^ Wow. That's bad. LOL at "How Did You Know?" still being up there. They really need to update. And, hmm, they skipped over "World, Hold On (Children Of The Sky)"...

Yeah. Bob Sinclair has the potential to, like iiO, be an artist with some consistent success at dance radio or clubs.

Yeah. Bob Sinclair has the potential to, like iiO, be an artist with some consistent success at dance radio or clubs. Poor Bob... they can't never get it right. It's SINCLAR. :o Bob Sinclar has already been successful all over the world, his current album is his third or fourth. Iio will be nothing more than a one-hit wonder, IMHO. If you haven't, check out "I Feel For You". Smashing!

Iio will be nothing more than a one-hit wonder, IMHO. But now that they've broken up, there will probably not be a followup album. It feels like they're going to try and release every one of the songs on that album as a single and keep going for like 8 year! Now that was a lovely little track! I love pulling that one out every so often.

They look at the name quick and never think to look at it again to see that the second 'I' is nonexistent. I wonder how he came up with the name. His real name, by the way, is Christopher LeFriant.

Hollywood Hamilton & Goumba Johnny Named WKTU Afternoon Team The plan is to surround our music with high profile personalities As expected (see NET NEWS 8/22), CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Rhythmic WKTU (THE BEAT OF NY 103.5)/NEW YORK CITY has announced HOLLYWOOD HAMILTON and GOUMBA JOHNNY will team up for afternoons. The "HOLLYWOOD & GOUMBA SHOW" is set to debut on TUESDAY (9/5) from 2p-6p. The announcement was made today by SVP/Programming & Marketing CCNY TOM POLEMAN and WKTU PD JEFF Z.
"By pairing HOLLYWOOD & GOUMBA in the afternoons, KTU brings back two hysterical heritage jocks that are sure to take the stress out of afternoon commutes," stated JEFF Z. "The show will feature not only the best dance music in NY, but the ultimate in laughs, entertainment, and much more."
"HOLLYWOOD and GOUMBA are two of KTU's most recognizable and successful jocks and their reunion is going to make for great radio," stated POLEMAN. "The plan is to surround our music with high profile personalities. Having them in afternoons, and WHOOPI and CUBBY in mornings completes KTU's drivetime bookends."
This marks the second pairing of the two at WKTU. Back when the station launched in 1996, HOLLYWOOD & GOUMBA were the number one rated show #25-54 for nights. After two years, they moved to mornings for a year.
Commented GOUMBA JOHNNY, "This is a great opportunity for me to reunite with KTU listeners and my original partner who gave me my break to get into radio."
Added HOLLYWOOD HAMILTON, "Having huge success in the past with GOUMBA and KTU, it's great to be back with him.... plus I needed the money."
GOUMBA JOHNNY has been with WKTU since the station launched in 1996 and recently served as the host of the "KTU BALTAZAR & GOUMBA JOHNNY MORNING SHOW." HOLLYWOOD HAMILTON most recently served as morning man at CBS RADIO Oldies KRTH (K-EARTH 101)/LOS ANGELES.
Starting 9/5, the new WKTU lineup includes: 5a-9a -- WAKE UP WITH WHOOPI 9-2p -- DIANE PRIOR 2-6p -- THE HOLLYWOOD & GOUMBA SHOW 6-10p -- VIC LATINO 10-2a -- KTU LATE NIGHTS 2-5a -- CHARLIE BURGER

When Hollywood Hamilton joins WKTU, that doesn't necessarily mean his Weekend Top 30 countdown will air there. WT30 are two shows, Pop and Rhythmic. KTU being Dance. Maybe the WT30 will air on sister stations (Urban) Power 105.1 or (Pop) Z100.

There's some rumors going around that KTU will be changing formats really soon. It apparently would be more WNEW-ish in its new format.

KTU has not exactly switched formats they have made a format "adjustment". Gone are 99% of the current dance tracks from the playlist. They are playing almost all dance oldies with some new music (mostly pop hits) and Riddler's mix show is still on. Not sure about the weekend mixes as they haven't aired since the adjustment.
They ran the Top 8 at 8 on Tuesday but it was gone on Wed.
So, say goodbye to the only current based dance station in NYC.

Then which existing terrestrial radio station would be given the title of the next major Dance station in the US?

KTU has gone from being an innovator to being nothing but an imitator. And in radio, chasing after another station's ratings is often the kiss of death.

U guys said it. KTU completely sucks right now and up until this point THINGS WERE GOIN VERY WELL Their playlist was variable, had a few recurrents, but hey its KTU. What they did play tho indeed had to strengthen their ratings
The return of pop muscic/pop remixes in addition to ktu favs and new upbeat freshbeats on the playlist looked as tho the year's end countdown was gonna be promising featuring all songs from no more than the last 2 years which is how it should be.
NOW WE'RE BACK TO SQUARE ONE: Copying MIX. In my opinion and i think alot of you can agree that the ratio of freestyle/disco to freshbeats and average dance songs should be reversed. These ppl think they know how to run a station when in all reality we have two of the same station occupying two frequencies. Talk about a waste of space, waste of time and its beginning to hurt the ears. I think I had it with KTU for sure. I jus kept giving them the benefit of the doubt. How could they change like this DIDN'T THEY SEE THEY WERE SUCCESSFUL? B4 i knew of this I was amazed to have seen Natasha's Unwritten added. This really justified that KTU was trying new genres and making it more enjoyable to listen to. Little did I know that a change was under way at the same exact time. I WANT THE REAL KTU; THE ONE B4 LABOR DAY, WHILE BEATSTOCK WAS HAPPENIN; THE ONE WITH A TOP 8@8!!!!!!
NO ONE'S GONNA HERE THE END OF THIS ONE!!!

This is the worst thing that could have ever happened... if they actually wind up changing formats. CC has gone too far now and something has to be done... ideas? There's not much that can be done. KTU has been going downhill for years now. They really really tried to make it look like they were still just as "innovative" as they once were. I think the final "nail in the coffin" was that "no repeat workday." What really can be done? I mean, we could write letters and stuff, but that's really not going to get much accomplished. CC's bottom line will always be to make more money than the previous year. We have to accept that it's the end of an era. Maybe NY will be lucky enough to get a "Energy", "Party" or "Diva" station in the near future.

In a weird way I called this a month or two back. What are the possibilities? Maybe 102.7 will throw in more new dance hits other than "All This Time" or "Be Without You." It's sad, but we can all find many, many other dance outlets.
KTU wasn't all that great even before the no repeat workday. In fact, I would say that it hasn't been decent since 1999 or so. Even in the early 2000s (although they were then much better than 2003 onward), new dance was very stale...tracks like "It Feels So Good," "Stranger In My House," and "It's Not Right But It's Okay" were played for months on end.
RIP KTU. And here's to hoping for a new dance outlet for the NYC market.

And the drama continues...
At Rico's board, someone mentioned that they talked to someone at WKTU and they said they knew nothing about a format change/programming change to WNEW's format. But if they were to, it's because WNEW might be switching formats in January. But they may keep mixshows for now.

Here is a message that I posted on the Radio-Info board as to what I believe is happening:
Just a guess here and something that Allan Sniffen (NY Radio Message Board) talks about in his podcast this week, but there is a bigger picture to be considered. Stations are not seperate entities in this day and age. They are part of a chain. This seems (to my untrained eyes) to be a chess match where they are trying to protect the queen (WLTW) from a format that they think might be able to take them down a few ratings points and out of some billing. Could that format be the "Movin" format? Quite possibly.
Maybe, another chain thinking of coming into NY with this type of format might think twice if there are already 2 NY stations playing a majority of the same records that they would be playing in the Movin format. NY is a rhythmic town (Hear that Jack-FM?) but it doesn't need 3 stations playing Rhythmic oldies. It doesn't even need two. But with WNEW already doing this sound, maybe they start to play a few of the poppier dance currents and draw some of the old KTU audience, putting any thoughts of flipping to Movin out of their heads (If that thought was ever in their heads to begin with). KTU still pulls in enough audience to remain a big biller with music aimed at the very specific female target demo. All of those people that migrated to WNEW for classics have already done it so KTU probably won't see a big erosion there. The current based KTU listener really has no where else to go on the dial so they either stay at KTU or cross the street, that part of the audience probably isn't sizable enough to make CC reconsider. Again, I know nothing and am just thinking out loud.
(end of post) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anyone that believes that KTU hasn't adjusted their playlist simply needs to listen to them. It's quite clear that 99% of the dance currents are history.
As for WNEW, no one can predict what they will do but they could pick up some billing by adding a handful of the more popular dance currents, therefore being the station that clubs go to for their adverstising.

From All Access:
PD Jeff Z, WKTU/N.Y. Split Amicably CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Rhythmic WKTU/NEW YORK and PD JEFF Z have decided to go their separate ways. In announcing JEFF's departure to CLEAR CHANNEL staffers, CLEAR CHANNEL Sr. VP/Programming & Marketing TOM POLEMAN commented, "JEFF has been a vital member of the KTU team. For close to 11 years, he's poured his full energy and passion into the station. And for that, we'll be forever thankful." Expect a new WKTU PD announcement soon.
What's next for JEFF Z? He's got all his options open and has some irons in the fire. On OCTOBER 21st, JEFF and fiance SABRINA will marry and take off for a few weeks in BORA BORA, so don't expect a lot of info until they couple returns from their honeymoon.

From All Access:
CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Rhythmic WKTU/NEW YORK has appointed sister AC WALK/LONG ISLAND PD ROB MILLER the station's new PD, filling the void left by JEFF Z's departure (NET NEWS 9/28). MILLER will remain WALK's PD, as well. The MILLER announcement, which will see him take the WKTU PD reins officially on OCTOBER 2nd, was made today by CC/NEW YORK Pres./Market Manager ROB WILLIAMS and SVP/Programming & Marketing TOM POLEMAN.
Said POLEMAN, "We're excited to have ROB take on this additional responsibility at KTU. He's proven himself as an incredible programmer, strategist, and leader. It's time to bring his magic down the LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY to NYC."
WILLIAMS stated, "ROB is an extremely talented programmer, and we are thrilled to be able to give him the opportunity to grow within the N.Y. Market. We look forward to having him join KTU."
MILLER, who's been at WALK for the past 17 years (serving as PD for the last five), remarked, "I was a fan of KTU’s from the moment I heard the station launch on 103.5 back in 1996. I’m thrilled that ROB and TOM have given me the opportunity to program one of most legendary stations in NEW YORK and to work with such an amazing team. To be able to do what you love so much every single day in the greatest city in the world is simply amazing!"

Ok, so maybe he'll breathe new life into the station. Or...KTU will go AC? I'm not sure what this means exactly, but I guess I'll know tomorrow.
