An interesting way to see how well a song has held up in the collective conscious is to see how its streaming numbers compare to other songs past their prime. So every week, this thread will be used to see how a different set of songs are holding up past their prime. Each week we'll get a new theme of songs to watch.

This week, we'll look at #1 pop hits of 2015. All of these songs reached the top position on Mediabase's CHR/Top 40 airplay chart in 2015. Below are their current totals. Note that any multiple versions will be combined together, and you can view the breakdown as well. Next week, we'll see how their totals increased and get a new set of songs.

It would be interesting to see the daily stats too. Taylor's songs will still be impacted that - Safe & Sound which is one of the few songs of hers that wasn't removed from Spotify is on more playlists with 1000+ followers

Cheerleader and Lean On benefitted hugely from Spotify playlists at the time (probably the most in Spotify history, although there's a few others like Zara Larsson - Lush Life and Kygo - Firestone). Now that they're not on all the playlists anymore they've fallen behind other songs.

Interesting to note:

The newest song ("Uptown Funk") is the only song on this list to have been released during streaming's takeover/the massive decline of digital sales, and it has the highest total.

The two songs whose initial runs that pre-date the digital era ("Don't Stop Believin'" and "Lose Yourself") are #4 and #5.

Some of these songs got high streams in 2017 for specific reasons. For example, Ariana Grande because of the Manchester inceident, the Linkin Park songs because of Chester's death (although Numb/Encore gets huge recurrent streams in the UK anyway, so it could have still been #1 for 2004 regardless), some of these more surprising songs have been in high profile spots on Spotify playlists, You Don't Know Me was originally released in 2016, but blew up in 2017 so outstreamed songs like One Dance from the same year. For the non-Taylor songs, most of those playlist additions were made in 2015-2016. If you get a lot of exposure from your song smashing on Spotify and getting on TTH, Rap Caviar, Teen Party, etc then it'll get added onto hundreds of these lower tier 1,000 to 200,000 follower playlists. Those smaller playlists are mostly user rather than Spotify curated and if a song gets added to them, it rarely gets removed so they can provide great streaming longevity.

The Taylor Swift songs do occasionally get placed onto Hit Rewind and similar playlists so hopefully that helps remind Spotify users that they exist, but the impact is still a lot less than being on 15+ such playlists during a song's main Spotify chart run. The reputation singles got a lot of good long-term lower tier playlist adds but the 1989 singles are still mostly being overlooked. In the last month, Style got added to one 1000+ follower playlist, Wildest Dreams got no additions, meanwhile End Game got added to 6 despite it's Spotify chart run being since February.
