaster either. As I have mentioned before, I grew up with Shania as my "icon" of sorts, my favorite artist and the one artist I defended over any other. It is a LITTLE disheartening to see how drastic of an impact Mutt made on her material, as its undeniable now when you hear this project. Gone are the witty, unique ideas of songs such as "Waiter!" "What A Way To Wanna Be" "That Don't Impress Me Much" "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" and so many others. But what this album DOES do well, is the very slick production that fits every song on here and gives it the feel it probably deserved/needed.
The lyrics on this album are so incredibly basic it sounds like a teenager wrote them (and not a gifted one like Taylor Swift), but in many cases it works. Overall I am so happy Shania had the courage to come back, like the sound of the record, and am happy to have purchased it. But it won't have the replay value of her past catalog.
Really good: Where Do You Think You're Going Home Now (I wish this was the lead single. I think country would have played it) Who's Gonna Be Your Girl You Can't Buy Love Poor Me
Listenable/fun: Let's Kiss And Make Up We Got Something They Don't Life's About To Get Good (lol I recognize this is kinda bad but it will always mean something to me since it was her comeback song) Soldier I'm Alright Roll Me On The River
Not good: More Fun All In All
I will never listen to again: Swinging With My Eyes Closed Because of You Light of My Life (hands down the worst song she has EVER recorded.)

This is one of hér best ballads ever. We all need to get over the Mutt Lange stage lol She has grown as an artist and showed she is not scared to try something different and new. Shania will always be judged by her past glory which is stupid. That was a different time and place and sound. Her new album is amazing actually .

I agree about the lyrics, some are really cringe-worthy, and you can tell on some she just picked words to rhyme with. Most of them are tiny sentences. You can definitely hear what Mutt brought to the table. :(
As I said before, the vocals are great in some songs and not so great in others. I dont know if theres a song I love in its entirety, because either I dont like a vocal, lyrics, or I may love the hook but despise the verses or bridge... Oh well. Still love her...and enjoy the album mostly. I agree also the about the production being stellar. :)
Songs I kept on my Spotify:
Home Now Poor Me Who's Gonna Be Your Girl Let's Kiss And Make Up We Got Something They Don't (This and Home Now are my favs) Because Of You You Can't Buy Love All In All

I was hesitant going in, but was pretty impressed by the song quality overall. Yes it's cheesy, but it's in line with what I think of Shania's previous eras.
My main problem is that it sounds like the studio was full of bees while she was recording. This has some poor production/mastering for a major release, and this genre of pop needs a shiny polish.

The lyrics on this album are so incredibly basic Umm...totally disagree. I actually think this album's shinning moments are in the songwriting. Basic would definitely be "Up." I like the song but it repeats the title more than most songs out today. "All In All" is probably my favorite song she has ever written. It goes from thinking about making her way to Nashville, to making it and then the downfall of her voice. It's brilliant. And the production is also quite polished. We would have never heard the creak of the piano bench on "Where Do You Think We're Going," on a Mutt Lange record. He just wouldn't have allowed it. It was a deliberate decision, obviously.

I am with you 100% on the production. Even in my review I mentioned how incredible each song sounds. No complaints there. Disagree 100% on the lyrics. Incredibly basic with words inserted purely to rhyme with absolutely no reason to them. But it doesn't matter, if you enjoy them that is all that matters. Music is subjective. I still am happy the album is out and she is confident and beautiful as ever. But it is not as good as her mega-successful albums.

I'm really surprised she's expected to debut as high as she is. I was expecting around 75K at most, but get it Shania! And the fact that she'll smash Demi and Miley is even better!

And you are right music is subjective and I find this album to be better written than any of hér other work. i also find the songs to be so diverse and fresh. it is plain wrong to look back in the past. It was a different time and place and sound. People were saying all her songs sounded the same then with child like lyrics. i disagree with some of that. But to me there is no doubt this album was better written and so much more diverse than any of hér other albums.

Got my copy in the mail and the pictures are gorgeous..but can you expect anything less when it's Shania?!
Vocals and some lyrics aside, it's a fantastic record, and I think I'd love it completely if it had her old vocals, but I appreciate it in a different way..and some songs she sounds fantastic in anyway, so really its possible to get a stellar album again. Also, the deluxe should have been the only version released since some of the best are on there. Im content.

People expecting the same songs as before are delusional and don't know what an artist is. They grow and change like we all do as we get older and experience more. i for one love her new sound and approach. i sure didn't want her to be stuck in the past like some fans are lol

Never. She had almost zero power or range, but she did sing with a warm, inviting tone that I loved. Now she doesn't even have that, and it's even more evident when you hear all the studio retooling in her singing. I somewhat agree. I've always been a big Shania fan but I never have thought she had a great voice. Good YES. Warm and Inviting tone is a great description. However listening to her voice on Now really does highlight how good her voice was back in the day. Hear hear. Having a great voice can be about power and range, or it can be about warmth, conviction, and intensity. Some people have both, and others, like Shania, may not have the power/range part, but have the warmth, conviction, and texture. I distinctly remember an old review from her COO days that said that her voice felt like creamy caramel. And I totally get that review! She HAD it in spades, and she always sold her songs due to two things: 1- they had the great hooks and melodies that Mutt created for her, and 2- her voice was a captivating instrument. Hearing Now is heartbreaking because her disease totally took away that quality and that rich texture that made her voice compelling. Now she doesn't have the killer Mutt hooks and melodies or the voice. So all that's left is a bunch of mediocre AC-lite songs sung through a vocoder-like machine that strips her singing of soul and warmth and makes her sound like Roboshania. Sad.

I don't get the complaints about her lyrics, are we talking about the same Shania Twain here? I mean I love her but she has never been this fantastic writer and I don't see the difference in the lyrics on Now and her past work.
Yes there are some cliches like on YCBL but I could easily point to lyrics on Up (the song) and C'est La Vie as 2 examples of basic & cliche writing as well along with several other songs. Her writing has always been kinda basic and cheesy but that's her thing. - Anyway, the album is great IMO.
I think WDYTYG and LKAMU are my favourites right now.

She deserves it, honestly. She seems like such a good person. I loved watching her coach on American Idol and, since Come On Over, have been a fan. I had no idea that she was so popular outside of the US. Them other pop-country girls could NEVER!
