I hate posting this sad stuff, but from Don's facebook page:
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Don Williams. Thank you for your support of Don's career. Rest well Gentle Giant."
Today is not a great day in country music.

What a sad day for country music. I became a fan of Don Williams through my parents who are both huge fans of his, they were devastated when I told them the sad news. Don had such a great, mellow voice and a lot of really great songs. I would encourage the young posters on here who may not be familiar with Don's music to check it out, it'll be well worth your time.

Very sad indeed , but he lived a fruitful life. Unlike the sudden passing of Troy Gentry. All in all sad day for country music. My wife texted me and told me about Troy , and when I went for my phone I saw about Dons passing. He's left an indelible mark on me
Don is in my Top 10 , but I really only really discovered his catalog a few years ago. I collected all his LPs on vinyl and converted to MP3 , since his albums mostly aren't on steaming or iTunes. So so many great songs. A bob mcdill written don Williams song is pure perfection
Just heard "we've got a good fire going" this morning on my playlist
I too encourage any young posters to check it out. Pure simple music with a smooth delivery. Won't offend you or make your eardrums bleed. It's actually perfect to lay in bed in the dark and put in headphones. Do it all the time
RIP Don and Troy

Don was a huge influence on me and you could even say I became a fan of country music because of him. I was first introduced to him via a friend of my Mom (I was barely 8 lol) and from there I ended up discovering George Strait, Alan Jackson, Mark Chesnutt, and so on. I think it was probably the second or third concert for me, but I got to see Don Williams perform at a local county fair in my hometown of Nebraska back in 1993 (he was out on tour promoting his album Currents at the time). Very sad to hear of his passing, but I was lucky enough to get to see him perform here in Austin in 2011 and again in 2015 right before he had to stop touring all together. He may have looked frail but his voice was as good as ever I can tell you that. I'll forever be thankful for the memories that I'll always have thanks to his music.
