I love this album, it is definitely not country (and it's not even listed under country on itunes)

This is one album I'm waiting until its official release this Friday. I have tickets to see him a month from now in Austin (w/ Amanda Shires) and can't wait to hear his new music!

this is amazing. My favorite album of the year thus far I think (though DAMN. provides some stiff competition)

Listened to it for the 2nd time a little bit ago. So good but that's not a huge surprise because everything he has put out so far has been fantastic. "Anxiety" is easily my favorite track.

Jason Isbell outdid himself yet again. This is truly a GREAT album; and instantly ranks amongst Country AOTY 2017 (along with Colter Wall: "Colter Wall"). There are still some albums I have to check, and re-check, like Marty Stuart (where I'm not sure, yet).
Anyhow, this set felt more grounded with a clearer direction in sound, and more energy (whereas "Something More Than Free" was kind of "pop" in a way). The instrumentation is fabulous, some great riffs, interesting sound textures; and the storytelling is very good. The instrumental breaks and fade outs are amazing. Very much like the fact that it's only 10 tracks and has 0 fillers! Cannot single out one specific track to be THE ONE! They're too diverse.
Bottom line: I'm very happy and satisfied with this record! Was very reluctant to listen to this first thing since I have never witnessed such an overwhelming storm of praise on Social Media; and. well, for once all his peers and all Texas musicians were spot on with their commendations. (Usually, these Social Media bursts tend to indicate a bandwagon, elitist, hipster release)
If you have time and would like to give an outsider album a chance (its' Alternative Country Rock), you may want to try this (it's better than Stapleton's iMHO)

HDD predicts this album to have 48-53k first week sales and 50-55k with streaming. I wonder whether Billboard will classify this as country album.

Something More Than Free debuted at #1 on Billbord's country, rock and folk charts. I'd have to think Billbord will let The Nashville Sound cross multiple charts.
Those numbers are fantastic! This might be my favorite album of the year. His songs are pure poetry.

This might be my favorite album of the year. His songs are pure poetry. iTunes lists the album as "Rock", but I tend to agree with you in thinking that Billboard will allow it to chart on the country, rock, folk, and americana charts. It might also help that Isbell releases through Thirty Tigers, whose artists primarily chart on the country charts.

This is a fantastic album and so far the best album of the year. I ordered this on vinyl and it came in right on its release day; I've been listening to it nonstop since.
My current favorites: 1. If We Were Vampires 2. Anxiety (for anyone living with this you'll relate; I'm intrigued to know more about the story behind this song) 3. White Man's World 4. Hope the High Road 5. Cumberland Gap (great song for running!) 6. The Last of My Kind 7. Tupelo 8. Molotov 9. Something to Love 10. Chaos and Clothes

"Cumberland Gap" is easily my favorite song on this one. Will be playing the heck out of it.

Debut at No.4 in Billboard 200, with 51,000 traditional album sales and 54,000 album units. This is his highest charting album and best sales week.

Outstanding. I think he's topped himself. On first listen, "Cumberland Gap", "If We Were Vampires", "Hope the High Road", and "Something to Love" stood out to me the most, but every track is strong. I believe we are witnessing a genius in the midst of his prime.
