Has a former #1 song ever done what "Seven Nation Army" has done? It has moved back UP the past FOUR weeks! 11-10*-9-8*-7.
I'm surprised this isn't affecting "The Hardest Button To Button" all that much.

This wouldn't be happening if either of the two circumstances had occurred:
1. There were any other radio-friendly tracks on the Elephant album 2. The Strokes put out a first single that was good.

1. There were any other radio-friendly tracks on the Elephant album I have to disagree with you there. The Air Near My Fingers, In The Cold, Cold Night (which features Meg White's vocals BTW) and Ball and Biscuit all seem like potential hits to me, at least if they're properly promoted. That last song might be a tad longish even for alt/rock, but it could easily be edited down to four or five minutes for radio. It's got a driving beat and is easily one of the best blues/rock numbers I've heard in years. When I put that song on around people who haven't heard it they always like it (although I admit that good blues is always popular here in the South) and want to know more about it. I think it's probably the best track on this excellent album; it'll be a shame if it isn't released as a single.

The guitar work is excellent, let me add. The only thing is its length. which, at over seven minutes, could affect its radio success.

I think "There No Home For Here" or whatever the title is would be a great single. The album has several potential singles. I like "In The Cold, Cold Night" and I didnt even know that was Meg White singing. I hope she sings more on future albums

I can't comment on potential singles since I don't have the album, but I will tell this (sort of) funny story: Back when the album was just out and practically every track showed up at the bottom of the Mediabase list, I saw a song listed "Girl, You Have No Fa...". Before I saw the tracklisting, I thought the full title was "Girl, You Have No Father".

I just listened to "The Air Near My Fingers" again the other day because the solo sections were stuck in my head and I wanted to see how radio-friendly it was. At first I was thinking it would work, but then I realized that due to the way it's structured, there isn't any kind of musical payoff until towards the end, so it doesn't seem like a worthy choice to me.
In today's climate, "In the Cold, Cold Night" wouldn't work at all on rock radio.
"Ball and Biscuit" would have to be severely edited, which I'm not sure the White Stripes would be willing to do.
The problem with "There's No Home for You Here" is that it sounds almost exactly like "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground."
laguy03, if you didn't know it was Meg singing "ITCCN," who did you think was singing it?
I'm not gonna go through all the other tracks, but I concur with crash that there aren't any other radio-friendly tracks on Elephant. I didn't even think "THBTB" was radio-friendly, but magazine hype helps them maintain success on radio fairly easily in a rock radio climate with no surefire hit sound.

I believe ITCCN would be a great choice for a single. It is somewhat refreshing to hear Meg sing for a change.
