Still respectable numbers since his halftime was sadly not focused on Man of the Woods. The media crucifixion will eventually somewhat die down because they'll find a new victim so we'll see how the rest of the era pans out. I swear I wouldn't be perched in the Timberlake threads if you all weren't doing the most to stay in your fantasy land Really? Because it sounds like you know his entire promotional schedule.

^Why are you so antagonistic? You're just as annoying as Duca. I suffer from insomnia and a bitter heart. Also, Duca isn't annoying don't you dare talk about my bae like that. All I'm doing is literally stating facts (as tired as that phrase is) I posted an update on his sales with the projection range down, and when Duca tried to play it off like Man of the Woods had no promo I just showed that wasn't the case by stating 2 high profile performances. PTB quoted me so I responded, what do you want from me? why are you trying to abuse me and Duca for posting news and good information in this thread? I'm sorry you're so jealous of us but it's not a good look. Is it because you know that we all think you're annoying and me and Duca are beloved? Edit: thanks for the new signature though finally your existence has contributed something

Still respectable numbers. I don't see how you would go from watching that SB performance to buying this album, when the only song you would get would be Filthy (the weakest part).
Legs will be the thing to watch.

People are like, so so nice to Justin Timberlake. Can you imagine literally any pop diva on here opening with much smaller numbers than her previous album during a week of unbelievably huge high profile appearances that most artists literally never get and the numbers being defended as good?
I know pop girls create a special type of emotional discussion though where like, even Taylor's 1.2 million+ was framed as a flop by some people and Beyonce is routinely called over because she doesn't have pop #1s anymore so its all good lmao. Its just so markedly different when we are having a discussion about certain female artists versus males.
These are ok numbers. I am not going to say I think they are great or out of this world or even that his team is celebrating right now. Longevity will matter more and they really, really need Say Something to take off for that.

^ Maybe because female artists need to 'step up!' ;) Of course there's a double standard. Frankly, I'm a bit surprised JT didn't hit 400-500K based on his base and the hype around SB, etc. The lack of an across the board hit hurt. That said, SS looks like it's going to blow-up, the tour etc may give this decent legs.

Billboard is now only reporting "300k". Given that this update is AFTER the SB, that is a disastrous opening week for him.

Yeah this is trending downward hard. YOUR TOP 20: WHOSE WOODS THESE ARE Though we initially expected it to bow as high as 700k+ (probably because we forgot to plug in our abacus), Justin Timberlake's Man of the Woods (RCA) now appears on track for a first-week total in the neighborhood of 250k-275k. Streaming accounts for less than 20% of that total. JT's Super Bowl halftime performance does not appear to have boosted the underperforming set. Stay tuned for updates. 1. *Justin Timberlake (RCA) 250-275k total, 210-225k sales 2. Migos (Quality Control/Motown/Capitol) 90-95k, 4-5k 3. The Greatest Showman (Atlantic) 75-80k, 48-52k 4. Ed Sheeran (Atlantic) 40-44k, 12-14k 5. Bruno Mars (Atlantic) 31-34k, 9-11k 6. Post Malone (Republic) 30-33k, 4-5k 7. Camila Cabello (SYCO/Epic) 30-33k, 4-5k 8. Kendrick Lamar (TDE/Aftermath/Interscope) 26-29k, 4-5k 9. Now 65 (NOW) 24-27k, 24-27k 10. G-Eazy (RCA) 22-25k, 1-2k 11. Lil Uzi Vert (Generation Now/Atlantic) 22-25k, 1-2k 12. Khalid (Right Hand Music/RCA) 21-24k, 2-3k 13. Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 19-22k, 5-6k 14. Imagine Dragons (Kidinakorner/Interscope) 19-22k, 5-6k 15. *Rich Brian (88rising/Empire) 19-22k, 2-3k 16. Lil Skies (Atlantic) 17-20k, <1k 17. Kodak Black (Atlantic) 16-18k, <1k 18. Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 16-18k, 4-5k 19. NF (NF Real/Caroline) 15-17k, 3-4k 20. And it can still trend downward through the week... If his pure sales ends up below Eminem's I'll cry tears of laughter

Well 1st of all, LOL at Migos selling 4-5k in pure albums and doing 90-95k SPS.
As for Justin...I'm not that surprised? I'm surprised it has trended down this much post-Super Bowl but the actual number isn't that crazy. It's been 5 years since his last album and it (Part 2) was a flop, critically and kinda commercially (at least relative to Pt 1/FSLS/Justified). Part 2 opened to what, 435k? Well sales have continued to plummet since then and his new lead single is a hard flop - respectable numbers on impact but horrible reception, critically and by the general public. He seems to have a hit on his hands with "Say Something" but he omitted it from the Super Bowl, the one thing that likely would have pushed sales. Not to mention the general media backlash. IMO, it's warranted - people have treated him like the second coming of MJ/Prince and he just isn't that talented - that's catching up to him, as well as a horribly misguided and obnoxious rollout for MOTW.
If SS continues to flourish and he gets some great promo (SNL, VMAs, something big around the holidays), the album could turn around but otherwise, will have to stretch to 300k in pure sales.
Did he/is he doing a ticket bundle? That could pad sales.

20/20 Part 2 sold 350k in its first week, and has sold over 1.1 million total.
I don't see this one crossing a million in sales if it's barely doing over 200k with the SB (even if SS goes on to be come a hit) in sales. The SEA and TEA add isn't bad for an act that's been around for 20 years, but pure sales have been his strong point up to now and where an act with a base past a certain age should do well in.

I don't even think 500k (pure sales) is in the conversation unless there's a major ticket bundle or big event around the holidays to push sales, let alone 1 million. If the album was frontloaded enough to slide from 300k to 210k over a few days, we're likely looking at a 85-90% drop next week, followed by another 50% drop. I think the below is generous... 220k 35k (255k) 20k (275k) 15k (290k) 12k (302k) 10k (312k) 8k (320k) 7k (327k)

Did he/is he doing a ticket bundle? That could pad sales. Yeah, with all the parallels to Eminem I'm not sure why people were expecting it to do so much better than Revival. Eminem is also an established artist that's been around for a couple decades, and had impressive sales with earlier albums (MMLP2 vs 20/20 Pt 1 had very similar sales), but has also taken a rather long break, and struggled with the first single, then got a relatively poor critical reception. JT might've had the superbowl but seems like people were unimpressed by his performance, plus his first day streaming numbers were something like 1/3 of Eminem's and Eminem didn't really get media backlash, the critics just weren't that into his new music.

^Probably the biggest mistake during the Super Bowl performance was just performing Filthy from the album. It was a lost opportunity to boost the Man of the Woods pure sales.

Did the Superbowl performance do more harm than good for the album's sales?
Would sales have been higher had he not performed?
Or, would sales have been lower if had he not performed
Have there been other instances when an artist actually saw a decrease than a boost after their Superbowl halftime performance?
Do we have some data on the post-Superbowl sales for the artists who performed from the last few years from say 2011 onward to compare?
