Sir Paul McCartney should score for the week's biggest debut with his latest Capitol set, Egypt Station, but it appears that Eminem will repeat at #1. Paul McCartney (Capitol) 115-125k total activity, 110-120k album Lauren Daigle (Centricity/Capitol Music Group) 90-100k, 85-90k Russ (Columbia) 70-80k, 55-60k $uicideBoy$ (G59/Caroline) 40-50k, 30-35k Clutch (Weathermaker) 22-25k, 21-24k We also note strong bows for singer/songwriter Lauren Daigle, whose Look Up Child is currently #1 at iTunes and whose track "You Say" has been a brisk, steady seller, not to mention Columbia's Russ and Caroline's $uicideboy$, both of which are also on the digital sales leaderboard. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=313311

Glad to see Em possibly notching another week at #1. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Christian album debut with 6 digits in my time watching the charts. When was the last time that happened?

Good for Paul McCartney. Good to see him getting those numbers almost 60 years into his career.

Wow. This is an incredible week. More people should be talking.
We have a rapper who is well into his 40s that many people said was done with his career just mere months now now repeating at #1 and his 2nd week will still be higher than most artists first weeks!
We have another artist who has been releasing music for 6 or 7 decades doing over 100k in actual SALES.
We have a underappreciated genre getting one of its biggest debuts ever. A very cool feat for a young up-and-coming artist as well to see such reception like this.
This is one of the best chart weeks in weeks/months/maybe years!

Yes, I find this chart week quite impressive as well. It's possible we get three albums with over 100,000 units. And quite a bit of it seems to be pure sales. It'll be Lauren Daigle's first Top 10 album. I'm impressed McCartney is selling so much when someone like Elton John can't anymore.

Paul McCartney's Carpool Karaoke special was received well weeks ago, probably helped a little to promote that he has new music coming out. Glad he is selling this well!
Also nice to see a new artist do well

This is also a good way to promote your album.

Lauren Daigle is outdoing the most recent albums from Selena and Miley in pure sales, thats pretty impressive considering the lack of name recongition.

Russ would also surpass his previous album's debut week (49k SPS/24k pure sales). He also only has 2 songs chart in the Hot 100 as an artist.
Not to mention all five debuts mentioned in the article with more than 10k in pure sales and with most of their SPS from that source.

Paul's album has been promoted very well. I'd say he's a lot 'cooler' now than he's been in a long time. I was hoping "Come On To Me" would sneak in a week on the Hot 100 but it seems highly unlikely. Great to see the album off to such a good start though!

Glad to see Em possibly notching another week at #1. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Christian album debut with 6 digits in my time watching the charts. When was the last time that happened? All the Christian #1 albums, according to Billboard: NF's Perception, 55k units in 2017 (According to Wikipedia: "NF is a Christian, but does not consider himself a Christian rapper. He was signed to a Christian record label, and his music is popular among the Christian music scene.") Lecrae's Anomaly, 88k sales in 2014 Chris Tomlin's Burning Lights, 73k sales in 2013 TobyMac's Eye On It, 69k sales in 2012 LeAnn Rimes's You Light Up My Life: Inspirational Songs, 186k sales in 1997 Bob Carlisle's Butterfly Kisses, 233.5k sales in 1997 (not a debut week) From Billboard magazine in the first week of You Light Up My Life: "The new Rimes set opens at No. 1 on the Top Contemporary Christian albums chart, making her the first country artist to debut at No. 1 there. Rimes becomes the ninth artist to enter the chart at No. 1 since we converted Top Contemporary Christian to SoundScan data in June 1995, but her new album boasts the largest number of units of any of those titles. Previously, the record for number of units during a debut week was set in the Dec. 9, 1995, issue, when dc Talk entered at the top with 'Jesus Freak' (Forefront) at 86,000 pieces. Rimes becomes the first female in the SoundScan era to debut at No. 1 on that chart."

If McCartney hits #1, it'd be his first #1 album since 1982's Tug of War - a 36 year gap. What's the longest gap any artist has between #1 albums?

Yes, technically Paul McCartney's last #1 album on the Billboard 200 would be the Beatles #1 album from 2000.

Anybody have an idea regarding why Upchurch's most recent album is currently #1 in iTunes?

I’m not into gospel music, but I have heard of Lauren Daigle before, such as on Billboard and iTunes Charts. Therefore, what does she bring to the table that puts her above other gospel artists that can get her to sell almost 100k units in one week, let alone her first week? I’ve heard “You Say” and it sounds much like other gospel songs I’ve heard, so I would like to understand what separates her from other artists in her genre that would give her a gigantic pull like she has, if anyone has any idea of that...

I wouldn't call her gospel, she's christian contemporary. I'd compare the distinction to Americana vs Country. Her debut was VERY well received, she had 2 #1 singles from it and ended up at #62 on the year end BB200 with no crossover success and is certified platinum. The 3 singles from the album are also certified gold. That's ALOT of sales for a Christian album. She won a bunch of DOVE awards for it and has toured with HillSong, Aaron Shust, and For King & Country. Basically she's been putting in a lot of work and it's paying off.

Honestly, the LeAnn Rimes album is marginally Christian - It has the Star Spangled Banner and a cover of The Rose on it. But it did come on the heals of her massively popular debut album. The Bob Carlisle album obviously had the huge crossover hit (Hot 100 #10) that shares the album's name.

Capitol's Sir Paul McCartney has opened up a lead in this week's chart battle and appears to be on his way to his first #1 debut as a solo artist. Stay tuned for details, and also for photos of Steve Barnett in a Beatle wig.
