Terrible numbers for Eminem.
From a purely sales standpoint, the projections put him behind:
Taylor Swift (1st week) P!nk Kendrick Lamar Ed Sheeran Taylor Swift (2nd week) Drake Kenny Chesney Chris Stapleton Logic Harry Styles
On par with Sam Smith and U2, unless the numbers drop further.
His album is getting brutal reviews as well. Worse than Witness. He got a 0 yesterday.
Most panned albums of 2017 according to Metacritic:
1. Memories...Do Not Open by The Chainsmokers 2. 8 by Incubus 3. One More Light by Linkin Park 4. Evolve by Imagine Dragons 5. The King & I by Faith Evans 6. Revival by Eminem
The 119th most panned album ever according to their data.

During the last few months, demand for Eminem’s music has been unwavering, even though he hasn’t released any new albums in over four years. With an average of 20,000 P2P users sharing Eminem’s music every day, he regularly ranked among the top 25 music artists of the past few months, grabbing spot no. 17 in the music file sharing charts of October and climbing to spot no. 16 of top artists in November. Then, as a result of the heated anticipation for Eminem’s “Revival”, his ninth studio album, and the eleven torrent files permeating throughout the P2P networks, downloads of his music skyrocketed to more than 85,000 P2P users on December 14, 2017. When the album was officially released the following day, another nine torrent files appeared in P2P networks, further heating up demand for Eminem’s music and resulting in almost 125,000 file sharers actively downloading and sharing Eminem songs. In particular, almost 90% of the file sharers went after tracks from “Revival”. To put this in perspective, the latest album release from Ed Sheeran, who is one of the most popular artists this year, triggered about 133,000 fans to download his music in P2P networks. However, as it stands today, Eminem has managed to reach the top spot in the world's file sharing chart of top artists for December.

TL;DR - Many people still care about Eminem and his illegal download numbers are some of the best numbers of the year.

You can't eat on free downloads It's disappointing and these numbers are aligned with JAY Z after he gave listeners a free week to jam to his album.

To be fair, I didn't even buy the album yet LOL and I own all of his stuff. I was just not happy with the bizarre roll out. Also, I refuse to pay such a high price for a CD.
In the early 2000s you saw CDs this price... and then for a good 5-7 years most new releases would often launch at $9.99 on day 1. Now, we are back to acting like CDs are a special thing and prices are starting to hike up. Furthermore, many retailers around me did not even stock the album on release date. So I downloaded a digital copy... it's hard to want to go back and purchase the CD right away until there is a sale. However, I will at some point because I do actual own all his other albums. This whole rollout was just a mess really.
I do think the album has grown on me though. There are still some nice songs. A lot of people seem to be wanting to download the Alicia Keys song, and she isn't even a big radio/downloading artist anymore, so there is something there that could be a hit in the spring of 2018. The Ed song will help the album get some legs, especially if they release a video in the new year.
I will admit I am shocked that the album opened "So low" (for his standards) but I do believe the rollout played a PART in it. His diss towards Trump did hurt quite a bit, and the content of the album as well I'm sure. But the fact that he didn't release the album the weekend of SNL was so mind boggling. And no music video. And no real single for radio.
October 10 - BET Freestyle is launched. Announce a new album.
October 13 - Drop song with Beyonce to announce the return
October 31 - Drop video with Beyonce
November 3 - Release first official with Ed Sheeran
November 10 - Drop the album
November 11 - Performance on SNL
November 19 - Performance on AMA
December 1 - Ed Sheeran "River" video
I think if we would've seen something like this, it would be done at least moderately better.

Maybe Eminem is just getting too old for the game? He's in his mid 40's now, that's getting up there for someone who still expects to make a big splash on the pop charts.
It's even worse for women, but men eventually get hit by the ageist bug as well.

Eminem's already done the equivalent of over 300k in the UK. This may be the first time he's done better in that market than at home with debuts.

A surprise album: hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=309844...and the #3 spot is occupied by a surprise drop from Quavo and Travis Scott, the oddly titled Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho (Quality Control/Motown/Capitol-Grand Hustle/Cactus Jack/Epic). The 13-track collaborative set was teased and rumored to be happening by both artists for most of 2017, and boasts not only two of the world's top streaming artists but also a cover by the legendary Ralph Steadman, best known for his Hunter S. Thompson book covers.

Eminem's already done the equivalent of over 300k in the UK. This may be the first time he's done better in that market than at home with debuts. The Trump effect! Or is Ed's power this large there? I know he's at an Adele level in the UK, could a feature on Em's album help this much? It definitely didn't hurt. River is still #1 on Spotify, so it contributed towards the album. Ironically, it actually helped it hit #1 over Ed this week because Eminem was #2 on the sales chart. That said though, Ed's name alone isn't enough to give it the second biggest opening of the year which it got. FWIW, Revival hit #1 in the UK with 132k (300k is platinum there, so it's around doing 440k in the US), which is around the same range or close to what MMLP2 (143k) and Recovery (139k) did, and a bit less than the 167k that Relapse did on their first weeks. Curtain Call and Encore were early releases that did 113k and 122k respectively over 2 days.

He's getting older, his rollout was weird, he doesn't even have a hit right now, the anti-Trump thing might have truned off a few fans and there are a crap ton of sucessful white male rappers out right now, so he doesn't even have that corner of the market to himself anymore. I mean he's had an extended, glorious run and nothing last forever. Plus in this sales climate what he sold isn't even that horrible so I'm shedding no tears for Em at the moment. LOL

Yeah, hits had Taylor at 68-73k and she sold 93k in albums. Really good increase. Hopefully she can squeeze out one more good week before Janurary hits and the inevitable drop in sales across the board happens.

I forgot who said the following, but triple platinum will be hard to come by for Swift unless she puts out a killer single in 2018.

I think even without a smash 2.5 million is a foregone conclusion (it's at 1.8 right now). If she has one or two more decent-sized hits (top 10s) 3 million should be achievable. I see, best case scenario, Reputation ending up around 3.5 million unless she re-releases with a huge hit.

I don't think Big Machine will re-release Reputation within six months of its release just to prop up sales. I hope you're right about the three million in sales (or SPS).

^Assuming HDD's SPS numbers are right for this week, reputation would have just over 2.2 million in SPS and 1.8 million in pure sales, based on Oldbloke's numbers from UKMix. To note, it would have outsold the best pure seller from 2016 and in SPS, it would have surpassed More Life to become #3 in SPS for 2017 YTD.
Also, I just noticed Luv is Rage 2 with 550 sales for the week ...
