This was a song from 2007's For Emma, Forever Ago. This version of the song didn't make a significant impact on any chart, but it's very well-known, due to being featured on various television shows, soundtracks and commercials. The song was covered by British singer, Birdy, in 2011. Her version fared better on the charts, peaking in the top 10 in New Zealand, Australia, the Netherlands and more. It also managed to peak at #24 on the Hot Rock Songs chart and #40 on the Alternative Songs chart in the US. This song is excellent. I love it.
Birdy's version:

Ooh, I remember this one, for sure. It was great when I first heard it, but it's one of those cases in which a cover of a song (in this case, Birdy) just ruins everything that was good about it for me.

One of those songs that had a much bigger impact than you'd imagine from looking at its lack of chart success. Now that everyone on all the reality singing shows sings this it's lost the punch it had when I first heard it, but still a fantastic song that really put Him/the band on the map.
