Ever had an album that took forever for you to warm up to? I was a huge fan of Cody Johnson's prior three albums - Six Strings One Dream, A Different Day and Cowboy Like Me and seriously played the living crap out of ADD and CLM. Pre-ordered Gotta Be Me, put it in my truck and was completely underwhelmed - only liked the two faster tunes (Chain Drinking and Billy's Brother). I had been conditioned by the last three albums that for whatever reason this new one just didn't move me - too mellow, too many love songs, not enough tales of betrayal, etc. It took me 6 months to get into it - now I love it. Even "With You I Am" took forever for me to warm up too.
Great tunes on the album: Grass Stains, With You I am, Chain Drinking, Wild as You, Kiss Goodbye, Half a Song, Billy's Brother.
Same thing with Toby Keith's Honkeytonk University. Loved and played over and over his How Do You Like Me Now?, Pull My Chain, Unleashed and Shock'n Y'all CDs then Honkeytonk University came out and I was completely disappointed. With the exception of As Good as I Once Was, nothing clicked for me. For whatever reason it just felt too different than all his prior albums. Again, it took me about 4 to 6 months before I started playing the album regularly.
Great tunes: Honkytonk U, She Ain't Hooked on Me No More, She Left Me, You Ain't Leavin' (Thank God Are Ya), Your Smile, Where You Gonna Go, and You Caught Me at a Bad Time
What albums could you not get into, but eventually did?

I didn't like Dwight Yoakam's Gone very much at first because mom would play it all the time. Then I grew up and started paying more attention to the songs. There is some really good stuff on there.

Despite loving the lead single, when Sara Evans' Slow Me Down came out I was completely disappointed and underwhelmed. Overall it felt way too poppy, vocally I did not feel like she pushed herself as much as she claimed she did, and it just did not live up to the hype. Now, I would rank every single song an A or A+...

Not that I didn't like it initially, but I appreciate the brilliance that is Miranda Lambert's The Weight Of These Wings so much more now.
