Lead single from her 15th studio album, Caution, out November 16th. Produced by DJ Mustard.
You’re Mine and Infinity barely cracked the top-20 at Urban AC so this one should easily surpass those peaks.

She hasn't had a Top 10 at Urban AC since "Touch My Body". A part of me thinks this will peak in the teens at best, and a part of me thinks she may be one of those artists that has a career rebirth at the format once they stop chasing mainstream hits.

I fucking love this. She is really giving me the feels with this. Her vocals have lots of vulnerability on here.

Who in their right mind thought that this was lead single material?

^Exactly. I so wanna know what they are thinking. GTFO was interesting at least, this isn't even bonus track material let alone a first single. Ugh.

It almost seems like they got really confused about Mariah's audience demographics so they picked the weakest, middle ground sounding track as a compromise. Either that or they completely don't understand today's music market yet they want to compete in it. All I hear is Bye Bye in a very similar long verse storytelling style of The Art of Letting Go. Neither of which had any particularly strong replay value.

Certainly explains why there were very few comments made after the listening party.

It's cute, but it doesn't really blow me away. GTFO was much more instant than this.

This song has zero creativity, it´s this horrible R&B ballad we have heard billion times and it belongs in the past and why is she even 10 % relevant, she has overcome billion times her potential already. I understand that she is using the same formula as WBT but even that song was way overrated. And she needs to stop taking advice from herself.

They should’ve just pushed GTFO.

They should’ve just pushed GTFO. Exactly, that would have been a much smarter move. Remix it, add a rapper, release a radio friendly version and... it's a hit lol.

I’ll be the first to say I prefer this over GTFO.

Umm, I love this! It’s was pretty instant for me on first listen. Second listen was even better. I think she sounds just fine. And I like the “Breakdown” mention. Can’t wait for the video!

Copied from the other threads but...
Was smiling throughout and damn near in tears at the end. Legit beautiful. Hook is simple. Lyrics are kinda immature but also have that wistful, furtive love vibe Mariah often goes for. Damn, I fux wit With You

I’ll be even more surprised now if this is a significant Urban AC hit. This has no business even being on one of her albums. The “Bye Bye” and “The Art of Letting Go” comparisons are spot on.

Not hearing TAOLG in this AT ALL. I remember the melody of this instantly and it is lodged in my brain even more on a second listen. The verses tell a story but are still simple and don't ramble. Also, she sounds beautiful. Love the lower register here. My ONLY gripe is the production is a little TOO lowkey, but I actually see people latching on to this.
Anyway, looks like Mariah's gonna have another album with a parental advisory tag!

This is nice and I like it, but let’s keep it real here this could have been an album track on any one of her last 3 (non-xmas) albums.
GTFO should have been pushed as the single imo.

GTFO without the F bomb loses its sting considerably, so I'm glad it wasn't pushed as a single. This is perfect for the fall season and strolling through the leaves with your boo. If you're lonely and single and bitter, I guess just sit and stare out the window and dream about what could have been. I really dig the Breakdown reference.

This is very E=MC2, the "Bye Bye" comparisons are accurate. Not getting the TAOLG references though, that song was a meandering unmelodic mess. This has a pretty strong melody.
I wish her vocals were stronger and the production could use some beefing up, but it's a nice little low-key moment.

I like it but I feel it should have been 15 to 20 seconds longer because she was finally serving vocals at the very end. I remember feeling that way when I first heard ISIL.

Typical Mariah in its execution, but lyrically this is one of her best songs in a long time as far as storytelling goes. The last time she attempted this kind of writing was "Love Story" and it wasn't exactly a great results because it felt juvenile and detached from her.
Here she is telling her own story and she does it in a way that only Mariah Carey can tackle.
However, I don't see why the production couldn't have been better. Why couldn't it elevate this song instead of making it same old, same old? That's my only criticism. And the abrupt ending.

This is nice, if nonessential and too low-key for a single, let alone lead single. It's very Mariah though, especially at the end. And some solid melody throughout.
Like GTFO, it does feel like an interlude extended into a full-length song to me.

I thought I was going to get scalped by starting out my post by saying this reminds me of "Bye Bye" in some ways. I like it. Yes I was hoping for a banger but this has a nice melody and I don't think it sounds like bonus track material at all. "Ooh shots are ready" etc etc line (which is probably the chorus) is catchy enough. I like this a lot more than "GTFO" and it's giving me that Mariah ballad feel I need. Yes it's similar to some of her work from 05 on but it doesn't bother me. Go MiMi!!! Welcome back!

"Ooh shots are ready" etc etc line (which is probably the chorus) “Probably the chorus” lol that’s one of my major issues with the song. It’s like she’s telling this story in the verses and doesn’t even bother with the hook. What I THINK is supposed to be the hook would sound better as the verse melody. The non-existent hook following the melodically weak verses adds to the meandering feel of the song. The song is not “bad,” but she’s capable of doing a song like this in her sleep.
