NEW RELEASES: A FRESH CHART BATTLE?

Data is notably scarce at present, but depending which way the winds blow we may witness a chart battle between Warner Bros. crooner Josh Groban and RCA's new-school lad band Brockhampton.

A variety of factors could shift the balance between now and when our chart closes on Friday, so stay tuned.

On Monday, look for numbers on these and other new releases, including the intimate concert set from Prince, Machine Gun Kelly, Slash, Lupe Fiasco and Young Dolph.

Groban has a ticket bundle and his last album did 180k three years ago. It's a bigger drop than I expected, but certainly not disastrous, and it'll be his sixth top 2 album.

If I checked correctly and the predicted numbers bear out, the #1 album would be the first one with less than 100k SPS since NF's Perception on the BB 200 dated October 28 last year.

i can't even imagine someone telling me this time last year that in 2018 A$AP Rocky would fail to get 80k while Brockhampton would almost reach 100k. Insane stuff rn. Praying they can get the number 1, although from what I've heard Groban is a fantastic artist as well.

^Somehow their album managed over 20k in SPS from streaming, which proved to give it the edge for #1. I see 3 of its songs made the bottom half of the Spotify weekly chart. By comparison, Josh Groban's album managed just over 1k in SPS from streaming.

A SQUEAKER OF A CHART STORY

Following a heated race to the top, Question Everything/RCA’s Brockhampton crosses the finish line with a #1 bow on the Top 50 Chart, moving 106k with Iridescence. Both Brockhampton and Reprise’s Josh Groban, whose Bridges lands at #2 with nearly 97k, were boosted by large D2C and ticket bundle numbers.

Meanwhile, Prince’s Piano & A Microphone 1983 (Warner Bros.) debuts at #8 with 35k. As for the remaining key bows, Paper Route/EMPIRE’s Young Dolph appears at #13.

The most noteworthy move is made by Centricity’s Lauren Daigle, whose Look Up Child jumps #20-14, thanks in part to impassioned social media support from none other than Selena Gomez. Hallelujah!

When it comes to marketshare, UMG is #1 with 46%, WMG follows with 28% and SME is #3 with 19%, while the indies claim 7%.

Streeting this week are sets by Young Money’s Lil Wayne, Warner Bros.’ Cher, Def Jam’s Logic and Bread Winners Association’s Kevin Gates. And then, of course, there’s Kanye. At press time, the G.O.O.D./Def Jam star is still expected to drop YANDHI on Saturday night (9/29). We just hope Gandhi explores a rap career by responding with GANYE.
