They also announced Lauren as the winner, and then proceeded to have the rest of the nominees perform throughout the evening, including Chris, who performed directly after her accepted speech, lol. Anyways, the 'remake' of "The Fighter" was pretty predictable, but the first half was pretty nice. Would've preferred it to be entirely stripped down. It was nice to be able to experience them use their vocal talents on it. Carrie damn-near stopped airflow. Anyways, I still really hate the "When someone stops loving you / It don't make the evening news" line in this LBT song. But the song itself is pretty. FYI, Chris wasn't actually nominated for Breakthrough...so I didn't see that as a big deal. Nominees were Brett, Luke Combs, Kane, Lauren, Raelynn and Jon

For some reason, I thought he was nom'd. NVM! My issue has been resolved.

Since we are on the topic of "Pink Sunglasses". Does anyone want to start the thread, just in case it'll be a single? I do agree with 14887fan that "Pink Sunglasses" was my least favorite track on The Weight of These Wings. But who knows maybe the sonic nature of that song could make the Top 20/30. Crazier things have happened

I see "Pink Sunglasses" as being a LRW Part II in terms of its polarizing nature so I don't see it as being the right move at radio right now for her when she's lacking momentum. I think it would sell pretty well and be a fan favorite though much like LRW is, and I'd kill for a music video for that one. But I do hope that they don't abandon "Tin Man" just yet. :'(

"Pink Sunglasses" is one of the worst songs I've ever heard, if it is her next single then it's a terrible decision!

Bless up for the Carrie Music Television Awards. Glad Keith won hardware tonight after so many unjust snubs at basically all of the other awards shows this past year. Also super glad Carrie didn't have to accept an award from Kid Racist. All good things!

CMT awards are always a mess in my opinion, so I'll probably just catch the performances of some artists I like (Miranda, Brothers Osborne, Jon Pardi, Midland...)
I just really hope this whole "Pink Sunglasses being a single" thing isn't true... I don't think that's a good choice at all and Tin Man is still so young in the charts!

Let's be honest. Miranda may be done getting big hits at radio.

Let's be honest. Miranda may be done getting big hits at radio. No. Once she's done with the Weight of These Wings and eventually gets a less personal deep album, radio will probably go right back to loving her again. She's still a very recognizable name.

Let's be honest. Miranda may be done getting big hits at radio. Not at all true. Radio just isn't willing to embrace things that aren't outside of their pop-goes-the-country wheelhouse, and ML isn't willing to play that game. At least, she isn't with this era. Her last era had "Automatic" and "Somethin' Bad." If she decides to ever make another more contemporary-leaning country record, she'll likely get more radio support, but it doesn't seem like she cares about that element of success anymore. And to be honest, she doesn't exactly need to. Critical acclaim, album sales, and being one of, like, 3 modern household female country artist names has already carried her to 2 GRAMMY nominations and a few ACM Award wins. It's radio's loss.

This. Like I said in the "Tin Man" thread, she set out to make TWOTW the way she wanted to and didn't do it with country radio in mind, but that doesn't mean she's not going to make more music in the future that is stuff that radio would readily jump on. I'm already predicting that her next era will go over better at country radio because the industry still loves her and she's not going anywhere, and now that she's gotten TWOTW out of her system, I'm anticipating her next project to be a bit more balanced between critical and commercial like her last few were.

How serious do people take the CMT Awards as a whole?

Honest question. How serious do people take the CMT Awards as a whole? They hold more respect for me now since the ACMs and the CMAs have gone to block voting. Jason Aldean winning Entertainer at ACMs was a huge joke to me and Miranda winning so many Female Vocalist was just unreal, so those shows don't mean anything anymore as far as I'm concerned. At least the CMTs are Fan voted and not done by a conglomerate of sorts. Raylatch, are you upset Keith won some awards? ;)

So for the record: Pink Sunglasses is not a single, it was just a performance To the larger question: Miranda will continue to receive hourly airplay debuts for lead singles. Radio personalities will continue to be happy to interview her & promote her concerts. However, I think her days of getting a "pass" at country radio might be over. Radio will give her singles a shot...but if they don't test well, they wont convert....and they wont be converted before they test well. Also country radio has serious problems, so this all may be a moot discussion.

That's what happens when you let the fans vote on a show that isn't completely manipulable. You treat fans the way Keith Urban does, they'll treat him that way right back I don't really care at this point how prestigious the CMTs are compared to the ACMs or CMAs right now. People spoke and people are tired of him loosing and it isn't going unnoticed anymore either. Again... bout damn time!
