"Do You Wish It Was Me?" comes to mind immediately when I try to think of his worst song... The production sounds so tinny and cheap, and the key that this song is in is absolutely terrible. I'm all for weird keys, but this one is just done in a super grating way.
But wait, I had a song lower than this??!??!?!!
*Goes to check list*
Oh yeah... Hmm, DYWIWM probably lucked out here...

"Do You Wish It Was Me?" is absolutely dreadful. Such a discordant mess of a song, and releasing it at the time that they did when he had no momentum at country radio and desperately needed something safe and hit-worthy to get him back on track, effectively killed any hope of that ever happening. The odds of him getting another hit were already really slim, but they made sure of it with that release, lol.

Yassss, at least my real last place didn't go on to do super well!!! This song is just so bad. It's not cringey-bad in the sense of "Do You Wish It Was Me?", but it is just bad because of its complete and utter lack of substance. The melody is annoying, the instrumentation is awful, the lyrics offer nothing, the production is trying to sound overly polished while also sounding really cheap...
Lol really just an absolute mess of a song. So glad it's leaving now.

I thought "Hangover Tonight" would've been a little bit higher, at least above "Runaway."

Okay I need old Gary to start losing more songs. Pre-2003 Gary needs to go except for one song I really like. Y'all were a little too harsh on a few of these - especially Do You Wish It Was Me? - i still really liked that one.

I expected it to be out in the bottom 5 so I'm not super upset but the song is amazing IMO. The chorus is melodic heaven. I also quite like the production/instrumentation and don't find it jarring in the least. Sounds like a typical Gary Allan song to me.

Okay I need old Gary to start losing more songs. count me in with this sentiment. Pre-2003 Gary is great. "Smoke Rings In The Dark", "It Would Be You", "Right Where I Need To Be", "Her Man", and "Lovin' You Against My Will"

OMG, "Living In A House Full Of Love" was by far my favorite discovery of this whole rankdown! The melody is so flippin' catchy!!! This is '90s country at its finest. How can y'all dislike this one so much??? If George Strait had sang this it would have been a multi-week #1 hit, without question (and probably a top 20 contender in his rankdown).
"Pieces" is one that I expected to leave early. I never really liked it when it was on the radio. That being said, when listening to it for this rankdown I enjoyed it a lot more than I remembered! I ended up putting it a good 5 positions higher than I had expected to.

Nah, if it sounded like a typical Gary Allan song, it wouldn't be terrible. If you weren't impartial to songs in a major key, you wouldn't be terrible.

Album Track Reveal
#7. "The Devil's Candy" (Alright Guy)
Qualifying Votes: 5 #1 Votes: 0Voters: Kanenrá:ke, sabre14, Cody Wants Out..., someguy, timgardyfan, phil1996, zack97, George Strait Junkie, gonecountry, bboat11, castleoblivion26, kw9461, austin, Drummer's girl, .indulgecountry, zaclord 🌈, Andy, toomuchboy, dub, LBTrocksThis has always been one of my favorite album tracks from Gary. I never really thought it would be a single (then again, I was 11 the first time I heard it), but it's a clever lyric, great production and the opening fiddle is terrific.

I know people are a fan of "Kiss Me When I'm Down" but I would'v chosen this as the third single from that album.

Yay the album track selections so far have been great! "The Devil's Candy" is so so great! I'm not shocked with any of the reveals so far even though I think 2 of them were done very dirty. 33. "Please Come Home For Christmas" - There's literally a handful of Christmas songs I like and this isn't one of them. Gary sounds good on it at least. 32. "She's So California" - One of if not the most puzzling single choices of his career, such a great album with many good choices but this one wouldn't have been for me. phil1996's assessment is dead on. 31. "Do You Wish It Was Me?" - Love this one. It was jarring for the first 2 listens but once I got it it quickly became a favorite of mine. I wish this had been able to do more on radio. 30. "Hangover Tonight" - I like this one a lot, but it was a little uneventful for a single choice. 29. "Living In A House Full Of Love" - Such a hidden gem, it's killing me that it's out this early. 28. "Pieces" - Like "She's So California" I didn't quite understand why this was chosen as a single but I do like this one a lot more. Still not sad it's out here.

I actually prefer Radey Foster’s original version of “Half of My Mistakes” since that’s how I was introduced to the song on Texas radio, but Gary’s version is almost just as good. It most certainly should’ve been a single over “She’s So California.” I also prefer Radney Foster's original of this song and had heard it before Gary recorded it. I remember when I saw this song on the tracklist for that album I was super excited to hear his version and while I like his version a lot it never compared to Radney's version. Gary does sound great on it and I would have loved to have seen it become a single, especially over "She's So California", which should have been #33 Jace Everett has a good version of the song too! I personally think I like his the best.
#28 - "Runaway" - I appreciate Gary exploring a different sound on this one, but I never cared for it much. When I'm in the mood for it I can enjoy this one but usually I skip it.

I'll have to check Jace Everett's version because it is a great song! "Runaway" is a great song but definitely near the bottom of the list with these songs so I'm good with it going here. Also "The Devil's Candy" is great, I have always enjoyed that one a lot.
