Darren Hayes, 100% Back when he released Spin he cared more, because obviously coming off of Savage Garden's success it was needed, but The Tension and the Spark was entirely for him and his listening audience. He knew he'd lose a massive amount of his Savage Garden fans, but he didn't care. He severed ties with a major label so he could go out on his own and release This Delicate Thing We've Made which for me is the holy grail of music and nothing will ever surpass it for me personally. He promoted it, obviously, but he lost money making and promoting the album and has said countless times that he'd do it all again in a heartbeat because chart performance wasn't a contributing factor when he made the album. He gave zero shits about what others wanted, that was his project, his baby and it shows. He came back to trying a little with Secret Codes and Battleships but he didn't go above and beyond to promote it or push it to radio, he just did what he wanted and still held the creative reigns. In the middle of his solo career was where he really just said fuck it and started making music for himself. It's not like he isn't still getting Savage Garden royalty checks, which thank god for that, without it I'm sure Delicate would have never existed and I'd be a miserable soul without that masterpiece. End rant.

I'd say Drake because at this point pretty much anything he released is going to chart and get popular. So I'd be surprised if he really cared because it's his usual thing now.
