Oh god if BTS actually get it twitter will be unusable for the next few days... But if they don’t it’ll be unuseable forever. BTS stans will never live it down. I have never read about BTS on twitter outisde of the random Billboard article popping up here and there, so you're probably following the wrong people. I don't think their fans have gotten quite as inescapable as Beliebers or Directioners on their prime.

I've been annoyed by Billboard's constant coverage of BTS (which is now justified by their success, I suppose), but I've never held it against the group itself. Could any of the BTS haters please explain their problem?

I've been annoyed by Billboard's constant coverage of BTS (which is now justified by their success, I suppose), but I've never held it against the group itself. Could any of the BTS haters please explain their problem? Part of it I'm sure is their annoying as hell fanbase. But personally I don't see much special about them. They pull from a lot of American trends and not particularly well. It's not like their vocals or flows are impressive, their bars when rapping aren't punchy or have a lot of depth (from what I heard), and their production a lot of the time is just like the dreary sounds I've heard from American hip-hop.

Could any of the BTS haters please explain their problem? Not sure how the album potentially hitting #1 justifies the constant coverage since Post Malone has been #1 for 3 weeks and not gotten nearly the coverage. I have nothing against BTS itself, but I do have a general dislike for overhype.

Even if BTS gets the #1 this week, it’s crazy how many weeks Post Malone has managed to stay strong for.

I mean, I didn’t want to have to be the one to say it... Already went there. To wish a musty white male to be number one for a fourth week over a Kpop band that has been trying for years to break into the stale US market is blasphemous. Hate the rabid fans but not the artist.

The fan base and hype for them is what I dislike about them.

At least there's a race to #1 to make it more exciting because well the albums chart has been so boring to monitor lately
I'm also annoyed with the overhype Billboard does for BTS but I think it would be nice for an Asian act to get that #1. Who/What act was the last one to do so?
I believe this is also the week The Greatest Showman will likely cross 1M pure sales

I believe Charice in 2010 was the first Asian artist to hit the Top 10.

I, however, don't need to see articles about BTS every time I get on the Internet when that coverage is about a lyric to a song, offstage moments, voting on how they rank against N Sync and BSB (literally wtf?), etc. But I know that's the culture we live in now; everything has to be a big headline, clickbait, etc. It's nauseating to me, especially when there is a worthy headline (an Asian group having success in the U.S.) that doesn't seem to be getting much coverage.

BTS' edge will likely be physical album sales. Korean and Japanese pop acts are still selling physical units in their countries because they make their CDs a premium fan merchandise and I think BTS will do the same in the US and let's see if this type of marketing can work in the US

Double Fantasy by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1980, though this could largely be attributable of course to John's popularity and recent death, as it went #1 right after, and none of Yoko's solo stuff did nearly as well. I was wondering more about BTS's fanbase though. Since they are a K-Pop band, would it be incorrect to assume that the majority of it's fanbase in America is Korean-American? And if so, I was wondering if they (as well as Koreans in Korea or anywhere in the world for that matter) are known for being particularly fan-crazy for their favorite pop acts?

What boyband isn't more hype than actual good music? It's all formulatic trend-chasing catchiness ang hype propelled by charismatc cute boys, and backed by a rabidly annoying fanbase. Let these (mostly) young girls have their fun and stop being grumps.
Like One Direction was groundbreaking. Please.

There is a whole culture associated with k-pop, c-pop, and j-pop fandoms. And it goes well beyond just having a fave. Their fans know absolutely every detail about them, there are whole communities online dedicated to fan fiction related to their favorite groups, it's really intense and has no analogue outside of Asia.

Lol I was just thinking how cool it would be to have something new hit #1 and how I am unsure if a Korean act has ever had the #1 spot on the Billboard top 200. I had no idea they had so many people hating on them or that people genuinely want Post Malone to be #1 forever for some reason lmao. I will admit I have always been the type that liked changes happening at #1 and different artists getting there though. Its so boring to me when one person is #1 for more than like, 2 weeks and I am including artists I love.
Anyway, I am assuming they will capsize next week so it would be fun to see them get it this week.

It's odd how girl groups (their female counterparts), I haven't seen the same disrespect for. I could be wrong though, just my observation.

It's really great to see BTS even being in the contention for #1! As an Asian, it's really refreshing to see Asian acts (and Asian American acts as well, I was really happy when "Like a G6" hit #1 on the Hot 100 back in 2010) doing well on the charts because they are generally underrepresented in the Western music industry in general. As a fan of K-pop too, I'm really happy that this is happening. Now if my favorite K-pop groups could do the same thing...

Really hope BTS can get to #1, would be a groundbreaking achievement for a K-Pop act if they did so! And hopefully would help pave the way for others *_*

Well, obviously, there'd be far less Asians than say, blacks or whites, since they make up higher portions of the population. Despite being Asian, I don't have this need to see acts with a similar racial background do well. I don't get it.

Maybe actually explain it rather than the inherent (and kinda stupid) hostility? Why should someone give a shit about the race of the musician? For me, it's just: Do I like them? Cool if they succeed. Do I hate them? Well, they can flop time and time again for all I care. I don't see why race has to matter so much, when you know... Quality should come first.

We know race doesn't matter to you. We have a whole R. Kelly/Spotify thread to thank for that.
