I confess I need to brush up on my John Berry, I only know "She's Taken a Shine" and "Your Love Amazes Me". Both are great songs though. Dude had an incredible voice.

Standing on the Edge is a fantastic album. Maybe one of the most underrated albums from the mid 90's. It was also produced by Jimmy Bowen which along with John Berry's amazing vocal talent explains the albums greatness.

The man STILL has a great voice. His indie records are as good as his major label output.

Of course it's hard to point out what makes it different to me but this album just sounds so fresh and uncluttered. It just doesn't sound like any other album production wise to me. I feel the same way about Diamond Duo's IV album. There is just something about those albums that I can't put my finger on that just makes them stand out....

I'm surprised at how well "Standing on the Edge" holds up production wise. Because I've found that Jimmy Bowen's production style usually ages horribly. So much reverb and dated synths. Look at most 80s Reba or George stuff. And Chuck Howard's production usually ages poorly too, on the few albums I've found produced by him.
As for Diamond Rio's "IV", it was the first country album recorded entirely digitally.

I saw them a few weeks before it was released and I remember them mentioning that the album would sound different. I am going to have to find Standing on the Edge. For some reason it is missing from my collection. I have all of the others but there is an empty spot where that one goes. I need to give it a listen. It has been quite a while.

Has anyone ever heard John's singles "The Stone" (BB 59, RR 49) and "Better Than A Biscuit" (BB 75)? I have searched the internet (legally!) a long time and have never found them. They were minor singles, but I have heard lower charting and older singles online than these.

I remember hearing "The Stone" on an online radio station a few times. I remember it using a David and Goliath metaphor but don't remember anything else. Surprised it's not available even in a bootleg on YouTube.

Does anyone on here have the "Better Than A Biscuit " cd? I know there are some advance copies that exist but are impossible to find.
