I echo this 100%. Yes the song is basic, vague, and cliche. But so what? How can we legitimately find fault in this topic? Is it cliche to say "I love you" to your significant other on a regular basis? YES IT IS. I literally do not know a single person who has been affected by a hate crime. Not a single person. I don't know anyone who's even OWNED a gun. I don't mean to stray off topic, and no offense, but do you ever leave your house? I live in rural smalltown New England and I've seen first hand racial hate crimes, gender hate crimes, senseless gun violence, etc. And futhermore I am personally one of about 20 people I know who owns guns. And I don't really socialize with that many people...

I am just speechless to the insanity that has been said in this thread. It’s actually comical. There is just no way that this person has never experienced anything in their life. Like, what is happening? And a church organist? Jesus isn’t speaking to them very well.
Anyway, “Love Wins”, hope it does well, sells more albums for Carrie.

Christmas is just over three months away. I’m asking Santa for a Carrie Underwood thread that doesn’t get derailed.

Carrie generally sells well (respective of the sales climate), and should through the holidays, hopefully.

On album sales, the album was bundled with ticket sales for her upcoming tour, so that should help boost the sales tremendously.

The post directly above mine mentioned Carrie sells generally well, so I figured I'd tack on to how the tour bundle would help her general sales.

Should we be worried about this on the radio? Can't believe it is still not Top 50.

It actually was on the chart, I think yesterday. It just didn't have a radio deal so it didn't skyrocket into the top 40. Give it time.
I'm glad it's rising on it's own, I've actually noticed a ton of songs given the big radio deal push this year have severely suffered from it and underperformed (Sam, Carrie, Garth, Cole, Sugarland, Eric, etc).

Yeah not sure what's going on.
Did it have a deal last week? That's the only explanation I can think of.

It’s probably going to fall out of the top 40 on Billboard on the next chart then :’(

Didnt she gave like a deal with Nashville radio to play the song every hour last week? I read it somewhere (probably from CF).
Maybe thats the reason why it lost many spins 2 days ago.

I did see a radio station tweet saying it was being played every other hour or something.

No, this song didn’t get any significant hourly airplay last week. Maybe a few stations gave it hourly spins, but it wasn’t a lot of stations.

It's weird how radio seems resistant to her this era as compared to normal.

It's interesting to me that nowadays completely non-country songs from even superstar country staple artists like Carrie are sent to country radio and hardly anyone even mentions it. Regardless of anyone's liking the song or not for it's message, tone, Carrie's voice, whatever, that is what I find interesting. I guess country radio has just sort of lost it's identity of actual country music. This isnt a knock on Carrie either, it's just she's the biggest female in country for a while now and even she seems to have come to the point of not feeling it's necessary to be actual country in a song to be considered country.

Well, what's "country" now has changed. It's not like the music on country radio now would fit another radio format in 2018.

I will say that the whole genre argument always has its place, within reason. I never have too big of an issue with the genre thing unless recent songs (like 2015 to 2018) in other genres like Pop,Rock, etc sound more country than what is currently labelled country. Nothing I have heard from Carrie Underwood's latest album sounds too out of bounds in the realm of country music. Where as Keith Urban's last couple of albums seem a bit too out there and sound very out of the realm and I can pull other songs in other genres that sound more country.
Does anyone think the slight drawback in radio performance, is the album hype and album being released last week? Best theory I have.

Yes, true. That's what I meant that country music has lost its identity as such. At least on what is supposed to be country radio. I kind of miss being able to change radio stations to hear different formats and immediately recognizing and enjoying the country style. Its hard to find that nowadays and it's just not the same, with streaming. I miss the station breaks and the patter of the local DJ introducing the songs and talking random stuff on breaks.
Anyway, sorry for my sort of off-topic rambling. Good luck to Carrie on this. I hope she does well, but that her next single is one I like more.

I kind of miss being able to change radio stations to hear different formats and immediately recognizing and enjoying the country style. I agree what is 'country' now is fairly removed from more traditional country, but I think country radio is still very identifiable. "Cry Pretty" would not sound normal on Top 40 radio. Neither would Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, etc.

Yes it still sounds different but I guess I'm just an fuddy fuddy. I just miss the country of the 80s and 90 and even early 2000s. And I miss the feel and companionship and feeling of human connection of radio back then.

And I miss the feel and companionship and feeling of human connection of radio back then. I totally understand your feeling. But trust me, I remember when people complained about 90s country not being what it used to be. I belonged to AOL country message boards and people said over and over how country was ruined and not what it used to be. I think a lot of people are like me - they like the sound best they grew up with/got them listening to country.
