Just because a small label wants to grow doesn't mean they can just sign a ton of acts all of a sudden. It takes awhile to grow, even with all of Kelsea's success. And there's no point in signing artists if the label doesn't have the man power to create and promote music for them at the moment. Not saying Black River is off the table, hell, they may be itching to sign someone else right now. But just because they're small and capable of growth and success doesn't mean they're looking to sign artists right now All that may be true but they are not exactly new at this. BRE has been around since 2007. They have carried as many as 9 artists not that long ago. None of this is really my point though.... My point is/was...I think a small indie label like Black River would work well for Lauren. It is so easy to get lost on the roster of a mega label. There are lots of other small labels in Nashville too. Ashley Monroe is on Ready Set. Brandy Clark is on State Creek Records. Jason Isbell, Will Hoge and Patty Griffin are in the non-label Thirty Tigers. All four of those have artists with Grammy noms or wins in the past 2 or 3 years. Yeah...maybe not as sexy as the big guys but all those big guys have about the same success rate launching females as the little guys.

Yes. I intended to clarified that. I just got lazy...or maybe it was the Scotch. They are now. However, I intended to tie that to launching their careers like Lauren is doing now. Brandy's break out album 12 Stories was released on State Creek and Ashley Monroe's was on Ready Set....which then morphed into a distribution deals with Warner and then signed. Props to Warner for paying attention. Eventually Warner bought the entire rights to 12 Stories...but after it was released and the press drooled over it.

Sorry for being cryptically brief. I was trying to not make this about anyone but Lauren.
The problem most indie labels have is promotion and distribution....especially for physical products like CDs. Distribution becomes less and less of a problem everyday as physical sales have been falling like a rock for a decade now. Uploading the art and music to iTunes, Amazon and the like is pretty easy. A big promo is still a challenge for an indie label but some of the small indie labels like Black River and Thirty Tigers have figured out do the promotion game effectively.
Indie labels don't typically have long term contracts. It's usually for the record they are currently making. That makes moving on or up when you have some success easier.
Originally Warner offered to distribute and promote 12 Stories on behalf of the label....for a cut obviously. Later they ponied up and bought Brandy's contract for 12 Stories.
Actually, Ashley first album was later distributed by Sony who also released her next album. She then signed Warner.
Anyway it's a good path for females because the big labels tend to have producers that are formulamatic and chase trends. Since the bro trend is not going to work for most females they are out of their element. Small labels usually let the artist define themselves. If the public likes what they create the deep pockets guys will write the check. That said the big labels have their pluses too. :)
Anyway...just wanna say again...any reasonable record deal...big or small...Lauren can get would be awesome. If she ends up full indie I'll be there too.

Hearing announcement in two weeks or less. To push DejaVu as lead single after sales success. Again, not guaranteed....but I would bet on it. Hmmmm.... It's been more than two weeks. Would you still bet on it?

Would you still bet on it? I can't speak for him, but I still believe she will be signed and probably have a lead single. It just takes a while to develop a label deal, sign and make everything official. Now, if she isn't signed by the end of the summer (Mid to late September) than there should be doubts.

Another Voice contestant (Hunter) sent out a tweet saying he had 7 days left until his voice contract was over and he could release his own music. Lauren might not be able to sign with anyone but umg/republic until after her voice contract has run out.

Hunter told someone on IDF who has access via DM about this 30 day window while the season was still going. Apparently, they can't even shop for labels while they're under contact. I also wonder how it would work for Warner to release Deja Vu, since it's a UMG recording.

I don't know why, but for some reason I imagine Kelly Clarkson singing this song and killing it. I hope she covers it.
