Thrilled for these guys. I thought it was a foregone conclusion these guys were getting dropped after their last album got no support whatsoever. This is nowhere near my favorite from them, but it's still quite good. Great to see that a return to more of their old sound paid off for them. Now I just hope radio buys in on their next single so we can get another studio album.

I will say good for them. But with that being said I wonder if these guys will be David Lee Murphy or Scotty McCreery.
This song was a pretty modest hit for a #1. But I can definitely see the next single having a bit more moment.

Now I don't think their comeback will be as big as Scotty McCreery's has been, but I'd say they are more Scotty than David Lee Murphy. DLM might've gotten a number one song, but there's no way that song breaks the top 20 if it wasn't for Kenny Chesney being on the song. It was promoted as a DLM single, but radio treated it as a Kenny single. The EYB did this all on their own merit which is impressive, interesting and intriguing.

This is catchy background noise for radio, but I'm surprised it's been a big enough hit to get EYB all the way back on top of the charts after five and a half years of obscurity. It's just so forgettable. Don't get me wrong, I think forgettable, innocent, inoffensive elevator music is exactly what radio wants these days, but I'm surprised that such material would be able to take a name as close to irrelevance as these guys all the way back to #1. I think this type of song is plenty enough to get a Chris Young or Cole Swindell consistently into the top 5, but usually when I think of the type of song that can sort of re-break through an act that's been forgotten about, I think of "Every Storm" or "Five More Minutes." Something a little more special and attention-grabbing. I'm still skeptical to say that EYB will stick around much longer, however. I haven't heard any of their other material yet. That being said, if EYB is to keep scoring hits, I do think they need to avoid another "Say Goodnight" or "Turn It On" and stick with something that will test well and not stick out like a sore thumb. They can't afford to take any more risks at this point in their career, as much as I'd prefer "Crazy Girl" or "Always the Love Songs" over something generic like this.\
Research is really what helped this to become a big hit. Last week it was the #4 testing current on the Mediabase callout chart with only 12% burn. That and early support from the Cumulus block that helped this blast onto the chart as soon as it was released to radio.

Not sure why they didn’t capitalize on this song being a hit with an album release. It’s not a guarantee that the next single will even be successful & if it is a hit we are still talking 8-12 months before that song hits the top of the charts.

They did put out an album, even if it is a greatest hits.

Because they had already decided on a Greatest Hits before this single was released. They didn’t have new music ready to put out. I’m not even sure BMLG would’ve stuck with EYB if this floundered, so this single was a prove it deal. They needed this hit.

We're probably moving away from singles. Labels will just put out music, try to sell it, and move on if it fails.
