What are some artists’ eras that ended strangely early, despite there being many more potential hits on the album?
The first one I can think of is Bruno Mars’ Doo Woops and Hooligans. It still blows my mind how they only went 3 singles deep when there were many more smashes on the album. Marry Me is often considered one of the most successful album tracks of the 2010s and probably would have smashed if given an official release, but aside from that I think The Other Side has huge hit potential (especially since CeeLo and B.O.B. were hot at the time), and aside from that, Runaway Baby and Liquor Store Blues could have also done pretty well as a single methinks.
Another era with smashes left on the table, though to a lesser extent, is Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz. Sure, Adore You was probably not the best single choice and stalled her momentum a bit, but they were only 3 deep into the era as well and should have released at least one more single, probably FU or Drive (though I suppose Drive may be one ballad too many coming off Wrecking Ball and Adore You).

Starboy. The entire album was single-worthy but it was handled poorly.

Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 Granted, the sound was getting a little stale but Cash Out could have easily became a smash hit

Starboy. The entire album was single-worthy but it was handled poorly. At least at Pop/CHR I didn’t get what was going on, with two top 5 hits and nothing else. “Party Monster” was big at Rhythmic/R&B so why not pop? It took a later Kendrick Lamar collab to get things going at CHR again.

Christina Aguilera's Back To Basics era end two singles too early. We needed "Slow Down Baby" the sequel to "Ain't No Other Man". If she had at least promoted more in the Us she could have passed 2 million in sales.
Britney's Glory Album could have yielded at least two more singles. That album had so much potential.
Despite issues that she may have been facing, Demi calling off "Tell Me You Love Me" not even a year into its release was unacceptable.

Loud - Rihanna They barely promoted most of the singles. Barely promoting singles is different than the topic question of an era ending too early. Loud had 6-7 singles promoted in some way, so I don't see how it can be classified as ending too early.

Pretty much any album era of Kelly's after Breakaway. My December deserved some kind of push in North America after "Never Again" (I don't count "Sober" as an official single since its released was cancelled according to Kelly). It's obscene that a hit like "Already Gone" was followed by a radio-only single with no promotion. Stronger fizzled after "Dark Side," but I'm not up in arms about that because it was one of her longer-ish eras and she had a successful follow-ups with her GH and Christmas albums. I have no clue what's the deal with her current era. She has all this visibility but no current single.

Loud - Rihanna They barely promoted most of the singles. Huh? “Only Girl (In The World)” “What’s My Name?” And “S&M” were all huge and well promoted, there were also three other singles from the album that all received videos...This was a 6 single album, 7 if you count “Love The Way You Lie”. LOUD is the antithesis of “ending too soon”.

huh? 24k was released in 2016 and spawned a hit in 2018? My point being I think he could have had more hits from it. I interpreted ending early to mean ending when the project still had hit potential.

huh? 24k was released in 2016 and spawned a hit in 2018? They could release all the songs from 24k as singles and it would still end too early for me personally

Every song on Let Go is a smash. They should have sent a fifth single after "Losing Grip."

Janet's All for You album had so many potential hit smashes. They only released 3 singles and the 3rd single (Son of a Gun) was the wrong choice AND came way too late after Someone to Call My Lover. Songs like Come On Get Up, Feels So Right, Trust A Try, etc should have been singles. She could have went 6 singles deep with this album, especially when All For You the single was massive and Someone To Call My Lover was very big as well.

Tell Me You Love Me - literally what. Released in September with there already being the next single The album had two singles only that were both pretty successful, it also had so much potential (Ruin The Friendship, Daddy Issues, You Don't Do It For Me Anymore or even Sexy Dirty Love) They could've easily gone at least 4 singles deep but naah
Also some Rihanna eras The first two I can excuse, she wasn't popular enough Talk That Talk - sure they released 6 singles off the album but damn it had so much more potential (Drunk On Love, Roc Me Out, Farewell) Unapologetic - yes 7 singles again lol but they barely promoted and 'Lost In Paradise'... Seriously Anti - uuuh 4 singles only 3 of which did anything, Desperado!?! But other possibilities could've been Consideration while SZA blew up or Sex With Me

People naming Rihanna eras with 7 singles has got to be a joke.
Surprised no one has named EM-O-TION by C.R. Jepsun.

Tell Me You Love Me (at least another single would have been cool) ANTI ("Desperado") Starboy ("Secrets", "Rockin'") Dangerous Woman ("Be Alright", although that would have probably worked much better instead of "Everyday" and not following it) 7/27 (Fifth Harmony - "Write On Me" would have been a good single) Know It All (Alessia Cara - "I'm Yours" is great).

Madonna's Music album for sure. The first two singles had done really well and WIFLFAG did okay. But she and her label disagreed over a fourth single (Label - Amazing/Madge - Impressive Instant) so I guess they decided to just end the era and rake in the money from the Drowned World Tour. IMO, Madge had better taste in single choices as the Ray of Light-esque "Amazing" would've likely flopped and "Runaway Lover" could've done something with a hawt video too. I came in here just to post this!!

Bionic, Lotus, and Liberation. It seems that the label just gives up after one or two singles underperform and then they just don't try to do anything to turn that around. I know it does cost money to promote and release singles and shoot videos and stuff but it's not like the label is poor. All 3 albums had enough singleworthy songs on them and they just did nothing.

In addition to the label not being poor, I always wonder why artists don't just put in some of their own money when the labels are being stingy and don't want to help. I mean a lot of artists are LOADED, some of these girls have over 200 million networth so spending like 300K on an epic video for your career I feel is totally worth it.

Donna Summer- "Bad Girls" era. She released 2 number 1's and a num.2 single and the label moved on to a GH's project. She wasn't excited that her own song from the GH's project her duet with BaBs "No More Tears (enough is enough) kind of halted promo of it. She wrote it herself and had intended on giving it to Rod Stewert but recorded it herself so she was hoping "Dim All The lights hit the top spot but it peaked at num.2 for 2 weeks.
I also thought some of MiMi's era's were ended a little early too. I thought both "Musicbox and Daydream" had more potential. "Emotions" maybe could of too but I can see why they ended it when they did.
