From Variety:
Maroon 5 will be the halftime performers at the 2019 Super Bowl, two sources confirm to Variety. Reps for the group and the NFL could not immediately be reached for comment.
While the group is stylistically more similar to recent performers like Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars than more controversial ones such as Beyonce and Lady Gaga, Maroon 5’s most recent hit was a tag-team with Cardi B — “I Like It,” named one of the top songs of the summer by recent streaming service charts — and it recently collaboration with Kendrick Lamar on the song “Don’t Wanna Know,” so some left-field guest appearances on Super Bowl Sunday are certainly a possibility.
One of the great challenges in choosing a halftime performer isn’t just its mainstream appeal, but in finding an artist who hasn’t already performed. Over the years, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, U2, The Who, Katy Perry and even the Black Eyed Peas have all performed, and of course the 2004 set from Janet Jackson (featuring Timberlake) was marred by controversy due to her “wardrobe malfunction.” Prince’s 2007 performance — which saw him playing a galvanizing version of “Purple Rain” in a rainstorm — is widely regarded as the all-time best halftime set.
The NFL has faced an additional challenge this year due to its stance regarding former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s decision to take a knee during the National Anthem as a sign of protest, which has spurred outrage in some quarters, from the president on down. Kaepernick has not played since the 2016 season and his contract has not been picked up by another team, largely due to the controversy. Reports emerged last year that Jay-Z had turned down an offer to perform during halftime, which he seemingly confirmed in the lyrics to his recent song with Beyonce, “Apesh–“: “I said no to the Super Bowl: you need me, I don’t need you.”

They've got enough hits and they're still relevant so it's not a terrible pick.
Rihanna, P!nk and Jennifer Lopez all could do it too. I hope we get Cardi.

Makes sense, they're still huge after so many years, but it feels weird to just imagine them actually performing on SuperBowl

What is supposed to be controversial about Beyonce & Lady Gaga performing?

What is supposed to be controversial about Beyonce & Lady Gaga performing? Beyonce - black panther/black lives matter Gaga - maybe religious or political overtones? But that never happened.

And it has been since at least 2013. Queen Levine keeps winning and the haters stay out of shape.

In terms of current acts, the selection makes sense. They've been pumping out hits for over 15 years now. My only issue with them is as performers, I don't find them dynamic enough to pull off an entertaining show. But this is the Superbowl after all, I'm sure no lighting rig, firework, pyrotechnic, dancer or piece of confetti will be spared to give it some punch.
It's a reasonable choice, but also kind of a blah one.

Predictable but damn can we get some seasoning. Oh you know the rotating wheel of paid melanin that's kept them up for the current campaign will make an appearance and Blake Shelton.

They should have just had Cardi perform and let Maroon 5 been guest acts. Her songs are more popular anyway.

Not surprised at all by this. It was only a matter of time. Was half-hoping it’d be Rihanna this year, since she’s been so MIA in music lately and it’d be a huge surprise to have her return with this platform, but this pick makes sense, too. Not particularly exciting or thrilling, but understandable.

The amount of features on their latest singles have me hopeful we’ll see a guest rapper. Could see them bringing in Cardi or Kendrick. Bringing in Christina for MLJ would be cool too.

I guess this means my theory that they'd do it on a year NBC was broadcasting the show doesn't matter (it's on CBS in 2019; NBC had it this year and I was thinking then that either they or Carrie Underwood would get it as a result).
Anyway, most of the songs they'll likely perform are among their more bland, but they've still got a few jams (I listened to Hands All Over this week for the first time in a while, and it holds up surprisingly well), so I'm not too disappointed. P!nk, Rihanna, Carrie, or Kelly soon, though, please!

Not a bad choice as they def have enough catchy songs that would work well as sing alongs for the SB. I’d imagine a set list including: “This Love” “Moves Like Jagger” “Sugar” Maybe “One More Night” or “What Lovers Do” and/or “Girls Like You” I can see there being a cover song, too.

This is honestly one of the best choices they could've gone with. Most people enjoy of and know at least some songs from their multitude of hits, their music is appealable to young and old. I'm sure it'll be a great halftime show.
Now, let's just hope Carrie gets her turn before the end of the century.

I hope it's heavily skewed towards their older hits rather than their latest, but we all know it will be a vanilla extravaganza of Don't Wanna Know, Sugar, Maps, Girls Like You, Cold... ugh.
In theory, they could get Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Kendrick Lamar, and Cardi B all as guests and we'd really have a show as long as Cardi and Kendrick don't have to perform their Maroon 5 tracks, but I doubt that's gonna happen.
Please let there be at least one Songs About Jane track on their setlist. Preferably Harder to Breathe.
